Revising history here BPA. Clarkson was the first to emphasise post clearance. The Hawks in their dominant years lost clearance regularly. Lewis when he came over was very vocal about it. Inside sliders - I presume you mean wingers coming in behind the play? - are not Goodwin inventions
-
Tommo is not named as an emergency so that can't happen
-
A player is repeatedly used as a sub and under Goodwin is lucky to get 10min of game time. "If they come in and perform" - what in the 10 min game time they get? C'mon. Bedford was sub 8 times one year, Jordon was sub on at least 6 occasions off the top of my head. Generally that had half a quarter game time at best. So they don't play seniors, they don't play at Casey. It is appalling
-
Re the actual game (radical I know) can anyone give a preview of how the Giants will play and what we will do to try and counter that? What are the likely match ups? They're not a side I have watched
-
Sorry but this post is ridiculous and has been laid out numerous times before 1. Jordon was a free agent. It was not a 'swap' per se. Billings was available and was cheap. Who else would you have got? 2. We did not let Bedford go. He was offered a 2 year deal I recall and took 3 from the Giants with guaranteed game time 3. Schache and Fullarton have been failures but this is where its a lazy argument. Name me the payers that you would have been able to draft? 4. I agree with you on Grundy

Bizarre comment. Windsor is a skinny kid but has done everything asked of him. I would argue strongly that Brown is the same. After his game saving tackle (in 14 min of football) he was dropped. Not a great message. And in general our use of the sub has been frankly appalling. Is it any wonder players like Woewodin cant get any continuity in their game? Ditto Jordon and Bedford, Laurie Yet senior players like Salem are rushed straight back in to the side and underperforming players are given way too much grace. Lack of selection integrity under Goodwin is absolutely a fair criticism
-
Not sure it is directly comparable to Jordon as he was a sub many times. I think that Sparrow is given a run with role rather than a fixed role at half fwd or half back etc. He is also used to rotate through the mdfield when you look at the CBA's But you might be right in that the lack of a fixed position is hindering his development. I am a fan of his but he has certainly been underperforming. I'd also be pretty sure that it would have been pointed out to him many times over the last 8-10 weeks and they have finally lost patience.
-
I was under the impression that Sparrow usually had a role to play on a key oppo player. Clearly he didn't do that effectively last week. And clearly he is not a stats accumulator Against the Blues in rd 9 he played well. 22 D/ 17K/6M/2T/7i50s/

Brown with 24 tackles deserved a call up Outstanding performance

When was the last time he played at Casey?

Some people on here have zero idea on how hard it is to trade for other players. 'oh we didn't we get such and such' is such an easy, lame, BS line to say. It's hard. The club talks to dozens of players and managers every month of the year Convincing players to come to our club is not easy. First they have to be available and gettable, And fitting them into the list based on cap, age, profile etc is an incredibly difficult task. Then you need the picks to be able to get them. The club could do better but they have done a good job.

Is there more joy for the re-signing of Petty or Windsor
jnrmac replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think this is interesting, We know TMac has an extraordinary tenacity with his training and fitness, Not sure how Petty measures up in that regard but I'd dare say its not as fanatical as TMac -
All time Brownlow Votes for Melbourne (EG is eligible games played) 1 – Robert Flower – 130.5 votes (269 EG) 2 – Clayton Oliver – 116 votes (152 EG) 3 – Greg Wells – 92 votes (224 EG) He's alright Clayton. Just need him to get back to what he does best
-
Someone will pay that. Hope its not us. Carlton need defenders and have a magic money tree somewhere.
-
I think thats right, So weird we can't seem to get him fwd time.
-
Houston would be a great get. Expensive but good Think we need to hold some bucks and picks for a gun mid. My fear is that Oliver will never get back to that pinnacle And I am not sure of anyone has mentioned us trying to get a forward from somewhere..... but I think its a need....🤪

Don't really want to interject with your little spat but a correction is warranted We won two in a row, not three which is the first time since round 7 and 8 that we had won two in a row. wacky doo It's round 20 and you're entitled to view the season with Pollyanna glasses but too many of us have seen this movie before. It's 5 minutes to midnight and our season is being blown away
-
So there were no surprises. Freo played exactly as we knew they'd play. We knew Brayshaw and Serong would get leather poisoning But we tried to play our way? Pressure marginally better than Alice but a shut show
-
Woey got a corky in the last few minutes of the game. It's why he didn't fly to Perth.
-
Stop the switch we win We also have a lot of WA boys that like to play well in from of families and friends. And maybe a small Jab to the WA recruitment teams that overlooked them. Go dees

Hawthorn now have 2

Interesting article from 2011 about North that suffered 6x 100pt losses and bounced back to win each match the following week Not strictly comparable but shows how sides' form can vary dramatically from week to week Dees by 14 https://www.afl.com.au/news/75676/bounceback-kings
