We would have to be the best worst team every as it currently stands. Winning the ball in key areas and actually giving our forwards a chance but breaking down in every other part of the ground.

Attack is only as good as your defense. The more you score the more you stand to concede. Our defense had holes and the writing was on the wall in some games but we still improved dramatically on that area over 2017. However we have since regressed to defensive standards that we saw in 2013 and Roos' first year. Meanwhile our scoring has stopped. If we were allowing 15 goals a game but scoring 17-18 ourselves then no one would be talking about our defende. The problem is we're barely averaging 12 goals a game but comfortably giving up 15. So therein lies the problem. It was the opposite last year. Defensively across the ground we were quite good last year. This year we are a shambles. Defense goes beyond just backline efficiency.

Based on my above post it appears to have only been officially recognised just before the start of the season. If that's the case, was he "defensive coach" throughout the preseason or was it a last minute thing?

Could well quickly turn around like it did last year vs Richmond, but given our fixture and performances it appears extremely unlikely. Hawks and Tigers games last year were bad, but at least it wasn't a theme. This team is been average now for 8 straight weeks if you count the Prelim and practice games. We are 1-7 in that time which I suspect is bested in awfulness only by North and Carlton. We have gone from being a flag contender to being one of the worst teams in the league, overnight.

This goes well beyond the playing group, my friend. Regardless of the working environment, if you have a mudslinging contest taking place amongst your leaders and managers, the toxicity sets in, and morale is shot. The most damning thing about Saturday was that we had a 9 day break vs their 6 day break. They ran us off our feet. If ever there was an indictment on our fitness, gameplan, structure and coaching, then that's it. I believe that's what we call, "Doing a Melbourne". Which Richmond spud will burn us this week?

By the look of it, we now have almost a quarter of the season to judge on, and we are comfortably one of if not the worst team in the comp. that's how you have to look at it. St Kilda have looked solid although far from world beaters but they looked top 4 yesterday. The problem and concerning thing is that we've looked worse in every game bar Sydney, than the opponent has looked good. We've played 3 good quarters out of 20. Wins will be far and few between this year. We will net 5-7 wins imo. A huge regression. The club always manages to surprise me in its own self-awareness, that it consistently buckles so colossally under pressure or the weight of expectation.

Some Saints supporters nearby yesterday kept calling us "Hollywood". We were way too cute and play with a lack of respect for our opponents. There is also a weird sense that the playing group has utter contempt for the coaches. There is zero coherence. We are worse now than we were at any point during Roos' tenure, aside from the second half of 2014.

I called it. It was astonishing we were favourites. St Kilda was always going to smoke us on the transition. Not only that, but their pressure utterly embarrassed us. Their delivery and ball use put us to shame. They did the exact same thing last year but to far greater efficiency. That was a football lesson.

They will destroy us by 8+ goals. Their linking and coherence going forward even with key players out puts us to shame.

It might help a little, but giving teams such easy transition will still result in 4-5 goal losses. We get 3-4 entries in a row, but teams then go coast to coast for easy goals. Not since 2012-2013 have I seen opposition supporters laugh so much. We are being laughed at. Like I have little kids around me laughing at Melbourne. I haven't seen that since the Neeld years.
