Can he move forward? We're pretty well set right now for tall defenders, but we could use another forward. Assuming Dawes is moved on of course.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
RalphiusMaximus replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Melksham isn't anywhere near the same league as Vince. The ground his league plays on isn't even in the same CITY as Vince's league. When we got Vince the consensus was that we'd done really well out of the Sylvia pick and he was older but a significant upgrade. That has proven to be very much the case. Melksham has so many more questions over him, his inconsistent form, poor decision-making, WADA case... It's just a really dodgy move to trade for him. -
Mitch vandenBerg? Any relation?

Did someone mention unreasonable demands? -
Was that caused by young women as well?

Straight swap - Howe for Toby Greene
RalphiusMaximus replied to Norm Smith's Curse's topic in Melbourne Demons
Green was the first of their kids to show anything, but that's probably because he had a lower ceiling than the rest. Hasn't really improved from that first year and has some interesting history with off-field antics. I'm really not sure on this one. He runs well and wins his own ball. Possibly an upgrade on Bail/M. Jones. As has been mentioned, the kicking is a problem. -
Pretty sure I said something about him needing to get more of the ball to justify his place in the team. His average disposals only went up by two, but I think that's largely because he started the year slowly. Once he clicked in the second half of the season he was regularly up around the 30 mark which is where we need him to be.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
RalphiusMaximus replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Firstly, just because you didn't see what Stef was capable of doesn't mean that others couldn't. I wasn't at all happy when he left. Secondly, You're declaring that because Melksham is a former top 10 pick he must be a good pick up. How about we take Morton and Sylvia as delisted free agents then? They were both TOP FIVE PICKS!!!! You need to accept that sometimes clubs get these picks wrong, or they stuff up the development badly enough to wreck them. You may notice the best picture they have of him is one where he's being beaten to the ball. Actually, we've shown ourselves to consistently pay overs for players we don't really need. Look at the overpayment for Dawes and Lamumba. The Bombers will demand more than the Pies did. We got lucky with Vince and Garlett was out the door anyway. They took some junk picks rather than see him go FA. -
Really anyone from the Bombers.

The Saints know how screwed they are once their 30+ players retire. They're rightly doing everything possible to get more talent into the club while they can. Rather than complaining about them chasing everyone decent, ask why it is that Melbourne aren't chasing everyone. I want to know why our name isn't being mentioned as having put a big offer on the table for Treloar, Dangerfield, Freeman and any other player who might conceivably be leaving their club and be able to make our side better.

Pedersen has done pretty well filling this role. He's certainly a better option than Dawes.

2015 Player Review - # 1 Jesse Hogan
RalphiusMaximus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Only 4.6 goals a game or so. Nothing to it really. -
I tend to think that in a good side he'd look twice the player. His leads wouldn't be ignored as often, passes would be put to his advantage rather than over his head or off to one side and with better ball movement he'd have more room to move in. He reminds me of Cale Morton.

Walker.

No thanks. Slow bit player.

Agree with this. Collingwood are great at selling fool's gold. That being said this kid could come good with some careful management. I wouldn't pay a lot for him, but he's be worth a shot. Maybe try to rookie him somehow?

Well, Jack finished top 10 in the DL POTY. Obviously we rated his games higher than the coaches did.

What it says is that the coaches are looking for something very different to the fans.

The Keith "Bluey" Truscott Memorial Trophy - 2015
RalphiusMaximus replied to a topic in Melbourne Demons
Gus faded badly. He really should have been rested a couple of times through the year. By the end he was getting ten touches a game. -

Loving that Jones is fifth. I've said it before, if we're to improve he can't be our best player. -

God I hope that's just a bored Journo making [censored] up. Which is kind of funny given he's one of the shortest guys on it. -
Well, if they left in 2014 then there are only so many options: James Frawley Mitch Clark Shannon Byrnes Sam Blease Mitch Clisby Michael Evans Alex Georgiou Dan Nicholson James Strauss Luke Tapscott Dom Barry Maia Westrupp Who is still around the club? Byrnes is coaching at Casey, so it could be him. He's one of the few there who would also have a reasonable frame of reference to judge by. Evans and Strauss are both playing with Old Scotch, so that might be a place to connect.
