Bailey Laurie to half-back in 2026?
We're at the stage where everybody is starting at square 1. No preconceived biases. Train well show the coaches what you've got and if its any good you play. Goodwin had his favourites and his selection policy was a shambles so it will be interesting to see how King plays it out. I'll take him at his word and say that everyone has an even chance. Those that want to grasp the nettle now is your time. What we do know with new coaches is that at end of year 1 there is usually a decent clear out so the message to our players is simple. If you don't want to be gone at the end of the year show something solid.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
This gets missed a lot. Your looking at 17yo and projecting what they may be like at 21-24 essentially Always interesting to go through previous drafts and see how many top picks never make it.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Bottom age players like Nairn are interesting prospects. They have done it tougher during the junior ranks due to being smaller, less opportunity for rep teams etc due to their lesser physical development. So to see a player perform well against physically bigger teammates is a really good sign. One to watch.

AFL Draft 2025: Pick 30 (formerly 37)
Interesting how we ranked them 1. Rowell, 2 Jackson, 3 T Green, 4 H Young, 5 D Robertson. The actual draft was Rowell, Anderson, Jackson, L Ash, D Stephens, F McAsey, H Young, C Serong, L Henry, T Green, S Flanders, K Pickett, W Day, M Bergman, C Weightman

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Wasnt Trengove suspended for a 'sling' tackle against Dangerfield who claimed concussion and then played next week and kicked 6 goals? My strong dislike for Dangerfield started them. Its only gotten stronger

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Interesting call. I was enthusiastic about his evasive skills and speed but he does seem to get rushed. Maybe he puts himself in that position because he seems to double back a lot and cut through traffic. Not sure that will translate at AFL level immediately. Over time though you'd think he would learn to adapt to the pace of the game

Tassie Devils Possible Extinction
I reckon this is on the money The AFL don't really want a tassie team and they are setting the bar high which gives them a face saving out 'oh we tried but the State Govt reneged' Michael Warner's great book The Boys Club lays out in exquisite detail how the AFL run rings around gormless politicians

Farewell Clayton Oliver
We really need to look at the Oliver trade on a net net basis. We got Steele at a cheap rate, the difference between his output and Olivers, the lack of distraction, leadership etc. Net net we're even maybe slightly behind on Olivers present output - well behind if Oliver gets back to his 21 form

New Rules For AFL 2026 - All SEVEN of ‘em!
So here's the problem. A perfectly sound rule, in place for decades with no controversy was changed the way it was interpreted. This created major controversies and was universally disliked. So the AFL introduces a new rule that requires interpretation. It will create controversy and uncertainty no doubt. The leadership of the AFL are [censored]

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
And nor were there "really positive signs in the last 4 minutes" as Goodwin said.

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
The only positive out of this game is that it forced the club to take action on Goodwin.

- New Rules For AFL 2026 - All SEVEN of ‘em!
last touch rule will likely see disputes and reviews What happens if a player kicks a ball 30m but it is touched by the man on the mark? That all of a sudden becomes a free to the kicking team? Seems unfair. Or when players are close to the boundary line and a player with the ball handballs into the legs of an oppo player and the ball goes bounces over the boundary. Will be a dogs breakfast For 100 years we had deliberate OOB that worked ok- Incoming Presidents Message to Members
One vacancy this time but one time there might be three or 4 directors up for re-election at some other point. As for current situation with onfield performance etc the current Board wears that. There is no guarantee of anything but they will live and die by results. They have acted by seeking a renewal of Board, coaching and playing group and here we are. It may not improve but doing nothing was not an option.- Dawn of a new Era - Paul Guerra article 18.10.2025
The club knew, the media knew, other clubs knew. I spoke with a player that was looking to move back to melb for an Asst Coaching role who said he would never go to melb because of the player problems and behaviours (this was back in 2023) I have kids in their 20s who would regularly see certain melb players at nightclubs playing up. It's not like it was a state secret. The key is how the leadership group and the coaches deal with it and there the record speaks for itself.- Dawn of a new Era - Paul Guerra article 18.10.2025
The Lorne camp where Oliver left after a day or so? Sounds like he was a disruptive influence- Dawn of a new Era - Paul Guerra article 18.10.2025
Good question. I suspect it had a bit to do with Grundy's fitness. When he first played he was coming back off a longer term injury and was way too unfit for the time of running that Max does. Then it was clear that Grundy was not a forward and he couldn't. play anywhere else. As it turns out neither could Max The relationship looked like it soured and that became blindingly obvious when Grundy was not selected to play after round 17 in 2023. Shocking that he didn't play against the pies or carlton in the finals Not sure how much is was Max's demands vs the coaches but it all went south. I guess its a credit that the reasons have never leaked and each party speaks highly of the other.- Dawn of a new Era - Paul Guerra article 18.10.2025
Max is a lead by example on field leader but leadership is so much more than that. Viney is the same. 'watch me do it' A good Captain example would be Luke Hodge that led by example as a player but also marshalled his players and directed them on field, etc. AS well he directed his leadership group what to do so that they could impart that on to their forwards, midfield defence etc. Our on field leadership has been wanting in many big games and the St Kilda game was a shining example of how bad it was.- Incoming Presidents Message to Members
The last thing we want is a bunch of randoms on the Board. They never work. You need a united team with a core skills across a range of areas. We're all passionate supporters but adding value in a variety of areas is key. It sounds wonderful to have 6 passionate members elected to the Board but without experience, drive, initiative, skills and co-ordination it quickly becomes a mess with competing agendas and egos. Let the cobblers cobble. - New Rules For AFL 2026 - All SEVEN of ‘em!
