Have to disagree with you Fifty-5. We have blokes like Vince, Gawn and Watts to be the "face" of the club. They, especially Bernie and Max, would be able to sell ice to eskimos. That's where potential sponsors will see the return for them. It isn't a coincidence that two of the above-named players are in our leadership group too.

Was it a Panasonic Cup match? Feels like it was that long ago! (Nb. This is in no way criticising Jack!)

Would the not be training Tuesday and Thursday this week given we have a game on Saturday?

The amount of uninformed rot on this thread is laughable. Things like; - If Viney starts performing badly in the media, there's a chance it will impact his onfield performance - Jack had a dust-up with an opposition player last year, so it's possible that if he and Jones don't see eye to eye on something, that Jack will start throwing punches - That Viney doesn't "sound" ready, based on an interview on SEN - That Todd Viney has a conflict of interest in this decision, and should step down (I know that was Picket that raised this, so take with a grain of salt) The above is only in the last 2 or so pages! I'll admit, I thought the idea of Viney as a dedicated Vice Captain would've made sense, but the thing that makes more sense than that is that the people who made this decision are in the inner sanctum, are getting paid to do a job, and have more knowledge about how this will go than any of us. And the fact that PJ would've been involved/informed, and in turn given it the green light, means I'm more than happy to watch it unfold. It will either work or it won't. I have no interest in the "I told you so" if it doesn't, but as always, I'm happy to back to club on this one.

I wonder how much input Lewis had in this decision. He has come from an environment where they had a star leader in Mitchell, but always had Hodge lurking/waiting in the background. The decision was made to change captains while Mitchell was still on the list. Perhaps Lewis' contribution was that Viney will undoubtedly be captain soon, so the best way to implement this, while respecting Jones, is to introduce the co-captin model. Just a thought, may be far from accurate!

Reading a bit in to it there, Clint. Take a look at Goodwin's presser, explains a lot, and I'm sure this was how he approached it with NJ. It was unexpected, but that doesn't = poorly handled.

Of course he wouldn't have been expecting it, but it's not like we've forced him in to stepping aside, or premature retirement. I'd trust that Goody approached the situation very delicately, as with the utmost respect the Jones.

Ethan, you have a bit of a Modra-look about you. Are you two related? -
Nick Maxwell and Tom Harley would agree with this part...

Disgraceful decision. Viney is too young and surfs too much for him to be co-captain.

Think back (not too far) to our last H&A game. Do you think starting Brayshaw on Selwood was about winning the game, or more a learning opportunity? Especially given Viney's performance when he last tagged Selwood. Further to that, do you think Viney tagging Dangerfield was about winning the game, or more a learning opportunity? Especially given Vince's performance when he last tagged Dangerfield.

What do I win for Nearest The Pin? Probably f'all, so I'll just crawl back in to my hole.

When I participate in the annual footy tipping competitions, I will always pick with head and not heart. When I do my tips for Round 1 2017, I will be picking St Kilda, and will do so with a great deal of confidence. They just continue to matchup better against us. Does this make them a better side than us? I don't know.

Family Day. Sunday Feb 19 @ Luna Park

Bring back the days when they had it at the Caulfield races! -
We hope ours is. Just like every other club in the AFL. I'm not saying you're wrong, I think we have something very special, but I'm sure most supporters of all clubs still have belief in their list. I have a couple of Richmond and Carlton associates and even they think they can win the flag this year!

This stat is so overstated about St Kilda, especially on this forum. From their Top 11 B&F in 2016, they had; 1 x 22 year old, 2 x 24, 1 x 25, 1 x 26, 1 x 27 and 2 x 28. 3 of their top 11 are over 30. They are relying on their 20-24 year olds to take the next step, just as much as we are relying on ours.
-
That's better, thanks for clarifying! Yep, that could work, although for the top 6 teams, they are basically playing 2 finals series back to back.
-
Don't think it's a brilliant idea at all. We could finish a tight 6th at the end of Round 17, then have our final 5 games against sides above us. The team that finishes Round 17 in 7th, then have their last 5 games against sides 8th-12th. If you want to rectify the scheduling issues, having a floating-style fixture, similar to what the NRL does/did. It's not ideal for a supporter trying to plan games to go to in advance (especially interstate supporters), but atleast scheduling games 6 weeks in advance means that from the middle of the year, prime time games will generally be between 2 better performing sides.
-
The best he did this was without doubt against Dangerfield a couple of years ago. I still scratch my head when I think of Round 23, 2016, when the opening bounce saw Viney go to Danger, and Brayshaw go to Selwood (after Viney smashed Selwood the year before when we beat them). I'm in no doubt that game was a Roos reality check for some players, and will not be convinced otherwise!

The answer to reducing congestion around the ball is...
The Chazz replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have no idea if it will work or not, but I've often thought that at a centre bounce, that no player other than ruck, "ruck rover", rover, centre, are allowed in the centre until AFTER the ball has exited the centre square. Won't help with congestion for general play stoppages, but it would eliminate the amount of repeated ball ups within the centre square after a goal. The above would stuff our set play up of having a HFF running in to the centre from the half back line! -

Daisy, I'm a bit old fashioned with some acronyms. Does CCTV have something to do with Collingwood Television? If so, I just can't get my head around what the 2nd "C" stands for. Can you help me out? -

I'd be more concerned if we aren't!!! -
You ran in to Biffen and Uncle Bitters on their annual footy trip?

I think you will find that Danger was a lot more honest to both Adelaide and Geelong than many other players that have been in his situation. Just because he, or either club, didn't make it public, doesn't mean that he was lying. I was at a function last year where he (Danger) was quite honest about the whole situation, and how he wanted to ensure both clubs were able to work together to get a fair outcome for both, with these discussions starting before the end of the season. He compared his situation to that of Henderson leaving Carlton, and how they never played him for the last 3 weeks because of his honesty.
