Brayshaw and vdb were both training yesterday apparently....as was JKH

Recollections can be funny things. I just went back through some of the phantom drafts and Oliver was hardly mentioned. Paige Cardona had him at 24. Quayle did have in in at 4 in her final draft but before that hardly mentioned him I think..

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS
jnrmac replied to Demanding Success's topic in Melbourne Demons
The club was rapt that it got Toumpas who the football community in general rated highly. What it shows me now is that our recruiting is so much more targeted. We have non-negiotiable attributes like football IQ and skills, competitiveness, body size and then look at positions that can be played, coachability, family background (ha ha $cully would never get in) etc. We are less likely to be concerned about where the mock drafts and other experts rate players. We rely on our own analysis. The club has hardly put a foot wrong since the days of Lucas Cook, Gysberts, Strauss and Toumpas. I have always believed the pressure on a club to go with the orthodox picks in the top 5 or 6 is huge. Number 1 for example has been average since Hodge IMO. ANd a raft of good players have come at pick 7. I reckon in years gone by we would never have picked Oliver but we wanted him and went out of our way to ge the picks to get him. Great stuff. -
MFC 2016 Membership - Record Broken. Next stop: 40,000
jnrmac replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
That aint going to happen. MCC members pay $900 a year for their rights. -

Where do you get the free kick break down?
-
Ignored by the MRP. The GC player that collected Viney's head with his hip got looked at but got off. He will be going in for surgery to repair his hip this week.
-
Very interesting. Wow, What;s to hide? I wonder if they have checked whether he has betting accounts?
-
When the game was live in the first half, Harmes played very well. 14 possessions in the 1st quarter alone.
-
He's in the thick of things. He can hardly avoid contact. And besides he is fearless and clearly loves contact they will soon learn to get out of his way. Love it.
-
Shocking bet. You pay for two and they pay half of your bill.
-
The only video I have seen doesn't show that. It shows Hickey pretty much stationary with his arm out fending off Goldstein. It doesn't change my post above though. If you are going to pay contact in a ruck contest you will have 70 ruck frees a game. As usual its about consistent interpretation. Maybe they have to go back to two guys running and jumping with no standing next to each other.

Frankly who cares what the paid mouthpieces are saying. It's like a child saying look at me, look at me. Craving some kind of respect. We have beaten no-one (well , maybe GWS) and I'd be far happier for us to stay out of the media and the limelight and let our performances do the talking. We are coming from a long way back in terms of respect. Let's not be arrogant tossers because as we have shown this season, we can put in a shocker every few weeks. Let this team develop winning habits and good training standards without fanfare.

Who is likely to move into Goodwin's seat at years end?
jnrmac replied to SPC98's topic in Melbourne Demons
You need to refresh your coaching team regularly. We can't continue with the same team. Look at Richmond. No changes to their support coaching staff. They are bereft of ideas. -

Nah just the stupid handball in the first quarter that cost us a goal. In a real game. -
Just sayin.... Great work from Harmes. Well deserved. Worked hard when the heat was on in the 1st qtr especially

Thought I would just big myself up....

Another in a long line of brain fades if you ask me. -

WTF? Aside from disagreeing with your 2nd sentence it doesn't make sense. If he was a smart footballer then he would know what to do and play that way. If he had coaching desires he would be an on-field coach. He's in the leadership group but was dropped. Why do you think that was? And why do you think he would walk into a coaching role at the club? I am flummoxed by your post.
