That'd be shooting yourself in the foot. ANB brings pressure. Spargo brings ball use. Sparrow brings back up defensive mid rotation. I think it's Sparrow that comes out.

I reckon he's back up or needs to compliment Kozzy and someone else. Given we've seen little of Chandler at the highest level, maybe it's him, but I doubt it. I'd have been testing a forwardline of Kozzy, Bedford and Chandler earlier in the season. When Chandler played, I'm not sure Bedford was in the side as well. If you're going to play Max and BB as your tall forwards, you need pressure forwards at ground level if the zone is going to sit deep. Obviously, ANB, Spargo, Sparrow and the likes of Harmes or Trac can bring pressure, but not the same type.

We might if we weren't entirely sure he was staying. ;)

Farewell Brodie Grundy
How good's our jumper? Looks brilliant on anyone.

Are we really questioning the FD on this without the full details? Surely there's a point where they deserve some credit and trust?

Did Richmond have this challenge?
And in 2017, they just made the top 4. Win our next two and we could finish as high as 2nd.

Did Richmond have this challenge?
Their 2017 year was nowhere near as good as our 2021, so our base was higher. And their second year they failed to make the GF. Let's see...

COACHES VOTES: Round 21, 2022
Sorry, anyone that gets 14 clearances surely deserves at least 1 coaches vote, but clearly neither coach rated his game.

I do realise that, yes. And had we kicked straight, 4 regulation shots from 25m out directly front, we win. Can we do things better? Sure, but saying those three guys ran out of steam is just based in fact.

I'd have a Kozzy clone at the top of my list. With our midfield dominance and the two best mids in the game (at least player ranking wise), repeated entries with x factor at ground level circa Richmond 2017, could be near unstoppable, particularly if we tweak our set up behind the ball.

Oliver faded out of the 4th quarter with 14 possessions? Trac had 8, Viney had 10...

My point was he doesn't play like a KPF IMO. He can take a good grab, but not consistently, nor does he have a real presence (again MO). He's a beautiful field kick for a big bloke, but his ground level pressure is average (how many times did we lament his lack of tackles for the MFC - I certainly did).

We're at a fascinating juncture with our forward set up. I wouldn't be against having McStay come in provided the coin wasn't ridiculous, because I think BB and TMac will struggle to get on the park regularly from here on out. You've also got Fritter as the third tall, so how many similar types can you play? It may protect JVR a little longer and also provide good competition for the tall forward spots. The other factor worth thinking about is whether we look to change the way we move the ball forward from slow plays (ie move away from the long kick to the pockets). I think we're playing this as a percentage play, but also due to the personnel we have on our list. If we could recruit another zippy x factor small to compliment Kozzy (ala the Richmond 2017 model of the mosquito fleet at the feet of Riewoldt), I think we could look at going smaller with more chaos, and particularly if Jackson leaves, we may not need to play a resting ruck as such. Though Weideman probably gets a go there as the second tall. Then you have Kozzy, the other x factor small (with Bedford and Chandler, if they stick around, as back ups), plus Fritsch, a resting Trac and Max, Spargo up the ground, either on a wing (he's probably too small to make the wing his own) or at high half forward with ANB on the same wing. JJ may need to find a new position or roll through the midfield. I think you could almost just play one tall, whether that be BB, McStay or TMac. My feeling on TMac though is he might change your set up to two talls as his endurance could afford this. I just don't think we can rely on his body. But maybe it's a similar thing with JVR. He could enable us to play two talls. I do worry about the forward pressure angle though. If you look at what someone like Stengle has added at Geelong, if you could imagine someone like that to partner with Kozzy, I think that would be ideal. Maybe I'm arguing that another x factor small is more important than another KPF (unless it was a Larkey, King etc gun)? :P

The thing about Jesse, and it was discussed on here the year we traded him, is he's not a traditional KPF. He's closer to a third tall or an oversized flanker. He can take a good mark (see against Rance), but we had questions on his ability to be the King, Larkey etc in 2018. I know we need options and he'd likely be cheap, but I think we need better marking options.

You reckon? The pressure would have been non existent and the ball pinged back the other way. 👌

Play a higher zone off the kick out and lay more forward 50 tackles. 😉

Demons will win the flag in 2022.
Agree, on the same day we miss a bunch of sodas.

POSTGAME: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
The other thing about the night was Cox coming off midway through the second or third quarter and giving it to the MFC supporters who were booing him off. Complete arrogance. I want to play them in finals.

POSTGAME: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
Just a reminder, Oliver's game consisted of 14 clearances and 8 tackles, with 24 contested possessions from 42. What's the record for clearances? The bloke is an A+++er.

In Season - Loading/Periodisation: Put your conjecture here.
As someone who goes every week, I stopped begrudging fair weather MFC supporters during the Neeld years. When you have 57 years of pain, it'll take more than one flag to build your supporter base up again. It takes consistent deep finals pushes and multiple flags. Look at Hawthorn. A fair weather supporter base, but they all come back when they become good again, because it's never a decade on the bottom. Carlton have the history of 16 flags, so that's why their supporters are coming back. It's also only been 27 years for them.

I think there's a bit of truth to both mate. When Collingwood get an inside 50 or move the ball quickly through the corridor that must increase the psychological pressure on defenders in 1v1 situations. It wasn't a big factor though. I just didn't like Trac's comment. It's a cop out.
