  1. We can't complain really. They've given us the areas the club has already invested fairly heavily in. I wonder if this is where Cowan is going to be involved with her new development position?
  2. That is possibly the best thing I've ever heard of from pay TV. Pity I don't have it. For those who do, enjoy!
  3. One would think that this is true of any team sport.
  4. I've said it before and I'll no doubt say it again, Watts' biggest problem is that his teammates never kick to him. Part of this is his own doing because he can lead too early, especially inside the forward 50 which means that by the time they're ready to kick he's already had his run. More of it is that our midfielders tend to be slow getting back from the mark, slow to make decisions and generally don't trust themselves to hit a leading target, preferring to bomb high and long to the square and hope someone else will do the hard work of making it into a goal. When you go to the games rather than watch on TV, you see Watts make multiple leads into space, generally leaving his opponent for dead, and just get ignored. You see the frustration as he keeps trying to create attacking opportunities and his teammates make the decision to bomb for the boundary and a throw-in instead. If our midfield improves to the point where they are actually willing and able to hit his leads rather than taking the easy option, he will look like he belongs in an AFL team. For his part, he needs to recognise the limitations of his teammates and do more to make the option obvious and easy for them. This would include things like better timing and communication on his leading, perhaps even instructing exactly where he wants the ball to go (something Neitz did very well). He also needs to improve his ability to hold marks under pressure so his teammates have faith that if they do stuff up the kick a little he'll still be able to contest for the ball.
  5. Hopefully the MFC.
  6. I wonder if he can get back in time to play against GWS. I'd love to see him break a certain person's nose again.
  7. Incidentally, given the title of this thread, I propose that Hunt be nicknamed "The Enigma."
  8. But he's like Brawndo. He's got what the club needs.
  9. For now. Love that film. Vastly underrated.
  10. March 19th I'm not working. Great chance to have a look at the young guys fighting for a spot in the seniors.
  11. I don't think we'll see Hunt playing as a HBF this year. He may turn into one in time, but right now winning contested ball isn't his strong suit. I think they'll bring him in as a forward pocket/HFF and rotate through the middle to get value out of his pace and ability to kick goals. I've only seen him play in person once out at Casey. Overall he didn't do that much on the day, but he showed his speed in one play where he burst out of the pack at HB, raced down the wing with blistering speed and nailed a perfect pass to CHF on the run. If he can show that sort of speed and poise more often he's certainly in the mix to play seniors and I really hope he does because we are desperate for pace on the outside and that is the one thing he has in abundance.
  12. Cotchin has better skills than Jones, but he goes to pieces under pressure. Jones has far more fight to him which is why he's so valued in our club. He will always put up a fight.
  13. Given that somebody decided to bump the OTHER Trengove thread, let's just try to keep this one up at the top of the page shall we? Maybe we can pin it?
  14. Look at Martin Pyke as a bit of a case study. At the start of his career he was a giant key defender who was brought in to the Melbourne side to tame gorillas. If you look at him playing in the early 90's he looked huge. Fast forward to his time at Brisbane and he's a HBF who is towered over by the key forwards. He slimmed down a lot over the years, but his height didn't change. It was just that the people around him started getting taller.
  15. Can't argue that, but he is a Hero for the club. He's been the one player to stand up and fight through the years of rubbish, he's taking personal responsibility for mentoring the next generation of players who will hopefully surpass him and he's never even considered leaving the club for a cheap premiership. Given that Oliver has moved in with the Brayshaws, I'm really hoping to see Jones (and Gus) doing the same job of mentoring he did with Gus last year. You can clearly see the benefit Brayshaw gained from having a mentor like that just around the corner, taking him out of training runs, making sure he got out the door and in to the club on time and just driving home the professional habits needed right from the start. The training reports, including from Gus himself, say that Oliver loves the physical stuff, loves to tackle and wrestle and is a ferocious competitor. It sound like he's setting himself up to have a Brayshaw-like first season. If we get that sort of output from him this year then we're way ahead of the game and should be thrilled.
  16. They'll be third up against the wall, right after politicians and the Marketing Department of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation.
  17. On the height thing: Allen Jakovich was 187cm. Ablett Senior was 185cm. Jason Dunstall was 188cm Matthew Lloyd was 192cm Garry Lyon was 193cm I am often amazed at how the game has changed in so little time. Imagine if these guys were playing today. We never would have seen the genius of Ablett or Jakovich as forwards because they would have been pushed into midfield roles and told to get fitter. Lloyd and Lyon would both be considered borderline as key forwards, probably more of the high half-forward link-up player. I doubt Dunstall would be given a chance at all with his build. He clearly couldn't play as a mid, but there's no way they'd let him be a lead-up full forward at his height.
  18. Mutual respect. I think they have very similar mindsets and neither one would insult the other by not giving it 100%. Now that Oliver is living at Brayshaw HQ, I'm hoping that Jones can do something similar in mentoring him through his first season. He's such a great role-model for a young player starting out with his courage and work ethic.
  19. Pretty sure he's been interning at a financial firm of some sort while not at the club. I think that's the direction he's planning on taking if footy falls through.
  20. Here's the report from Range Rover on 'Ology:
  21. I look at it as an example of how umpiring has changed. Back then the ump saw the ball coming, figured out that he was in the line of fire and got out of the way. These days the ump would try to mark the ball and Plugger would be suspended for not going around.
  22. Remember the ump who found himself in the path of a Lockett Lead? Drop flat and pray as Tony passed overhead
