  1. So for half the game, we have 2 tall forwards on at once? I hope that for at least half the game, the ball is in our forward half to take advantage of this. Goody could consider playing both Watts and Weed as high forwards, similar to the old Pagan's Paddock. Henderson needs a GPS when he leaves a 50 arc, will make Mackie more accountable, and (hopefully) less likely to zone off his man, will strangle up Tuohy, and then let the likes of Jeffy, Hannan, ANB and (potentially) Kent run in to an open 50.
  2. They (the 3) spent an extra 20% on the ground in the first game when we had the extra tall playing. Adding that 20% just throws out Fifty-5's model. I said in a post earlier this week that it'll be interesting to see how selection plays out this week. I personally don't think we are desperate for an extra tall to replace Hogan, and clearly some others do (to the point where they are trying to predict game time %). I won't slit my wrists if Goody doesn't agree with me. I just hope we win.
  3. But the point is, if we don't play another tall, then Watts, Gawn and Weed will likely spend more time on the ground. Look at the Saints game, Gawn was on 84%, Watts 80% and Weed 86% - that's a combined 20% more game time than what they did last week.
  4. No, I won't give you an alternative model. I'm just picking the flaws in yours, as you have based the % game played on the previous week when we had an extra tall to use. If we don't replace Hogan for another tall, then your "model" is worthless. This week, we don't necessarily need an extra tall. Hannan is a renowned leaper - maybe he's the one that can sacrifice getting the ball, by ensuring he launches at contests to bring the ball down to our other small forwards.
  5. Don't think they could adjust and have Gawn rest forward, rather than be off the ground? The figures you have showed are also going to be different this week as Hogan won't be there, so the time on ground % for all of Gawn, Watts and Weed will change. So, while I appreciate you spent a bit of time coming up with your little figures, it is more likely that they are totally irrelevant for this week.
  6. Even Will Hunting couldn't work out your mathematical equation in that post, 55. Point is, if we don't bomb it long, we are a chance. If we do bomb it long, Watts and/or Weed have to force a contest. If they don't, we're screwed.
  7. The advantage of Hogan not playing in a game like this is it means we naturally lower our eyes going inside 50. If we don't, and continually bomb it in, Geelong will smash us. They will have a record amount of intercept marks, and will move it from back to forward far too quick for our zone defence. Watts and Weed will be judged this week on the impact they make at every contest they get to. Quite simply they must make sure they make EVERY contest in the forward 50. If they can't get to a contest, it means either they aren't working hard enough, or the delivery is poor. Our small to medium forwards will be far too quick and smart for Geelong, that's part of the reason why I think ANB and Hannan will remain in the side. We can win this, we just need to play smart.
  8. They will bring Smith back in to try and limit Gawn's influence. I rate Smith as a ruck, I'm not suggesting he will beat Gawn, but he will make a contest. You can guarantee that they won't do the "no ruck" thing like they did last week, mainly because Gawn's ruck work unopposed is far, far superior to anyone in the league. Smith will create a contest that will make it harder for Max to totally dominate, reducing the amount of first ball use our mids will get. For those calling for Viney to take Danger, just rewind to the last game last year. Danger SMASHED Viney. Viney MUST go to Selwood for us to have any chance. Simples.
  9. A lot of talk on here of ANB getting dropped. He was one of a handful named in Goody's press conference for his performance in the last quarter. It's pretty clear that he, and a couple of others ,are playing a specific role around that half forward line, and when he plays it, we are a better team for it (as can be seen in the last quarter against Carlton). For the first 3 quarters, there were a number of players that were down. ANB was one of the ones that stood up when it counted, and I'm sure that will be part of the reason why Goody won't have him dropped. Also worth not in he laid 5 tackles for the game, so he'll be asked to continue that half forward pressure, as this will translate in to greater opportunities for not only himself, but for those around him.
  10. Vince for Lewis is a given. I'm intrigued as to who the Hogan replacement will be. Do we go tall-for-tall, which presumably would be Ped or Spencer. Or, does Goody put the pressure on Watts and Weed by making them the tall targets, then bringing in Kent to add more speed in the forward line. Thinking about it, I would replace Hogan with Kent (if he's 100% ready to go). Either way, I just plead to Goody to have Viney tag Selwood. JV is playing solid without starring. If he can keep Selwood to less than 20, and get as many himself, we will go a long way to winning this game.
  11. How he is not in the Demonland banner I do not know. Better than anyone up there, including Daisy. Has got to the stage where I just watch him, knowing that the rest of the game will take care of itself. It''s strange, I wouldn't have his number on my back, but I think he will be one of the greats of the MFC. Perhaps I should put his number on my back?
