And then drop 10 ladder places? The guys where lost 9 in a row to start the season?
-
TV moguls don't care about attendances.

When Melbourne plays well we get big crowds. When Melbourne gets a decent fixture and time slot we get decent crowds. When Melbourne plays the big Vic clubs we get big crowds. Its a circular argument. If the argument for Friday night games is performance, Carlton does not deserve them. As for "That is why Carlton have none this year, last year they got lots and put up poor numbers." Why did they get them in 2015?? They finished 13th on the ladder? The bottom 6 clubs do not exist to make the top 12 clubs bigger. The system is designed to ensure every team has a chance of winning a flag regularly. The system is failing and entrenching imbalances and distortions like fixturing and TV exposure on an ad hoc basis only serves to make the wek weaker.

Talent alone does not get you success. There are countless examples of people with natural talent that did have the drive and perseverence to succeed. And countless examples of the opposite. IMO there is no one thing but high on the list is: 1) picking the wrong type of players - players without competetive spirit; and, 2) The lack of leadership at the club. This was pivotal to ensuring draftees made the transition from juniors to AFL. Imagine if Luke Hodge, N Riewoldt or Jonno Brown saw Gysberts refuse to run a time trial because it was too hot? They would have to be held back from seriously hurting that player. The lack of leaders demanding how players behave and perform has been a massive issue for us for along time. Guys like Jeff White, Yze, Cam Bruce, Robbo, Brad Green were good players for us but regularly went missing on the field and could not inspire the rest of the players to drive themselves. They were the leaders at our club and failed at that task. Neitz and Junior were much better. Nate Jones tries hard but doesn't have the Hodge, Selwood x-factor when it comes to leadership. I'd say the recruiters are getting much better at that now with Vince, McDonald, Brayshaw and Petracca, Hogan etc. Talent, competetiveness plus leadership.

Yes it's true. The afl own it all. The clubs gave it all to the afl commission when it was formed in 89......

There is a strong argument to say that games played is not the best way of comparing because more time is given to high draft picks to come good. Watts is maybe a good example. Its hypothetical of course but if Watts was pick 52 I doubt he would have lasted at Melbourne.or any club.

Really? What a moronic statement
-
Because we are running short of spots and he is possibly a good depth player

All these arguments about we earned it are just bulltish. Carllton didn't earn 6 Friday night games and 2 Saturday night games this year. Carlton didn't 'earn' the fact that they haven't played at Geelong since last century. The AFL do what they want and we need to rage about it. The comp will never be equal until they fix this crud.

What an unbelievably misguided post.

Its not tougher than anyone else. He is fringe at best I reckon. I would be sure that he knows where he stands....

Wow there's a generalisation if ever I have heard one. Maybe they just work harder or is there some magic potion they sprinkle on their kids?

What a shockingly uninformed comment. Round 23 on a Sunday (Fathers Day) at 1:10pm against a pathetic club like GWS in a year when we had played poorly in the second half. Great scheduling. But keep blaming your fellow supporters who pay their money for memberships each year. I buy 6 memberships each year and if I choose not to go its none of your stinking business. Maybe I might not buy memberships next year and see how the club goes.

No we don't. That is farked logic. It is our right as a fundamental tenet of the competition to have an equitable draw. Stop the bulltish about 'we have to earn it'. It is incredibly difficult to improve our financial position when we don't have marqee games, friday night games, games against crowd drawing Melbourne clubs, televised games in peak time etc. As it stands West Coast and Coll spend $300k a week - a week - more than us on their footy departments. That is massive in terms of player development, recover, training methods, coaching etc. They get that because the have better stadium deals, get more televised games etc. The current system simply entrenches the existing status quo. 7 out of the last 9 grand findals have been won by 3 teams. If that is equalisation, I'll eat my hat. The competition is rigged. Even Carlton had 6 Friday night games and 2 Saturday night games this year, totally undeserved. We need to fight for an equitable draw and better stadium deals to get on a level playing field.

We don't play Carlton until round 22 We don't play Geelong till round 23 Its beyond a joke.
-
10 Sunday games. OMG
-
Two games against the Aint's at Etihad. Thats farked 2 home games at the MCG on a Saturday afternoon.
-
Great, we play Port in Darwin and then Hawks straight after. 130pt loss coming up

Please you can't be serious...? You're basing your opinion on training reports? And that he has dropped off his standards?? Holy cow. What kind of assessment is that? Have you been to training and seen this with your own eyes? Have you heard anyone at the club say that? Finally, "you'll be watching the way he attacks the upcoming pre-season". Is that reading training threads? If you don't see his name does that mean he isn't trying? Or will you be attending all the training sessions to make a considered opinion?

The AFL are technically a signatory to player contracts but the club is the one that employs the players etc. It is standard to include everyone in a writ like this. The AFL would rely on its procedures and policies and the fatc that it has club Directors and staff that are responsible for such things.

It was me.... I said that....
-
Can they rookie Mitchie?
-
But not a bad idea. 'We think you can make it and will give you a go but you need to improve quickly'. Beats guys like Danny Hughes hanging around for 6 or 7 yrs for less than a handful of games.....

Every team that gets beaten by Melbourne is "IN CRISIS"!!!!!
