  1. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...81/default.aspx Still on the AFL site under Mcphee's picture look closely
  2. Surely from what I've seen most would rank Macdonald ahead of Raines surely. I think Vossy might have pulled the trigger too early.
  3. Being unable to screen a player medically before there is a draft is of concern to me If what I've heard is correct regarding Ball refusing access to clubs. You should have a right to access the product if it's on the open market.
  4. Since Glenn McFarlane had a go at doing a team of the decade I’d like to see demonlanders ideas on an MFC team of the decade. Team must be selected from players that played for MFC as of January 1st 2000 till now. Here’s my backline with some details this has taken a while so I’ll try and get the rest done and posted as soon as I’m able. Backline: Matthew Whelan Games: 150 Goals: 15 Aggressive, committed, tenacious tackler and a great role model for indigenous players. Never shirked a contest, his bumps and tackles are the stuff of legend. Best First Year player 2000 and nominated in the Rising star award in 2000. Alistair Nicholson Games: 110 Goals: 3 Consistent, underrated and much maligned full back who regularly took on the big men and was rarely beaten one on one. Nathan D. Brown Games:146 Goals: 36 Running half back, back pocket defender. Clean skills and adopted the one glove policy a steal at pick 66 in the ‘97’ draft. Career highlights include Runner up BF to Jeff White in 2004, Fourth BF 2002, Best Clubman 2005 Half Back Line: Clint Bizzell Games: 163 Goals: 79 Recruited from Geelong where he played predominantly as a forward. Became a reliable defender in the side with excellent run of half back and play making ability. Great over head and on the ground unfortunately injury limited opportunity and his career. Career highlights include QAFL team of the Century member, Fourth BF 2003, International Rules Player 2003, 2006 Sandringham Premiership. Adem Yze Games: 271 Goals: 234 226 Consecutive games, one of the most precise disposers of the ball by foot ever. Ability to do the freakish on a whim, an absolutely class player who led the league in kicks 2001, 2002 and 2004. Career highlights include: Best First Year player 1995, Nominee Rising star, 2nd Best and Fairest 1998, 3rd BF 2000, 2004, Vic representative 2000, BF 2001, All Australian 2002, Equal 3rd Brownlow 2002, International Rules player 2002. Paul Wheatley Games: 135 Goals: 34 One of the longest most accurate kicks in the game touted as the super goal specialist for which he holds the record in the NAB Cup. Also a fantastic kick in specialist was a play making key defender able to play on tall or mid forwards. Now retired is likely to apply his trade in the NFL much like Darren Bennett. A SPECIAL MENTION TO ALL THE GUYS WHO CONTRIBUTED TO MFC ON WIKIPEDIA AND DEMON WIKI WHERE I SOURCED A LOT OF PLAYERS INFORMATION THANKS FOR THE HARD WORK Thanks for being patient here's the rest of the side: Centre: Shane Woewodin Games: 200 Goals: 94 While he was only with us up until the end 2002. Few can deny the class, consistency and game turning ability Woewodin showed in his 2000 season for the mfc. Suffered brownlow blues in 2001 but did bounce back in 2002, then ensued his trade to the scum. Career highlights include 2000 Brownlow medal beating current midfield coach Scott West. B&F 2000, International Rules Representative 2000 and Rising Star Nominee 1997. There is a Taj Woewodin possible future Father son?? Cameron Bruce Games: 203* Goals: 204* Mature aged recruit at 20 years of age. Sublime and silky skilled used in attacking role across half back and as a well adept midfielder who has been able to attack as well as tag the elite players and rarely be beaten. Extremely adaptable, dependable and consistent. Career highlights include 2008 B&F, Rising star nominee 2000, Selected in 150 Heroes Celebration and International rules player 2002 and 2004 Travis Johnstone Games: 194* Goals: 134* No 1 selection in 1997 draft, Frequently criticised for not living up to the status. Has fantastic ability to spot up a target considered a specialist in kicking the footy has been criticised for not winning enough contested footy. Career highlights include 2002 fourth in Brownlow 2005 B&F lead AFL in kicks 2005. Ruck: Jeff White Games: 268 Goals: 113 One of the most durable athletic high leaping ruckmen MFC has had. Just as an aside White played for the Stingrays and was drafted at no 1 in 1994 Johnstone was drafted at 1 in 97 and it looks as though Scully will be stingrays 3rd No 1 pick in the draft. I believe created or was a significant contributor to the mobile ruckmen we