  12. Might as well! Just as big a disgrace as some of the other "records" on that thread!
  13. Relax, I'm not going, so we will win. Went to 4 games last year, Essendon, St Kilda, Carlton and Geelong. Haven't seen us win live since 2011. Hopefully I can get that monkey off my back at some stage in 2017, but it won't be this weekend as I have other commitments.
  14. I'm not getting ahead of myself, but I had a feeling on Saturday night that I haven't experienced before. It wasn't arrogance, nor cockiness. It took me hours to realise it was that feeling was. It was confidence. The feeling you feel when you beat a team that you should. It's a feeling that should be growing within this playing group, and is the feeling I have going in to this week (as opposed to a combination of fear and arrogance that I displayed going in to certain games last year).
  15. Don't care what anyone says, we are a better team with Jetta in it.
  16. Interested to know if you think the club are doing ANYTHING right? Have a look at your posting history, you have; - Given a whack to the club for using Jones as part of marketing - Given Goodwin a huge whack for not playing Trengove (or just taking him to Perth with no intention of playing him), for the way he introduced the co-captaincy, the way the Watts situation was handled, and for playing Spencer in the JLT (FMD). - Implied that the McCartney article had a hidden agenda of him putting his name out there for potential senior jobs that will no doubt rise this year - Think that the club is disrespecting the club by not telling us the full extent of Hibberd's injury All of that just in the past hour. Cheer up champ. The season is about to begin, and with any luck, it's going to be longer than normal for us.
  17. Happened from the day that journalists were made celebrities. Bring back the days of Scotty Palmer coming on and reporting (mostly) facts, and saving the rumours and innuendo for his Punchlines column in the Sun.
  18. Unless it was from Mark Stevens, I won't believe it. The weasel seems to get MFC information somehow (hopefully from chasing ambulances rather than an inside job).
  19. At least we now know what Jones thought at the time, and where he is currently at. By bringing that out in the open, there will be no "intrigue" if Jones has a poor start to the year. Yes, Goody hasn't coached a game, but he was behind the scenes for the past 12 months, so has had great exposure to all players, and been able to do so without being the main man. He has done a 12 month apprenticeship, which is so much more than what any other coach gets (those that don't go through a succession plan), which has to be of great benefit, especially when big decisions like this are made.
  20. Is that what you really meant when you said this...? If so, I apologise for misinterpreting. I know it's a fan forum, and if we didn't do what I'm about to say then we wouldn't have much to talk about, but given the amount of insight we have with regards to training, training loads, training input, GPS data, etc, etc, that we can form a view of why or why not a player will be selected. Even more so if you don't/didn't attend training. It's why I have no view on the co-captaincy, just as much as I don't really have a view on the Watts situation.
  21. As much evidence as saying that the Hawks' 3 were in a watered down comp, and that the Lions' 3 were because of COLA. We will all believe what we want, but there are 2 things that are certain; 1. Premierships are bloody hard to win 2. I will celebrate any MFC premiership, and will be quite arrogant about it, regardless of what other teams think
  22. Would be interested to know your thoughts if we go and win 3 straight under Goodwin. AFL funded PJ and Roos, 1 of which is still in his post, and the other has his fingerprints all over what is happening at present. I wouldn't give a toss if anyone claimed ours as being "tainted" (as per Little Goffy's comments), and I'm sure as hell that Hawthorn and/or Brisbane supporters care either.
  23. A football memory that will live with me forever was the last time I got to go to a game with my dad before he passed away (like many, my dad is the reason I follow the MFC). The last game was the game vs Sydney at the MCG, Bails was coach. I'm forever grateful of the way Bails had them playing that day - was one of the best games I've been to, and made even more special by it being the last I went to with my dad. As a side note, Moon, today would've been Sean's 53rd Birthday. A great player, but an even better bloke.
  24. I did read it, and it sounded to me that it was basically a full contact drill where two players were launching themselves from different angles to make a contest. I back this up by his comment about the drill here; "Too be honest it looked to be a pretty dangerous drill so I wasn't all the surprised when someone went down." Of course it had to be Watts that was the "someone". Any other player and I guarantee that they wouldn't have been questioned about how easily they got pushed out of the contest, especially implying that the incident would be used as the reason for them to not be selected in round 1.
  25. Gee Akum, you're clutching at straws there. There is a myriad of reasons that a player can come off second best in a marking contest, and I'd imagine (in this case) "being pushed aside" is a long way down that list.
