  1. I agree with Ox and tequila. Miller was teriffic IMO, worked hard all day and didnt get the rewards until the last qtr. Was outclassed and outnumbered all day. Carrol was also thrown to the wolves. Playing on Pavlich is tough any time let alone when your best 3rd man up defender in Jared Rivers is out and our best small defender is off after the first qtr.
  2. Can someone please answer why a team with a lack of goal scoring options would not play a proven goal scorer out of the goal square against a team he has torched in the past? Forget form etc etc, he has kicked bags in the past and without Neitz and Robbo it was only logical he would play there at least at first. To not even try it to me is ludicrous. Does anyone agree?
  3. Based on your cant kick cant play summation we'd be dropping half the team following what I have seen the last 2 weeks. Seeya later to Bruce, Carrol, Ward and Bate just for starters. Godders and Brown were both easily in our top 5 on Monday and are 2 of a few that can hold their heads up high and say they gave it their all. Dropping them would be the completely wrong message at this stage. skill is not enough you also need to work hard and when your back is against the wall I would rather have unskilled workers than lazy professionals
  4. Didn't we lose to Carlton in rd 1 last year? A team who managed 2 more wins for the year, another against Melbourne of course. Then we were smashed by the Dogs at the dome in rd 2. I think we were just as bad last year as this year. The difference this year is that we are now facing several weeks without our captain, next captain and spearhead. We also have our most experienced available for selection player getting easy kicks in VFL, our hard nosed middle aged recruit substituting gatorade for VB in the qtr breaks at TBO and TJ and Flash walking around looking like cheech and chong. We are screwed but the on field performances are no worse than last year at this stage. That being said I think we can forget beating the Cats on Sunday but if we can get the team to put in 4 qtrs of honest work without the stupid frees and 50s and actually get some drive out of our supposedly better players that will be an improvement and give us a real chance to shake a win in round 4. Sometimes it only take 1 win to get a team going. Hopefully based on that you will be able to tell that I have no idea if the glass is half empty or half full, and with melbourne who really does.
  5. Australia V England the other night. 2 massive LBW shouts against Gilchrist and Hayden early in the innings refused when they were plumb, well one at least. Against the poms. you gotta love it
  6. They wear white and run backwards for a reason. Anyone seen the video email of the soccer referre that thinks he is Barishnakov? They alll have a bit of this in them. Its Flair for umpires, they dont get to do handstands or celebrate goals like the players do so they bring some melodrama to their signalling. Billy Bowden has even destroyed the genlteman's game with it.
  7. Slander, I agree with your selections and admire your optimism but to me that side on paper looks like it will struggle to kick 10 goals. Unforturnately with our current injuries it gets no better. FWIW Yze to FF, tore the Cats a new one last year at KP and took mark of the year (IMO). Might be the memory he needs o get him going. P.S. i thought G Lyons comment re: Ooze in todays HUN to be a decent summation and worth a read.
  8. Out - Melbournes laziness, weak mindset & general lack of heart In - Sandringhams confidence, heart and never say die attitude. Method - Who the F knows
  9. It doesn't matter what you call it or how you serve it or even what you garnish it with. If it smells like crap, looks like crap and tastes like crap then it probably is crap. Take from that whatever you like. Tata for now!
  10. like it. in fact print and frame i we may never see another optimistic article about MFC again
  11. 26 touches, 2 goals and more inprotantly 12 tackles. Right or wrong he will be in red and blue in round 1 agains the Aints
  12. Agree rhino. The thought of poor Neita being ripped a new one by J Brown or B Hall doesn't sound like a nice way to serenade one of our greatest ever players into retirement.
  13. quote name='Toad33' date='Mar 8 2007, 09:44 PM' post='60491'] I believe the club, like all others, is chasing a premiership....... There is more to the football club than the team. Gaining the ultimate team success by giving up draft picks may not be in the clubs best interest for future financial success. Put another way. Sacrificing the mid term future for short term gain could end up in longer term pain.
  14. If you watched the Carlton game on saturday night you will have noticed Lance sporting a black eye. My sources are telling me he got into a fight with Shane on friday night that saw him on the recieving end of a broken nose and a subsequent black eye. So all is not settled in the whitnall family
  15. I tend to agree that the gamblers have been smashed in the chops while the drug users (recreational for the sake of argument) have been deemed worthy of several chances. The rules are definitely contradictory and something the players association need to address. On a more serious and potentially sad note. Despite what people may think of Daniel Ward football is his career and his method of feeding his family and paying his bills. I have no doubt he is ashamed of his problem and regrets the damage it has caused however 12 weeks on the sidelines is almost certain to kill his career as a senior footballer. Being a keen MFC supporter I would hope that a player who hasn't played senior football for 12 weeks would find it hard to make a team running into a finals campaign. The AFL needs to consider their sanction giving thought to the fact that they are almost certainly putting paid to the mans job and career. A job he will need now more than ever to get his life back on track both mentally and financially
  16. Rhino, Customer Details lists are worth a fortune in a marketing saturated world. Big businesses are willing to pay big $ for specific information that allows them to pick and choose the demographic they can market too. With this announcement potentially doubling our directly mailed audience sponsors will look at us as a much more marketable brand. An obvious example is the MFC magazine. The sponsor ads contained within the magazine can now potentially reach as many as 45000 directly (god knows how many indirectly) people and further into a key demogrqaphic than before. The 35 - 65 Male profressional/semi-retired audience common within the MCC. The demogrqaphic most likely to puchase BMWs and Rolexs
  17. If Petrie and Leigh Brown can be serviceable big men at both ends of the ground so can Miller. Just needs the right training and motivation
  18. Personally i didn't mind the run and carry handball game. i agree they over did it yesterday but add in the pace of Davey and Whelan and the creativity of Pickett and Johnstone and I think it will work. However what they should be trying to do is use the run and carry from defence to about 75 out where you want to get the ball in the hands of Johnstone, Davey or Green to hit a leading robbo or neitz on the chest. However this style will prove difficult for Miller who is best leading to the wings taking the ball the comes out defensive 50. not gonna happen with this game plan. they may consider moving him back to defense after a couple of unsuccessful weeks where, hopefully, he can make an impact. If he doesn't however dont be suprised if he ends up at another club as a serviceble (not star) KPP ala Leigh Brown (for example)
  19. Good point Clint, i agree. I am also of the belief that coaches, just like any other profession, can lose form so to speak with age. Just like a footballer whose best years might be 25-31 a coaches best years might be 40-55 (for example) after that they potentially start to decline. Maybe the game goes past them, they lose touch with new methods, not sure exactly but I think statistics might back this up. Malthouse and Pagan are good examples although with regard to Pagan ll sorts of mitigating circumstances abode.
  20. Agree wholeheartedly Fan. If Dunn can offer as strong a contest across CHF with bigger and stronger CHBs on him that Miller before seasons end, while I will be very happy i will be totally surprised. Having said that Dunn is very close to best 22 and will only need a good showing in the NAB cup to prove it. IMO He does have a role to play in the side with or without Miller at CHF. Meanwhile Miller is definitely best option CHF first up. If he turns into a blubbering mess by round 3 or 4 the coaching staff will have to deal with it then.
