  1. Yep, I'm certainly more keen on Phillips then I am Smith. Tom McDonald for Phillips is a no brainer. Wouldn't even mind throwing one of our 3rd rounders in with it in order to get it across the line.
  2. Because Ryan Gamble was no good as a forward either. I'll show myself out....?
  3. Welcome to Demonland Shaun, a great first post it must be said! ? Though in all seriousness I also mentioned in another post that Shaun may be worth looking at as a DFA purely as ruck cover. Though I think 2 years would be a bit rich, surely 1 would do.
  4. I don't like the sound of this. It screams of the AFL trying to have their cake and eat it to. In order to ensure that the NSW & Qld reserves teams are playing in a better standard competition, lets just dilute the competition that we have in Victoria to do so... Personally I would of thought having the NSW teams join the VFL and the Qld teams join the SANFL would have been a better option and would probably have been more cost effective. But that's just me???
  5. I agree with what other posters have said in relation to needing a player to replace Preuss as opposed to just a draft pick. One of the areas we need some cover aside from key forwards and another wing, which we already seem to have targets for, si another half back/small defender. Jetta seems to have hit the wall and Hibberd isn't getting any younger, so this is something we should target. Sadly GWS don't have any obvious candidates that come to mind, but a team they they'll be trading with (St Kilda) certainly have a few. I wouldn't mind seeing us send Preuss to GWS and Pick 47 to St Kilda. GWS send Pick 39 to us and Caldwell to St Kilda. St. Kilda send Pick 14 to GWS and Jimmy Webster to us. Improves our draft hand slightly and Webster would walk straight into our back pocket/half back flank position. Hasn't played a heap in the last two years due to injury, but his numbers are all good. Good turn of pace and kicks it nicely, plus with St Kilda developing the likes of Hunter Clark, Nick Coffield and Geary still going, he's a surplus to their requirements.
  6. Can't even see any rumors on the Bulldogs Bigfooty page, so not sure where they're circulating?
  7. Shockingly sad news to hear. He was a talented player. Feel for his family and friends.
  8. Good player, but doesn't really address any of our main needs (key forward, wingman, small defender/HBF), so it's a pass from me.
  9. It was a good team in 94' but disagree with those saying we should have won the flag that year. We were wildly inconsistent after the first 5 weeks of the season and only came 7th after the Ox booted 9 in the final round. We even lost to the Swans mid season at the G when they were on some sort of an all time losing streak! Though we played some great footy in the finals. 98 is the year that got away from us IMO. White at Stynes combo in the ruck, forward line of Lyon, Neitz, Schwarz, Farmer and Shaun Smith in the reserves. Shanahan and Ingerson holding down the key back spots with a midfield of Viney, Tingay, Yze, Leonceli, Rigoni and young guns coming through like Woewodin, Robbo, Johnstone, McDonald and Brown. Then started the finals by belting the previous years Grand Finalists by 50 points each in consecutive weeks. That's the one that got away from us!
  10. https://www.afl.com.au/news/retirements-and-delistings Current list of delistings and retirements above. So far only two who would potentially interest me, pending on how we go in the trade period. Shaun McKernan as ruck insurance for a year if we trade out Preuss. Probably a bit early to only have Jackson & Bradtke as ruck depth should Gawn go down, so McKernan could be of some cheap value here. Marley Williams as a small defender. With Jetta seemingly on his last legs and the jury still out on Lockhart and Chandler as small defenders, I'm hoping we can find someone in the trade period. We missed out on Saad, but maybe we can get Jordan Clark from Geelong or Lachie Ash from GWS in a Preuss trade? If not, then Marley Williams could be worth a look. Provides run and is a clean kick of the footy. Not sure how he measures on the no d-heads policy, but sometimes you just need to take the best available.
  11. Sam Mclure made an interesting comment on Footy Classified about GWS should target him for a role down back. This could open a potential muti player trade scenario. We send McDonald & Preuss to GWS, they send something to North who send Brown & Polec to us maybe???
  12. One could say very well done by Mahony & co.
  13. Bit early given we haven't got to free agency or trade period and we don't know what list sizes are going to be don't you think???
