I'm no Melksham fan, but I'd have him in my side ahead of Chandler every day of the week. Chandler red hot? Missed some very easy opportunities against witches hats on Thursday.

I'm surprised anyone would want Mitch back. He's 27 and still just as inconsistent as his first season. At what point do people think he'll gain consistency within game, if he hasn't by that age?
-
I disagree with that analysis. The Bulldogs stopped running and working hard. It was very apparent that their workrate dropped significantly after half time. The handball game does not work without run and spread.

Neoliberalism: The Economy, Banking & Asset Markets

The Germans love the free market, as do the Americans. The Japanese are smarter. They have the old mixed economy. -
Neoliberalism: The Economy, Banking & Asset Markets

The borrowing happens after the spending has created reserves. And it isn't really borrowing. Since the currency is no longer fixed, the central bank has no need to defend its exchange rate by issuing debt/bonds. Since 1983 and the floating of the dollar, Treasury has chosen to issue bonds (via the AOFM since 2002ish) after the spending has occurred. The banks then buy the bonds with these reserves. If they didn't the interest rate would fall to the floor. This bond issuance is an asset swap. Non interest bearing reserves (or at least as of November 2020) for interest bearing bonds. The Gov doesn't need the taxes. It spends via annual and special appropriations, which are passed through parliament, via Treasury, who then instructs its central bank to credit reserve accounts housed at the RBA. These are exchange settlement accounts. Taxation can be used to free up resources in the private sector for government use, but its main function is to place a demand on the currency. Without a tax liability, the currency has no value. So taxes drive demand for the currency. I think Frydenberg and co know this. Tax cuts add to the deficit, because the tax revenue is reduced, so the fiscal position automatically slides into deficit (the gov spending more than it taxes). So Frydenberg's tax cuts are classic neoliberalism, but the supposed pledge to target the unemployment rate is distinctly not neoliberal. Neoliberals have targeted the money supply (a complete failure) and since the late 80s/early 90s, have targeted inflation (a disaster). Now they've finally agreed to target the unemployment rate. This is effectively what Menzies/Holt did for years and it led to the golden age of capitalism. It'll be interesting to see how far they go. -
Comparatively, I think this is where our outside pace really helped us against Richmond. Having Hunt and Langdon as outlets really changes our dynamic and gives us a point of difference. Outside of JJ, who doesn't seem to be the same player he was in 2016, who breaks the lines for the Bulldogs? It's mostly a transition thing by handball for them, whereas we've become a real run and carry team off half back.
-
One of their better midfielders in Dunkley was not available. Would he have made the difference? Probably not, but you went early on the Bulldogs are in real trouble and I don't think it's justified.
-
Their midfield was smashed in the second half. Struggled big time in clearances. Their pressure around the ball completely dropped off as well and they stopped flicking the handballs around, and instead kicked long to the Richmond defenders. It's clear the handball game with careful ball use by foot is how you beat Richmond. I thought the Bulldogs were close to terrible and certainly impotent after half time. It was a very Hannan game. Applied a bit of forward pressure in bursts, took a good pack mark, found the ball inside 50 a couple of times and that was it. He's still way too inconsistent for a 27 year old. I wouldn't have him in my team. Sorry, Mitch. I felt Richmond applied a lot more pressure pressure for longer against us.

The US is authoritarian in its foreign policy but not domestically. It's an interesting point though. And not sure of you've heard Frydenberg's budget speech, but it appears the Libs are abandoning neoliberalism. -

Yeah, I don't think we should pay any of our players until we've won a premiership.- 370 replies

Would you take Jeremy Howe back?
Adam The God replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, you're very intellectual. Thank goodness we have you, Doc. -
That's great analysis and I wholeheartedly agree with it. Noice. ?

No one is a lock after 6 games in a 22 game season. Still a long way to go, but Jake has been outstanding, as has our entire defensive unit.
-
His workrate as an old school KPF was great, but his work at ground level was ordinary. I wouldn't be selecting him on that performance, unless we have injuries.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JAKE BOWEY
Adam The God replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
From now on whatever @Pickett2Jackson says, we'll know the opposite will happen. So no positivity, thank you. -
Agreed. Same with Tom in current form. He's agile enough to get the ball on the ground and lay tackles to lock the ball in.

You're not the only one that looks like a goose in this thread, but you do seem to enjoy playing the role generally. -

@Rod Grinter Riot Squad what makes you so sure this isn't a strategic leak from the club? If it becomes public knowledge, it does put some pressure on Christian to sign. If that's the case, I'm not sure it's the greatest strategy, but I don't think we have enough information to know whether it's necessarily bad that there's been a leak. -
Neoliberalism: The Economy, Banking & Asset Markets

This is neoliberalisms con. It hollows out our own domestic jobs market and certainly doesn't give consumers a better price. Telstra is a perfect example. Astronomical prices for basic serviced and few Australian jobs when its infrastructure was built by public money. -
This has aged beautifully.

Neoliberalism: The Economy, Banking & Asset Markets
Adam The God replied to Adam The God's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, it's interesting, because Yellen is a neoliberal deficit hawk, but he's clearly getting some advice from elsewhere that is nudging him away from neoclassical economics (New and Old Keynesian). If you look at their foreign policy though, if more people understood much of what neoliberalism entails, they'd be far more anti US than they are. Biden, along with Clinton and Obama, are big neoliberals when it comes to foreign policies. You watch them destabilise Venezuela. They've literally been meddling there since the late 90s, if not earlier. They've already destabilised Ecuador. They do it to get American business in there, and they use their influence within the IMF, WTO and the World Bank to set the financial agenda. That's why most of the Latin American countries are pegged to the USD, which always leaves them open to balance of payment crises and without their monetary sovereignty, they are at the whims of the US, particularly as they've adopted the USD. -
Did you happen to watch the Richmond game? Max, LJ and TMac seemed to go alright in the rain...
-
It's quite a bit taller than West Coast's: Tmac (194cm), LJ (199cm) and BBB (200cm) vs Kennedy (194cm), Darling (191cm) and Allen (194cm)

Friday night's contest will be fascinating. Richmond need to win, otherwise risk going 3-4. I think the Bulldogs are overrated. Their draw has been softer than ours. But Richmond are now missing Martin and Prestia from their midfield. I'd be tipping the Bulldogs, although Tim English out for them is big, with one less mid rotation with Dunkley out.
