I too just have the feeling that we have the foundations in place now. I'm not sure we're quite ready for finals next year, but the year after, provided we don't suffer from some terrible luck with injuries or a Brisbane-style Mass Exodus, I think we should be right into the 5-8 bunch. There's just that look of hardness about the team now that we've lacked for such a long time. If we can keep that and add a little polish and firepower so we're not having those terrible 50 point games that hurt us so badly this year we'll be giving it a real shake.

I don't rate Geelong's trading as much as everyone else apparently. Dangermouse is a great player, no doubt, but the others are all just ok. They have a spare Selwood who's not as good as Joel, they have an injury-prone Ruck/Forward to go with their other injury-prone Ruck/Forward and Henderson is nothing special.

I agree with Norm. Enough playing him forward. He needs to sit down back and use that freakish athleticism and power to shut down the big forwards. That frees Dunn to play the third tall/rebounder role, and he's a far better kick than Frost or Tommy.

Even these little snippets are gold. Thanks for sharing.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER

I don't know if it's been posted before, but there was a nice little article on the lad before he was drafted in The Age. Talks about his OP, struggles with fitness at the start of the season and the amazing work his parents did to help him out. -

Pretty sure the train station would be the best bet for parking for me if I could get there. -
I have to believe that we will rise. GWS too. Freo to go down. Hawks to drop as well (not hard since they can't go up any further. I'd love to see the Pies and Geelong go down a few more pegs. Bulldogs I think will drop to just out of the finals. Just a bit of a hangover/getting ahead of themselves. Look for them to bounce right up in 2017.

So it is. When did he get those tatts? -
I know the club said finals next year, but I think that is a touch optimistic. I'd be happy to finish just above Richmond, preferably with Collingwood and Geelong a few spots further back.

There's a picture in the middle of the set of a dude getting his top almost ripped off while he's trying to unload. Is that Wagner? He looks like he has some strength to him to be holding his ground like that. -

What are the chances of them changing it to a Saturday if I ask nicely? -
I'm on the default Demons theme. The white background is very white. Edit: Safe for work theme the same issue.

This is really hard on the eyes on PC. Will there be tweaking of the colour scheme?

Egan had the same injury. I don't know about the others. This of course is why I'm such a big advocate of taking things really slowly with him. It can so easily be a career-ending injury.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN

This bit kind of worries me. Comparing him to a totally ordinary and uninspiring player isn't a great look. -
And by then we'll either be seeing that he can still play or know that he's done. Still no reason to rush him back during the start of the season.

I think people tend to forget how good Grimes is a a defender. Everyone gets hung up on his disposal, which he does need to work on, and forget that he's a very good stopper.
-
I suspect this is the case. Even if everything goes perfectly I don't think we'll be considering him for seniors until later in the season. Go softly now to give him the best chance of being there when we need him in a few years.

So from training reports today he's still running but hasn't progressed to kicking a ball yet. Damn I hope that foot holds up when he starts putting a full load on it.

Ah. That would make sense. I suppose the club won't be posting the footage for us either.

Post it for the rest of us?

I seriously want to see a year with no major injuries. It would be a dream result if Trenners got back, Petracca had a full season, and none of the other 4-6 weekers cropped up. Imagine what our team would look like at absolute full strength given what they have already shown themselves to be capable of with pieces missing. We may not have the depth to keep going with key players out like the Hawks or WC, but our best side is starting to look pretty damn good.

Partnerships - Coincidence or strategy
RalphiusMaximus replied to hells bells's topic in Melbourne Demons
It's something I noticed in the successful teams on the early naughties as well. Lots of pairs who tended to work together during games. When it comes off it's a great thing to have in a side.