  14. Future 2nd round pick for Preuss should get the deal done IMO. For those concerned about the ruck depth with neither Jackson or Bradtke physically ready should Gawn go down, we could recruit Shaun Mckernan as insurance for a year or two if need be as a DFA.
  15. Still think he was stiff. He had a pretty good 2002 from memory. Though his 2001 was something to forget. Which would have made sense if we didn't also lose Powell. No wonder 2003 was so poor, losing two of our prime-movers in the midfield in one season.
  16. Reckon we could do worse then draft (maybe rookie) a father son in a year where there's little to no exposed form for the under 18's and it's going to be an even bigger lottery then normal.
  17. I reckon Jared Polec would be well worth a go. We could get him pretty cheap (trade wise) and we know what his best can produce.
  18. I expect both Sam Grey & Allen Christensen to stay at their clubs given Port missed out on Fantasia and Brisbane Elliott. Would love Sam Skinner despite the fact Brisbane will likely try to keep him. Think we should offer him a decent contract and get him in the PSD. Can play at either end and is really aggressive. Would also take a punt on Tim Broomhead assuming he gets delisted as a DFA. Was just starting to establish himself in the Collingwood team until he broke his leg early 2018. Has pace, is a good kick and would help provide some forward pressure and crumbing ability.
  19. Now that it's official I'd probably be happy enough to take a punt on him.
  20. Doesn't excite me. Think we have enough options on our list for midfield depth and will likely draft a few more anyway. When it comes to a DFA, personally I think we should focus on an area we could use some cover in, which for me is either a small defender (eg Nathan Wright or Aaron Mullett) or a tall forward (haven't seen many options yet). So for me, I don't see Sheridan fitting a need.
  21. Wouldn't put a line through him, but he needs a good summer. Was very disapointing in the 2017/18 summer.
  22. Hey LH. Nope haven't seen anything official myself. Just heard it from them on the Casey B&F Night.
  23. Agree WJ, and it's even more odd given no comments have been made since the tests themselves have been played. Langer lost me the moment that squad was named. I can't remember an Australian Squad being named with so many bizzare selections. Siddle ahead of Tremain, Doggett ahead of a wrist spinner like Swepson, Nesser over Stoinis, Labuschange over Maxwell and Finch over who would have been my left field selection to captain for the next 2 years and bat at 5, Cameron White. The Aussies showed some fight in the first test, and the performances of Finch & Labuschange exceeded my extremely low expectations (how two guys with first class batting averages in the mid 30's have made our XI I don't know??). But we had to much of the same. Marsh's fail, batting collapses, bowling left to too few. To make atters matters worse, with the way our summer is structured this year with the ODI's being mixed amongst the tests, some players like Maxwell will only be able to play one Shield match for e entire summer, even f he were to miss test selection (round of Shield matches starting 27 Nov). Lets not even get into the fact Khawaja's now likely to miss the summer. For me, this is the summer/time to finally say enough is enough. We already did it with Smith/Warner with what happened in South Africa, well now is the time to also do it with the wishy washy Marsh bro's despite the absences of Smith, Warner, Khawaja & Bancroft. For mine, I'd like to see our XI for the First Test against India to look something like; Aaron Finch (did enough in the UAE) Matt Renshaw Kurtis Patterson (may as well play him. NSW never shut up about him) Travis Head Glenn Maxwell Marcus Stoinis +Tim Paine* Pat Cummins Mitchell Starc Nathan Lyon Josh Hazlewood I don't expect Langer to drop his WA love children Marsh bros. But lets use this summer to stop the rot. Hope to win one test v India, series v Sri Lanka and hopefully set ourselves up for the Ashes. Keep an eye out for Will Pucovski from Victoria also. Only 20, averaging 52 after 7 First Class games and made a double ton in the opening round of the Shield. Finally just for formalities sake, think our ODI XI should look something like. Aaron Finch D'Arcy Short +Tim Paine Travis Head Chris Lynn Glenn Maxwell Marcus Stoinis Ashton Agar Mitchell Starc Kane Richardson Josh Hazlewood
  24. Agree re Lamb/Bugg. It also doesn't make sense given Bugg is better then Lamb. According to the two men themselves, Keilty and Smith are both staying on the rookie list.
  25. I thought it was a broken leg and he was available for selection again late in the season? But I could be wrong.
