  1. A previous coach misread his name as Clarence rather than Clayton. It was mentioned in an article a while back.
  2. A guy I know had dinner with Jake Spencer yesterday (something like his room mate is a friend of Jake's girlfriend). Said he's on crutches for the ankle he did in the game. According to Spence, it's not too bad, but it sounds like he's out for a few weeks.
  3. Well, As always I'd love to go along. Looking forward to the reports from those who don't have to work.
  4. Just looked this up. Aaron has three boys. Marley (2010) and twins Archie and Isaac (2012) Green has two. Oliver (unsure) and Wilba (2012?). Bruce has one, Ben. Not sure when he was born. Either way, it's going to be a while before we are looking at any of these lads joining the side, but we can hope right? Sometime around 2028-2030, assuming the rule still exists, we may have access to some pretty good talent.
  5. How old are the Davey boys? Come to think of it, didn't Bruce and Green have a couple of lads in the same bracket?
  6. Sorry, bad pun. Still, according the the Herald-Sun, he's having a great pre-season and with Roughy out may well be in their starting 22 in round 1. Honestly, I really hope he does do well with them.
  7. You need to factor in their acceleration time. The first 20m are the slowest.
  8. I think there was a photo of Billy as a 14 year old playing representative footy in SA. I'm not sure on Jack, but probably a similar age. It would be amazing if this kid came on to be the athlete his Dad was. He'd be a very handy forward with that height and leap.
  9. The top mids at the draft combine tend to be around 2.8 seconds for 20m sprint. Given that these two are a bit heavier and likely to be somewhat less nippy, I tend to think it would be the 20m they're doing.
  10. I think the big thing is his conditioning. He's worked miracles to get his fitness base up as well as he did, but lots of reports still suggest that he needs to put on some muscle now that he's lost the puppy fat.
  11. If I recall the AFL approached the NFL a couple of years ago asking to partner in their research into Acquired Brain Injuries and were knocked back. Also, looking back to the case of Viney's hit/not hit on Lynch from Adelaide. Part of his defence was that he had suffered concussions as a junior and the club were trying to teach him not to lead with his head so much which is why he could be seen turning and bracing rather than running headlong into the man. It should be noted that the "head over the ball" thing that is regarded by most these days as the proper way to attack a loose ball has only existed for a little over a decade. It is the direct product of one of the more impressively bad rule changes from AFL House whereby they declared any and all contact to the head to be illegal, prompting players to lead with their heads in search of cheap free kicks where before they were taught to turn side-on and take the impact on their hip or shoulder. Not only has it lead to more concussions, it has also spawned other rule-changes in an attempt to control the players wildly flinging themselves into the fray head-first, injuring themselves and others.
  12. I don't think he is. The biggest flaw in his logic is the assumption that we'll still be basing the game around the initial Roos plan of boundary-line, force the throw-in and reset structures. That was designed to allow a poorly drilled, unfit and badly developed group stay in the game. It had the two huge benefits of limiting turnovers and stopping play from being continuous, meaning we had frequent opportunities to get everyone back into their assigned spot. While Roos is a big fan of defensive play, that is more the sophisticated defensive work of the dockers than the simple "bomb it long to the boundary" we were using. Now that our coaches are a bit more confident in the group and feel that they are well-drilled enough to keep their [censored] without being told every 30 seconds, we are seeing a move to more attacking play. We will certainly see the ultra-defensive game at times during the year, but it won't be plan A anymore.
  13. Not entirely sure this is fair to Jordie. At Casey he was consistently polling big numbers and was often in their best players. I think the big problem for him was that he was told he needed to hurt the opposition, and that's where he fell down. Big numbers in the middle weren't enough without hitting the scoreboard.
  14. To be on target we should be sniffing around just outside the eight. 9-11 range is ok. If things really click we're a faint shot at finals, but I won't be holding my breath for that.
  15. Saw that. I like the commitment. I also saw Saty say that the intraclub will be Friday. Good thing we're supporting Collingwood so none of us have jobs we need to be at or anything. Sorry, Anyfink.
  16. It is. Gill is CEO but the AFL is run by the commission. That's a big part of the problem. There are a bunch of self-important twerps sitting in a boardroom who don't understand that their job is to facilitate the playing and viewing of the competition, rather than dictate how, when and if it is played. It's the old "polite euphemism," like a young single woman going to visit with relatives in the country. For nine months or so.
  17. Not big on details. It's from Robinson. The two have had a massive falling-out. Brownless says unlikely to be able to repair friendship. Neither of them are currently booked for the footy show and they don't know which of them, if any, will be involved this year. Both are contracted to MMM, but on different shows. Brownless has had a tough year including a few stupid comments getting called in the media and his wife leaving him. That's about it.
  18. Me too, but I would have been honest about it.
  19. If they're in any way sensible then profits are invested to generate greater future profits. Ultimately you want the club to be able to survive a slump in membership and still maintain their levels of spending on football. The big clubs have other income streams which keep them profitable regardless of their on-field performance. We need to be get into that league.
  20. It does, but given the small talent pool they can't afford to hold off longer. The best talent often have a couple of sports they could be playing and if only one of those is offering a contract after they finish high school then that's the one they'll go for.
  21. No, you're not being precious. It's supposed to be a partnership. So far it seems to be all one way. Basic professionalism should dictate that they look after us.
  22. I was trying to find this today. Would be good to know.
