  1. Yeah, it's a real weakness in his game, but to be fair to him tonight, he certainly laid a tackle, but the Port player managed to get a rushed disposal away, so it wasn't counted.
  2. How's this for an incredible stat? Our two KPFs did not lay a single tackle. Hogan had doughnuts again, as did Pedersen. Imagine if he had the tackling pressure of Darling. That's where he needs to get better. And will.
  3. What it probably also shows is that Goodwin's game plan still involves disciplined two-way-running defence. Our defenders were terrific for the most part tonight. It's certainly getting easier for them when our midfield and forwards bring the pressure.
  4. Twin Peaks next year!! Next year, mate! Part of the natural development of a younger side. Learning to really bury sides. We'll get there. Yep. A terrific decision maker. His run and decision making is becoming really important. He's not as penetrating with his kicking, but there's a bit of Isaac Smith about him IMO.
  5. One of my favourites. Just gets the job done every week. And he's back to kicking goals. Looking forward to a big 2017 from him. Coniglio started the season on 60-odd games. Viney and Tyson will be starting 2017 on a similar total. Hoping for big things from them both next year, plus natural improvement from Oliver, Petracca and Brayshaw. For the record, Tyson is averaging 25.1 possessions for 2016 at 73% DE for an inside mid. One thing I noticed tonight though was he got a bit of ball on the outside, so I'm sure the coaches are pushing that from him and would be really happy with his progress this year. Really started to add a bit of an outside game. Brayshaw has looked like a star in patches since coming back from injury. He can't run out games yet, but look out for him 2017. Will be a gun. Such a good user and decision maker. I knew he'd kick that one on his left and was surprised when he missed the second one on his left.
  6. Agreed. Our defence was terrific and it helped that we smashed them in stoppage clearances. Also, another stat I'm loving lately that has been down for many years and is so important in modern footy: bounces. We had 13 to Port's 7. Finally, I loved how well coached/planned we were this week. We were very cognisant of the third man up against Max in the first half, so someone would constantly prevent the third man up from Port at most stoppages. Bugg did it a bit. So did Oliver. Well done, coaches.
  7. Exactly. We've talked for so long about taking that next step. When will the tide turn? I'd argue it turned in Round 18. Momentum is building. We really needed that watershed game and got it last week. This week we needed to back up the Hawthorn win and that was our next challenge. Backing up an unexpected win. And tonight we passed that challenge. Also pleasingly, we have our 10 wins now. I predicted 10-12. Let's hope we get our 11th win next week. 2016 has been massive and we're really starting to shed some unwanted monickers. If someone like Fyfe is interested in St Kilda and Hurley is interested in the Bulldogs, surely we're a chance to become a destination club too. And it's been a long time.
  8. Very happy to come away with the 7 goal win, despite thoroughly dominating the scoring shots. That may become costly if we win the next two games, but a lot of water to pass under that bridge. Three wins in a row is great, particularly when you've had to win at Adelaide Oval to make it three on the trot. Meanwhile, Gawn was massive around the ground and a lot of his around the ground stoppage work was terrific. Given the umpire couldn't bounce it higher than a metre, it made life tough for Max in the centre square. Brayshaw, Clarry and Petracca showing their class for much of the first half. While Tyson had another brilliant game and I'd have him second best on ground behind Maxy. Another great game. But what was so pleasing about this game was the younger players were the guys dragging us across the line. Omac, Tmac, Frost and Hunt were all really solid defensively. Vince's leg appears to be better, given his goal from 55m. However, he continues to butcher the ball under little pressure, as does Jones. Fortunately, we got the job done in the first half to put enough distance between us and them. But the final quarter was an impressive finish. We'll win those games by 10-15 goals next year. Looking forward to it.
  9. Just to reiterate. Tom Bugg is a fringer. Such an untidy player.
  10. Harmes is a butcher, following after his captain who's barely hit a target all game. We won't win this unless we significantly improve in this final term. Watts and Hogan have been horrid, as has Vandenberg and Pedersen has done very little except for his mark. Too many guys playing poorly. Come on Max. We need you to stand up here.
  11. If ANB got the deal done for Hibberd I'd take it and run. Can't see ANB making it as a star. Might make B grade, but nothing more on what I've seen at VFL and AFL level so far. Not sure he has enough weapons for the big time. I'd also look at seeing what is available for Salem. Of course, would love to keep him and unless it's a Brad Crouch type (yes, I know, he's re-signed) I wouldn't do the deal, but Salem would have currency, but isn't absolutely vital for our midfield at the moment. Equally, he may become that important Hawthorn-type left-footer on the outside, with an ability to play on the inside. I guess I am just spitballing, but I want to continue to improve our midfield and Salem may not make it back and is injury-prone. Good OP too.
  12. He didn't know how to run the football club that I love and almost killed it, along with his incompotent board. We're all passionate Melbourne people, but doesn't mean we all have to stand for the board. He chose to, so you can't then use 'reluctance' as an excuse to hide behind if you monumentally fail. I'm glad PJ is at the helm and we finally have a stable, competent board that doesn't get all cosy with the players and invites them over for BBQs. They maintain a professional distance.
  13. No, it's a lot worse than my misspelling of a failed past administrator. Is that you Don?
  14. The McClardy reference is cringeworthy for a couple of reasons. And is he going to get some other sources other than failed past administrators? I don't know. If I was editing that piece it'd be a whole lot shorter, to the point that there's barely any. Glad there's more positive press for the club, but what was the fresh angle with this piece?
  15. What are the strong links, Mach? Given his hyphenated surname, his Melbourne-supporting youth is assured.
  16. Thanks to all the admins and moderators who have set up the new board and re-named all the threads.
  17. Bugger. Just as I was coming to terms with not getting Prestia, Crouch is also off the table. There's really very little on offer then. Unless we pull someone out of the hat (ie someone who is contracted elsewhere).
  18. Dangerfield, like Judd and Ablett before him, is wallpapering serious midfield deficiencies at his club. I'd prefer to go after a star in the making who will conceivably cost us less, ie Brad Crouch.
  19. But then they've gotta get experience. That's better than having an experienced list primed for a flag. We just have to make sure we keep our list together.
  20. I like this because it means GWS are weakened. We'll need that in the coming 5-10 years.
  21. That says everything about our poor our club has been and not how good Roos has been. However, he has been terrific since coming in. That record is an inditement on our footy club.
  22. If he's stupid he will. Geelong have an average midfield with two stars in it. Hawthorn will get nowhere unless they start to replace their bookends.
  23. For mine, this shows how much improvement is left in this group once they've played a bit more footy. Mine too. Particularly as that corky happened in the third and he was still limping around after the game, but it didn't stop him getting involved in the latter half of the second half.
