  1. Last year at Gosch's paddock the crowd was fantastic, on a weekday. No BBQ but people were the whole way around the fence. The location is the issue. Given such a small percentage of Dees supporters live out that far, it takes up too large a chunk of the day for a non-weekend
  2. Melbourne version: It's a grand old city, we can't play, what a pity, it's the emblem that changes intermittently, it's the emblem of, the team we tolerate, the team of which others think differently. Every heart beats occasionally, depending on the occasion, for we are Melbourne, the club, the persuasion. Should old habits finally die hard, keep your eye on 2016.
  3. We need the trumpeter back, or maybe even a full orchestra, some kind of live, raw music to get people's spirits up. Also some fan interaction thing like free beers if you correctly guess the first goalkicker through some smart phone app.
  4. The least they could do is ensure that matchups between teams are fairly split (home and away) over a period of time. Of course, this is never a problem for the teams who always play each other twice a year. Something like Essendon's 9 out of last 10 games against us have been their home games, Carlton is now 4 in a row, Richmond 3, and I think Geelong were 6/7 up until last season
  5. The last couple of years have proved that easy fixtures don't help us, though. Most of our worst recent games have been against interstate sides at the G
  6. It's the second year in a row we play Hawthorn, Essendon, Richmond and Carlton all once, all away at the G, Seriously? At least we play 2 of those + Collingwood away on Saturday afternoons as well as the Friday night Richmond game, we have some decent time slots. But we should get our fair share of decent home games like every other Victorian club does. If we are gonna play all those clubs just once every year, why can't the home team alternate? It's not giving much value for members or making us much money. Plus, we can't even beat interstate teams at the G anymore, it's not an advantage. Also, I hate the 3:20 sunday slot, our Round 23 match has the potential to be the biggest piece of rubbish a professional sport has ever seen
  7. Would prefer if the Dogs game was earlier, I doubt heat will be an issue on the day. I'll probably go regardless though
  8. We played a horrible brand of football under him, he picked apart the team until it was hardly recognisable. Several players looked like they had stopped enjoying playing. We lost plenty of fans at the MCG with his conservative, joyless approach to footy. This was a huge contrast to how it was in 2010-2011 up until 186. Neeld was meant to put the club back on its feet but he just sucked the life out of it. He was certainly sold well by those who picked him for the gig, but wow, at the end of the day it goes down as a massive black mark in football history. He really didn't convince me as a coach, or man. Unless the guy had a ventriloquist or there is a God, I'll certainly blame him.
  9. Unsure if he'll ever play for us again, at this rate. But I am sure of where his heart lies
  10. This does nothing for me, I want something that speaks to supporters and acknowledges what we've endured together. We don't play under lights in front of roaring, packed crowds. Then again, those who market will probably try every idea under the sun until we become a strong team again. However it does perfectly capture the nature of most young footy fans, attached to devices all the time
  11. I hear we're playing GWS in Canberra in Round 2. Predictable. I wish they could be a bit more inventive with the fixture. At least we have the Round 4 clash against Richmond. Fair enough if it's their home game given we always have Queen's Birthday as ours, to me the game will be bigger than QB. Already counting down to it
  12. Thursday Carlton v Richmond Saturday Melbourne v Gold Coast Sydney Swans v Essendon Brisbane Lions v Collingwood Western Bulldogs v West Coast Sunday St Kilda v Greater Western Sydney Adelaide v North Melbourne Fremantle v Port Adelaide Monday Hawthorn v Geelong We are playing Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon
  13. Interested in our ruck situation. I'd like Gawn to play a full year but I also think Jamar still has some decent footy left. Giving Gawn's not a great relief ruckman/forward that makes it difficult though. If Frost fails early then we'll probably have Pedersen as backup in defence. As for our midfield, Cross is a must, and I agree Grimes should start the year out of the team (unless he's on fire in the preseason) and work for a spot
  14. A perfect opening would be a home game V Essendon on Saturday afternoon. Perfect occasion to pump the players and fans up, plus it's literally always Essendon's home game against us every damn year (with the exception of 2010). I reckon the AFL have been kind to us for many years in Round 1 though, since 1998 (the last time we went interstate), 14/16 of them have been at the MCG and 2 at Etihad.
  15. We'll have the personnel to win 8-10 games but it's up to whether we can muster a convincing, healthy team together and play like one. Our belief was shot in the final moments of our Port Adelaide (x2) and Bulldogs (x2) matches. All I wish is for us to leave nothing in the tank in Round 1, throw everything at it, no matter who we're playing. Our last 3 years, our opening 3 rounds have been atrocious. I just want us to already look like a team once the ball's bounced in the opening game
  16. It disallows many young players to make meaningful impressions, but sometimes if they make a really good impression they may become a "specialist sub" which also limits their career. It would've been much better for their development if JKH, Salem and Kent could've tried to do something from the start rather than get 3 possessions in the last quarter when we're 10 goals down
  17. Interesting to note that the top 4 played all 22 games, but Cross only 17.
  18. I think most of us would agree Grimes had a poor year
  19. Fewer people were saying that when Terlich and M.Jones finished in the top 5 last year. It had more of a 'making up the numbers' feel to it
  20. Don't think Bernie in the top 3 was a given. But still, at his best he was magnificent, stood out in some games
  21. Wasn't Hogan on briefly? That must've gone off quickly
