  1. Has he ever even been tried down back? I think it is a lot harder to be a successful forward than to be a successful back. Newton is talented, no doubt, but he isn't quite skillful and committed enough to be a good AFL forward. Tarrant was the same (although Newton holds nothing up to Tarrant, let's be honest). If he can perform and act as another solid player down back, then I'm all for it. If Carroll and Warnock can get games down there, surely Newton can.
  2. I think a lot of men go to a lot of their games with their dads. It's a part of the culture, although it's becoming more of a family thing now. I second the reserved seat recommendation. I don't have one, but you're guaranteed to be sitting with a bunch of passionate, hardcore Melbourne fans. Otherwise, you can always hang around the standing room areas, because each bay has a group of regulars.
  3. Geelong will always, always have good membership figures. They just won 2 flags in 4 years ffs.

What exactly is his role? Acting tough and getting easy possessions as a lose man across half-back, ala Joel Bowden?

Nick Maxwell elite? I threw up in my mouth a little.
  6. I go with my parents 70% of the time but other times I am in the standing room area directly on the wing in the Southern Stand, Gate 6, AFL members. There's always a group of regulars standing around there. Great area to have a few beers or 10 and cheer on the Dees!
  7. It made me giddy in round 22 to see Jurrah and Wonna fighting for the ball. There was one moment in the pocket on the northern side at the Punt Road end where they were both running for the ball, and Wonna had a snap from a near-impossible angle and almost kicked the goal. Had he given it to Jurrah, it would have been a goal. But they're going to be a formidable part of our forward line!
  8. Very, VERY happy about this.
  9. lol @ Jurrahcane Katrina. Great username.

Would love to pick him up, but doubt he's leaving Collingwood.

We do not need anymore crumbing forwards. Petterd, Wonna, Jurrah, alongside Green and Watts. The ideal player we need is a tall that can slot down forward and take a grab like Jamar. That way, the likes of Jurrah and Wonna don't need to go up for the mark, and they crumb. Another crumbing forward would clog up the forward line.
  12. Thomas has had a great 2010. That list is based on 2010 performances. He was a great player in a great team. More than worthy of a top 10 place imo.
  13. You think too much. The brand is still intact - the red and blue, the red V, the dark blue - and yet you think the inclusion of an historic reminder of our history is cringe-worthy? Even as subtle as a small horse shoe on the back of the jumper? Remember, the club is in the midst of a rebranding. We had no brand 4 years ago, and we are currently trying to establish ourselves as a powerful club with a memorable and powerful brand. As long as that core design is intact, something like the stars could only have either a positive or no effect on neutral supporters. It's a reminder of success, something that can't be seen anywhere else. Do you think the random bandwagon football supporter knows Melbourne has 12 flags? Where else can we be reminded of that? It's a great opportunity to showcase the success we have as a club, and we should be proud of that success. Our inability to embrace that past, I think, has been what has halted our ability to create a well-known brand, because that's what it's about now. Collingwood's logo is an ageless logo that will always be around, and their symbolism as a club comes from their success and the "side by side" mentality, that even though they've been so unsuccessful over a 70 year period, they're still powerful. We might hate them for it, but you have to admire it. You need to take risks. The club has been stuck in a conservative, old fashioned mentality for going on 30 years. You need to experiment and embrace things like our 12 premierships. I am also very, very confident in Cameron Schwab. His passion for the club is undeniable, and in my 20 years following the club, I've never, ever been more proud to say I'm a Melbourne supporter. We're suddenly establishing ourselves in the community, and enforcing our brand aggressively. Part of that brand are our 12 flags. It doesn't matter that our last flag was 50 years ago. That's irrelevant. We have 12 flags, that's our history. Don't be embarrassed about it. The only way we can establish this brand is to embrace that history. We've done so partly with the brilliant new logo, and now with the stars. I don't mean to cause offense, but how old are you? It just seems that the baby boomers or thereabouts are so hesitant for change in regards to everything. Sometimes you need to branch off and look at the bigger picture.
  14. I can definitely picture yellow. Yellow goes well on red. Sounds great!
  15. I always guessed he would end up at the club in some capacity. To keep a guy like him on for so long even though he hardly played was always strange.
  16. Nice work! I was thinking he might be on his way to Essendon for Davey. Guess not.
  17. I'm sorry, but I refuse to admit that we tanked. We were never as bad as that Collingwood team, or as bad as Carlton in 2007. We should have ended 2009 4-7 if not for Jordie McMahon. We ended 3-8. And in 2008 we were just an absolutely terrible team. We would have failed at tanking. I'm not doubting some people wanted us to lose, but, in comparison to other "tanking" teams, we've hardly tanked at all.
  18. I can't imagine this tainting their Premiership in the slightest. 15-22 year old female bandwagoners are still going to sign on in droves next year. Watch their membership hit 70,000.
  19. He just wants to go back. Leave him alone
  20. They look like normal sunglasses to me. Pointless thread.
  21. lol @ Hawthorn. $10? Really. Argh. I'm surprised we're so short.
