  1. Absolute nonsense, Dawes gets an easy run back into the side after doing nothing. Hello, Dunn and Pedersen? Would like to see Newton get another crack even though he has flaws
  2. We really haven't had much consistent form or leadership from senior guys this season. Jones and Vince aren't as often "the guys" anymore as we've given more midfield time to younger players but one week they're looking like stars and then the next they've lost their appetite and are looking clueless with the ball. No Dunn or Garland in defence. Lumumba and Pedersen have barely gotten on the park. Garlett was dropped and has gone missing more often this season. The bulk of the work is really given to guys <25, who are a talented bunch, but it seems like the guys who are meant to be leading the way don't want to be involved. So it's hard to know where we go from here, do we erase the trace of the past and get even younger? Or persist with older guys?. (or maybe look for some in the offseason) I'd give Dunn and Lumumba (if fit) another shot but I don't know what the quickest way to being a good side is.
  3. Seems to me we're running out of gas. We shot out of the gates V the Saints, dominated the ball and laid brutal tackles, so I don't know if it's a matter of pacing ourselves. Last quarters against St.Kilda, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Port and Sydney have shown this, and Darwin we could do no more than chip it around for the last quarter. We really need some good kicking to break the lines (Vince is capable, but always settles for short kicks) and some leading targets.
  4. I think we're still good enough to win 3/the last 6. It's been a tough season. We really had a great chance to place ourselves as a contender in the first few rounds but I think after the first Saints game our hopes diminished greatly. We've had a fair few games where we've been within reach at the start of the final quarter and lost quite comfortably.
  5. Well at times he needs to. He has the size and running capacity so he should be applying more forward pressure
  6. He can find the ball in the back half but I think he should be using his physicality more as a defensive forward. Seriously, we may as well get Dunn back in the team even if it's solely for kicking in duties
  7. Yeah Hogan had a massive chance to turn the game around but in the end it was a poor game by him. It also turned early in the 2nd when it was a bit of a stalemate and we were running and Brayshaw got caught because of a poor use of handballing and the Saints got one on the rebound I think
  8. We turned into a bunch of soft onlookers today, Viney was the only guy who looked like he wanted a contest for 4 quarters. N.Jones was really disappointing in this regard, it didn't look like he wanted to be around the ball First quarter was some of the best ball movement by us I've seen for a while and we were laying some vicious tackles but guys like Kent, Kennedy, Hunt, Garlett, Vandenberg really fell away as the game went on. Once we lost the lead players started running back behind the mark The disposal in our back half is embarrassing, not convinced about Wagner yet and White really isn't a ball handler We dominated possession in the first quarter and to good use but by the time the Saints got their fair share they looked cleaner than us. Petracca looked really promising as a marking forward, which is where I think he should be spending the majority of his time. Gawn showed more potential as a forward but he needs to get better at getting in front of packs and marking at a high point. He was caught a few times from memory, but Brayshaw's return was pretty positive. Good job by Harmes too. Pretty soft 34 possessions for Bernie and a bunch of loopy little nothing kicks We're too caught up about spacing the field but we're forgetting to provide leads. Tackling is a big deficiency in Hogan's game
  9. Must get Dunn back for at least a bit more maturity/stability in the back half
  10. Absolutely shocking today. Saw him standing extremely far away from the ball in the 2nd or 3rd and picked up some cheap ones in the back pocket in the final term. Where has that desire gone? His fantastic streak of a few years for us means very little if he can't keep providing that effort as the players around him get better and we're good enough to win consistently
  11. The Daniher years will always mean more to me than the Roos years. We needed Roos badly but in return he hasn't always seemed overly attached to us because his tenure was outlined from the start. Just depends how our current list turns out, I may think more fondly if so
  12. I can't believe how free Riewoldt got last game. It was absolutely insane. For our sake I hope he's a little ginger because his fitness is on the next level compared to our players. TMac got really lost and I don't think anyone else wanted to pick him up
  13. If you look at their list now, in 2-3 years they should. It's their older guys that are still the game changers. Mitchell, Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson are all 32-33 and are practically their 4 best players. They don't seem to have the young talent that other clubs do. However, FA means everyone will want to play for them.
  14. I was under the impression that he's more of an old fashioned Ruckman. He's definitely 'ready to go' for a 21 year old big, just unsure how effective he'd be with Max.
  15. Really knows how to bounce back from poor games does Dean. Not that he's had many. Very consistent goal kicker (12 games in a row with 1+). I remember when he debuted he was just one of the Deans, but now his indisputably the #1 Dean, taking the throne from Dean Cox.
  16. Gee suddenly we've got a decent set of emergencies! Not sure if White and Matt.J will remain regulars in the team, but at the moment we definitely need more run even if we sacrifice skill and decision making a little (Grimes and Matt Jones fall into this group) Very happy for Gus too and I hope he can revisit some of the stuff he was doing last year. I think at the moment only 2 of Petracca/Brayshaw/Oliver will be picked due to their fitness/team balance. I think Petracca should be spending more time inside 50 though and trying to use his body to take marks when the midfield is a bit packed
  17. Came here to see if anyone would be picking apart anything miniscule. Completely belonged out there tonight. Great at finding space and linking up
  18. There seem to be a series of factors other than ladder position that suggest we won't win, but I'm hoping tonight can just be a "professional" win Are there any gatherings of fans at venues for interstate games these days?
  19. I think TMac would be better, Freo barely have one tall in their forward line.
  20. Bringing a big team to Darwin would've been an absolute disaster. We have to make sure we avoid that period in the 2nd half where we concede about 5 goals in 7 minutes which always seems to happen when we play in NT.
  21. I find it funny how Cross was given such a reception last year like we'd never see him again and now he's hidden in plain sight as a runner. Surely he still gets an urge to intercept a mark at half back when delivering messages to players
  22. Now that concussion is starting to threaten careers, I wonder how long until a player's susceptibility to it will put them down the draft (if they have measures of testing it that is)