see today. Centre square changes limited his effectiveness most likely made cause he was dominant in hit outs ranking in the top 5 for 9 years from 1999. James McDonald Games: 235* Goals: 51* Hard In and under midfielder current captain fantastic leader. Performs consistently and is a great tagger. One of the best and consistent tacklers in the current game. Career Highlights include 2006, 2007 B&F 2006 All Australian. Joint captain 2008 and in his own right 2009. Brad Green Games: 186* Goals: 227* Fantastically flexible player able to play up forward as a KP or through the midfield. Very reliable set shot for goal and great contested mark for his size. International Rules representative 2004 Half Forward Line: Russel Robertson Games: 228 Goals:428 Spectacular mark played well above his size a star for the MFC. 2003 B&F, Leading Goalkicker 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009. International Rules player 2005 Aaron Davey Games: 117 Goals: 139 Revolutionised the forward flanker role his explosive speed and tackling pressure has seen many sides adopt the same role Aaron created. His sublime kicking skills and improved endurance has seen him adopt a sweeper/midfield role. Career Highlights rising star runner up 2004, AFLPA 2004 Best first year player, international rules rep 2005, 2006, indigenous all star 2007, 2009 B&f 2009 Brad Miller Games: 126* Goals: 79* Contentious yes, Miller in my opinion has had more influence and played in more good games during the 2000’s than Schwarz who managed only 59 games in 2000’s. 2008 Leading goal kicker. Full Forward Line Jeff Farmer Games: 249 Goals:483 I was nearly going to go with Bate still might but when i reviewed Farmer’s 2000 season I had to include him. Bags of 8 in a prelim, 8 against freo, 7 against hawthorn, 9 against Collingwood and 7 against West Coast saw Farmer kick 109 Goals in 37 games in the 2000’s. David Neitz Games: 306 Goals: 631 One of the greatest captains of MFC. Was an elite full forward in his prime kicked 82 goals in 2002. Not much needs to be said about the best player we have had in the 2000’s Matthew Bate Games: 68 Goals: 67 Morrish Medal winner 2004, 3rd B &F 2007. Good contested mark great set shot gives rangas everywhere hope. Bench: Nathan Jones, Cale Morton, Jarred Rivers, Colin Sylvia
  5. Before I'd heard it I couldn't believe Mclean was leaving he seemed to be committed to red and blue. I was shocked I still don't really know why he wanted to leave. He'd surely seen out the worst of what we were going through as a club. Record debt [censored] facilities and poor on field performance. So he decided to jump to carlton where he has some family history. We got pick 11 I think it was the best deal completed in draft week little fuss, little mud slinging Brock handled himself well in the media so did the club. We couldn't of done any better and I don't think anyone else in competition would of offered us anything close to what we got for Mclean. I've moved on from Mclean look forward to the future can't wait to read and sing the praise of who we draft at 11
  6. Disappointed Ball wouldn't at least hear what MFC has to offer seems conceited, narrow minded and disrespectful considering in good faith we announced publicly he was an option for us. Could of always said no thanks. I'm of the opinion that if you don't want to play for the team you shouldn't be picked. This may limit opportunities but i think a team is more successful when it moves in the same direction rather than Ball type Mercenaries in the side for self gain. Brisbane, Geelong and Western Bulldogs are examples of quality players sacrificing for team success rather than lyning their hip pockets. Some say Ball is professional enough to play well for whatever team selects him however this isn't reflected in his attitude towards us so far. Ball has some abilities we sorely lack: experience, hard in and under, contested posession winner. However medically he is a high risk, He was unwilling to meet St.Kilda's terms and had a falling out he is now a Mercenary looking for the most money, years and the fastest track to a premiership/pay dirt where he will have to put in the least amount of work to gain it. Attitude is as important as ability and clearly Ball's attitude towards us is one of apathy and aloofness I just as much as anyone want a premiership but I believe it must be built on integrity, commitment and loyalty. Ball has appeared to lack these qualities since he decided St.Kilda's expectations where beyond what he considered reasonable. If he wanted a tilt at a premiership he should of stayed where he was. As i've said earlier with Ball it was PSD or GTFO end of question.
  7. MFC don't need any KPF's Give me Dunstall and Brereton - 5 premierships Give me Brown and Lynch - 3 premierships Give me Ablett and Brownless - Over 1400 goals between them Give me Hall and O'Loughlin- Premiership Even Lynch and Hansen who are average won a premiership Kosi, Riewoldt Brown, Fev Neitz, Schwarz Lyon, Neitz Jakovich, Bennett The teams with the 20-30 quality/excellent KPF's kick the goals win the games and win premierships MFC wants premierships they'll take the best player at the best pick according to need once we have fulfilled the obligation to an underperforming midfield KPF's are absolutely necessary. It's no good having a star midfield if there's no one to kick it too. In a side there are 5-7 players who play key position out of a side of 22 that's between 22-31% of a team The GC because they are building a side from the bottom up currently have 12 players out of 23 or 52% of their side is listed above 190cm which is approx the shortest you'd need to be to play KP. Of the 2008 draft the top 10 50% were KPP of the 2007 the top 10 drafted 60% were above 190cm Of the 2006 the top 10 drafted 50% were above 190cm If you don't think 11 and 18 shouldn't be a priority for KPP/tall above 190cm you're off your rocker.
  8. Liam Patrick and Troy Taylor are the only other considerations/Likely players I'd consider at 34 and 50. With regard to Newton/Meeson I wouldn't be surprised if MFC was obliged to pay all/part of their contracts in the first year with another club.
  9. Now that so far as I can tell we have finalised our list ahead of the upcoming draft and it being 2 weeks away I thought it poignant to look at who i think MFC is going to draft and why. Prioty Pick 1 -Tom Scully Elite contested posession player Massive amount of endurance Wins his own ball and is a game breaker Creates space with the best handball at this years draft Mature mindset potential leader at any club Will have to work on gaining weight at 182cm and 74kg looking at 6-10kgs of muscle devlopment development over 2-3 years Others Considered: There has been speculation Trengove has surpassed Scully and will be taken at 1 While it creates interesting side play I expect they will both be Melbourne players. However Scully has been identified as a No1 pick for longer and I wouldn't be surprised If he has already been assured he is number 1. Pick 2 -Jack Trengove Best midfield mark in the draft Poise and awareness are tademarks Penetrating kick Impressive on both sides of his body Shown most development over the year of all draftees No go home factor - Lived on Border of SA/Vic Ready for round 1 close to being a sure thing for Rising Star Others Considered: Dustin Martin 3rd best mid, Anthony Morabito Tall Mid with most X factor/upside 4th best, John Butcher best KPF. MFC will probably place higher priority in creating an elite midfield in the next 2-3 years because Butcher has too many unknowns. Butcher's consitency, kicking and perceived attitude has seen him slide in people's/media's predictions on the draft. HOWEVER, i will not be surprised if recruiting department pick Butcher at 2 for a KPF ahead of Trengove due to need and further comprimised drafts limiting access. Thorp seems to be MFC potential insurance policy if we pick Trengove instead of a KPF. Pick 11 - Daniel Talia Versatile Great Contested Mark Positions Himself to advantage Agressive and Great Leg speed High level of endurance Hamstring Tendonitis potentially problematic Others Considered: It's time to look to KPP if MFC take to mids first up. Butcher will go to NM, Syd or Port he wont be there at 11. Jake Carlisle, Aaron Black, Matthew Panos, Levi Casboult, and Ben Griffiths is how I rank the rest of the KPF's Pick 18 - Jake Carlisle Versatile Fantastic Contested mark Great Kick Posession Winning Reads the play exceptionally well Potential Mobile Ruckmen Repotedly impressed with Bailey/MFC Back Problems Others Considered: Port depending what happens ahead of them will take Butcher or Panos. Bulldogs at 15 Potential suitors to Carlisle as well as Geelong and Sydney. Be an excellent catch if he slips through. If Carlisle is gone I expect Griffiths to be available. Pick 34 - Max Gawn Massive 206cm 97kgs Strong Mark Relatively mobile Needs development Old Sandy Stomping ground Others Cosidered: From this point on it's needs based, best available speculation Pick 50 - Dylan Grimes Impressive at draft camp Speed and Agility top 15% tested Reads the play well Brothers united Great Closing speed Excellently defensive skills Others Considered: Must take at 50 if still available PSD 1 Mitch Thorp Maintains youth policy Massive potential and thats all he has so far KPF Insurance Pick 6 in 2006 Injury riddled Delisted Rumoured attitude problems Foot problems MFC has poor history with feet See Garland Jamar Meesen(did he have foot problems??? I may be wrong) Others Considered: Joel Mcdonald not much else impresses Rookie Draft Michael Newton John Meesen Melbourne will honour it promise they will be overlooked by GCF But I have heard Hawthorn Maybe interested in Meesen MFC Should not draft Ball in ND it was PSD or GTFO we don't want players who don't want to be invested in the MFC Bailey has shown his no nonsense approach when confronted with this situation. Ball's Lack of interest reflects exactly that. Port/Bris/Syd have a new recruit he won't be at the filth
  10. Really rates where these guys are at currently if they thought MFC was a free and easy ride they now know just how hard they're going to have to work to get a shot. Hoping they can both lift and show some of their potential in consitent game time.
  11. Barry made a lot of emphasise on how valuable he rates tall timber and versatility could there be potential curve ball in the ND might Butcher have slipped in everyone else's mind except Barry's and be taken at 2 Might he look to Talia Carlisle or Vardy at 11, 18 and 34 might he think midfielders are a dime a dozen and potentially one of Scully or Trengove miss out food for thought don't count them chickens
  12. Don't want Ball, don't need Ball, not gonna make a play for Ball, Goodbye Ball. Moving on to the draftees wanting to play for us next season. Ball will be distant memory when we have 2 superstars in Trengove and Scully one of which will next years Rising Star Sorry Ball but it was PSD or GTFO
  13. Apparently.............. We Are Changing Our Name TOOOOO................ THE PEOPLE'S FRONT OF JUDEA
  14. Scully has the best hands I've ever seen he reads ruck contests like he's psychic fires 30m handpasses like rockets. Nickname: THE EXTRACTOR Trengove oozes class he appears to have time in traffic and is effortless and evassive great mark for his height Nickname: THE STENCIL
  15. I'd rookie him see if he can get up and play more than half a dozen games and delist if he doesn't go any good and stuffs his last chance. So highly rated early on there must be a way to unlock the talent that everyone saw. Then again history is littered with coulda shoulda woulda.
  16. There is no possible way ever that the MFC should waste time on this fool if he chooses anything else then to nominate for the PSD and if he thinks his chances are better via the ND good luck playing in purple. If he thinks he can get to the Magpies there's no way. Like some have said he's good but he isn't a game breaker. PSD or GTFO
  17. Wouldn't take Bradshaw if he paid to come to MFC he is well and trully passed his prime and those hamstrings will last half the distance of G. Lyon's. Should of had another year at Brisbane then retired he's gone a bit money hungry and if sydney are dumb enough to pay him they can have him.
  18. Impressive fixture for Melbourne a little disappointing we don't get free to air coverage till week 6 But I'm happy I can go to the G and see the dees 8 games in a row this year. It's the best we could have hoped for let's see the boys do us proud. How awesome would it be if we could start by beating the Hawks then Magpies. I can't wait to get to the footy next year it's gonna be great.
  19. Does any one know if the speeches will be made available either by podcast or video on the clubs website it would be great to hear what was said by the executive and players? It sounds like a pretty inspiration night was had and the 2mins I've seen of Jim just isn't enough. Ooops my mistake looks as though the club has posted some video on the website already.
  20. I have no idea which way Luke Ball will go the head says saints the heart hopes its MFC. All I know is that MFC would be better for having him as long as we don't pay him at sacred cow rates cause he isn't currently worth that AND That there is absolutely no way ever MFC should draft him in the national draft we need to have some credibility. The PSD is the only way to achieve this it shows he's keen to come to the MFC, the draft says he's dragged his heels hoping for something else. If he announced he wanted to come to us it would be a massive coup this fact makes me think it's not going to happen. I don't see us being able to land the big fish at the bottom of the j curve
  21. Well done Aaron worked really hard in the pre-season and earnt his just reward. Such a great role model for the club and players to have around. An inspiration for many look forward to watching his silky skills throughout the next years to come Well done also to Moloney, Bruce, Bate and co all had consistently good years and deserve their placings in the B&F. Hopefully they maintain and Improve upon their great year. Time to look forward to the future and get this rebuild on the way lets start celebrating some wins and singing the song with gusto.
  22. Have found some links to pictures of the boys back at training http://images.slatterymedia.com/photograph...mp;sub_code=all and http://images.slatterymedia.com/photogalle...urne%20Training enjoy.
  23. Schwab seems to make sense with his decisions he understands football and is a great CEO can't wait to see the plans come to fruition and Melbourne be returned to strong rightful place. I feel we're on the up so now lets win some games so I can sing the song loud and proud!
  24. ^ If this is true then this is precisely the problem that MFC players have on the field they need to harden the fcuk UP!! Travel one hour to training please i know people who fly in and out of melbourne every day for work and don't [censored] like little babies about it. Casey is the largest growth corridor in Melb to have a firm base out there together with the community programs at grass roots level will mean melbourne will dominate this area of the city.
  25. From what I've heard Vex News is not a reputable news website
