But not a bad idea. 'We think you can make it and will give you a go but you need to improve quickly'. Beats guys like Danny Hughes hanging around for 6 or 7 yrs for less than a handful of games.....

Every team that gets beaten by Melbourne is "IN CRISIS"!!!!!

Anyone see a bit of Stephen Tingay in that Parish video? Like the farmer work ethic. Very Nat Fyffe as well...
-
Maybe he's been told to go easy as he's a lock for a few clubs.....

Not long it would seem.

Matt Jones might be OK if he didn't turn the ball over AND give away pointless dumb free kicks in our defensive 50m zone. Never seen a bloke who can career into a bloke's back with such regularity. Dump, for mine.

Cale Morton and Jimmy Toumpas beg to differ ...

Is that a racist thing?

I get it, you don't actually want the 3rd and 7th best kid in this draft , you want the kids in this draft that will turn out to be the 3rd and 7th best in 4 years time? Righto then, that should be easy.....

From the HS: The Demons were one of the big winners, converting a package of four draft picks for Nos.3, 7 and GWS defender Tom Bugg. Football boss Josh Mahoney told the Herald Sun the Dees identified the loophole about a month ago and planned to exploit it to rise up the draft order. “That was one of the things we spoke about and we’re really happy the plan has come through,” Mahoney said. “The key thing is you’ve got to learn how the system works and how the points work and I think as the trade period has gone on the influence of points is certainly coming through.” Good to see the club actually was ahead of the curve in recognising the opportunities that the academy points system provided as well as the trading future picks. We have to improve immediately. Its been 10 yrs seasons we played finals. This year should have seen us improve more but we were held back by players that either didn't have the talent or didn't have the competitiveness required. To lose four first quarters/first halves we did from rds 19-22 in the manner we did was simply unacceptable and we needed players that would stand up when the chips were down. Hence the drafting strategy this year. We also needed talent and are in the position where the Dangerfields of this world dont want to come to us (hopefully prestia will). Our talent simply has to come from within and with 6 top 10 picks from the past 3 drafts we will hopefully have filled that home-grown talent requirement. ONly after real improvement and a genuine sustained chance at finals can we see external talent pick Melbourne as a club to want to come to. I think this draft sets us up if we nail the top 2 picks. We can win 10-11 games if we eliminate the pathetic quarters from our game and create belief within the group. The Dogs have shown how momentum is so important for belief. We have shown in patches how the opposite is true. Trading a future pick was a necessary strategy for us. In essence we have used the pick for this year to target someone that we clearly want. If we can get trengove on the park and petracca shows us what he is capable of we will be a much harder side to play in 2016 than we were in 2015.

Yep that's the ticket. 3mins of video footage to decide our whole drafting strategy. The footy dept has done nothing all year but has since watched youtube and is now ready for the draft. Its probably fair to say that the footy dept worked hard to get pick 3 becuase it knows exactly who it wants.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JOEL SMITH

Love this bit from his dad Shaun "He can definitely jump higher than me" Wow! I can see why we were happy to turf Howe!!! -
Like Jack Darling red flags??
-
I think they are also happy to trade with us rather than a club that is vying for a flag next year. Ithink they are wrong in that though

Was just thinking about GWS and their drafting. They have had the cream of draft picks and so many are gone or are on the way out. Yet there is hardly a comment in the medya about them unlike the Dees that have copped it from pillar to post. They have lost: Pick 1 Boyd pick 2 O'Rourke pick 3 Plowman tyson Pick 12 Jaksch Hoskin Elliot and Buntine look like busts and I can't be bothered going trough the rest of them but plenty are looking to leave....
-
No it didn't. They have been talking about for a considerable time. The only thinkg that changed was GC no longer get Howe but they get the pick we received for Howe.
-
Its the 18th midfield in the comp. That's about as deplorable as it gets. But if you think its OK then........
-
I am disappointed too but the reality is you are very limited in what you can do and it now depends heavily on players wanting to come to you. We aren't aware of who they have been talkng too so can't really comment, Dangerfield was apparently thrown a blank chq, Parker was chased... what more can they do?? Part of the rhetoric as we know about Roos is that it plays to a wider audience. Its not simply telling supporters we will be aggressive, Its telling other clubs, 'make sure you speak to us because we have picks and players and will look at every deal'. We are definitely a club that others can do deals with and I would surmise we get to see a lot of potential deals - but closing them is tremendously hard. Having said that, so far I am very underwhelmed with what we have done. There is an arguable improvement in the list but its marginal at best and we have to improve massively overall (but particularly in the midfield). And we have to improve relatively - most people don't get this. Improving our list is one part of the equation but everyone else is doing the same. We have to improve relative to the top teams and this is where free agency has farked it up for the lower clubs. In any given year the bottom team will improve relatively against the top team by a single draft pick (because after the first pick the picks are essentially equal). If you stuff that pick up like we have done you haven't improved. With FA players leaving bottom clubs to go to the top clubs, the bottom clubs are worse off. So much for equalisation.

[censored], Not one recruiter in the land thought that. You're a revisionist dreamer.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN KENNEDY

He's a competitor. Thats the theme this year... -
I don't like this personally but will wait til trading is over. Just shows how difficult it is: we can't land a big fish and players nominate their own terms, even when under contract. The system has to change. Those that don't rate Howe or Toumpas will be happy but for mine Howe had much more currency that what we ended up with. Toump for Kennedy seems like a small win because BK is more a contested type, faster and is not a deer in the headlights.
