  1. Who cares if he's better than Maric? Both will be delisted; it's not a choice between Maric and Wonaeamirri. Aussie's obviously got a lot to offer as a player, but senior list spots are like gold. I really feel for the guy with what he's been going through, but this is a tough business and the club can't wait forever. I agree with the delist and rookie listing approach. The player still gets full support from the club and the bills paid for another year, and the club can still harness the player if he's able to get it together mentally and physically without being a player down if he can't. This is the best result to be had in an unfortunate situation.
  2. When? He's 25 and has played 105 games of AFL football - by law of averages he's over half way through his career. I love Sylvia as a player, but it's clear that he's lacking when it comes to being disciplined. He hasn't got enough self control on or off the field to be in the frame as captain. And? Being a really good player is just one box to be ticked for captain, and it's probably the least important box. If we'd done it your way, Jeff Farmer would've been our captain in 2000. How would Sylvia go on these criteria? - Complete professionalism, at all times, all year round? - Thorough attitude towards training and recovery? - Self-discipline on and off the field? - Unwavering respect from his teammates? - Able to effectively communicate with the group? - Able to effectively communicate with the media?
  3. Trengove for me, and this is a vote way outside my normal line of thinking. I normally wouldn't be a fan of appointing one so young to lead the club, but I have zero confidence in any of our true senior players. Absolute zero. Until this year I'd always thought/hoped that our over 25s would be able to nurse the club through until one of the true leaders was ready, but that delusion has been well and truly quashed this year. Like the coaching team, the leadership group still reek of the muck that got splashed when 186 happened. They all have to go. To that end I think Trengove is the most qualified of the under 25s: plays in the manner I'd expect of a leader, speaks articulately and has leadership experience at a junior level. Seems like the sort of bloke I'd want to follow. I'm not sure that he's "born" for it like the likes of Carey and Voss as Hannabal touched on, but given the dire state of leadership at our club I'm desperate enough to find out. Others like Frawley just don't seem like the right fit for me. I like Grimes but it would be crazy to appoint a captain whose career as a whole hasn't settled yet. If I absolutely had to settle for one of our over 25s, it would grudgingly be Moloney for me. If it were any of the others I'd be livid.
  4. This about sums it up for me too. The lack of an independent is an issue. Laughable that anyone thinks the CEO doesn't belong on the panel.
  5. Jarka, did you have a look a Darcy's article? My response would've been the same as yours until I read it. Of course it's just one view, but I doubt we are likely to read anything more insightful. Just proved to me what I had already known; most footy fans (me especially) wouldn't have a clue when it comes to these things.
  6. You might as well stop watching then. I suggest starting this week.
  7. How long do I need to remain on "haven't posted in the Scully thread" wagon before I'm allowed to post in here? Or are obvious fence jumpers like rpfc and e25 welcomed with open arms?
  8. This is the thing that gives me the irrits about this. Any old rumourmonger in the media is considered gospel, but the word straight from the horse's mouth isn't good enough. Also, I'm not sure why I'm posting this as I'm pretty sure I've posted the same thing about 10 times in this thread now. How long do I have to remain sober for before I'm allowed to post in the "not a Scully" thread?
  9. Given that the club will want to offload the contracted Bate and possibly the contracted Dunn, it's unlikely that they'll also offload the contracted Bartram. From a list management POV you want limit of contracted players you show the door to. And there's absolutely no way known the club will retain Warnock. Uncontracted player who has played the last two years at Casey. When spots are at a premium (which they always when list sizes are fairly small) and you're 26 and can't get a game, then you'll be the first whose name gets the pen through it. And would Warnock even want to stay to play out another year at Casey? Addam Maric will be name number two crossed off the list. Those are the no-brainer decisions. After that is when it gets interesting. I'm assuming Sylvia, Morton and Scully will all be re-signed. Where I'm interested in is what we do with the contracted deadweight. Bate is certainly gone - there's just no way we can carry him for another year if we're not intending to play him, contracted or not. If it were up to me I'd send Dunn the same way, but I don't expect that the club will agree unless we can somehow engineer a trade, and I don't see that happening.
  10. In terms of leadership I'm unsure that there is a backwards from where we currently are. Proven leaders would be nice, but they come at a cost. They rarely move clubs at all, and when they do, they require heaven and earth to be moved in the process. The next best option is to fast track the babies we have in to leaders. The only other option - and the worst option - is to maintain the status quo and have the same mob lead us next year. Edit: Not that I'd consider Fevola leadership...
  11. Does he push us in to flag contention?
  12. I bet Carlton and Brisbane are kicking themselves that they didn't think of this.
  13. Yeah. I can just see it now: "So, how are you travelling this preseason?" "Yeah, nah, we're really struggling actually. Most of us just really can't be arsed putting in the hours - far too much Playstation to be played. I reckon we're really going to stink it up this year, truth be told."
  14. You could, and you'd be right. But guess what? At least two and possibly all three of them will be given the toss come end of year. Already having cloggers on the list is not a reason to add more cloggers to the list. Given that Fevola will be finished when we're a premiership threat, I just don't see the point. You add risk AND block development for no plausible gain that I can see.
  15. Out: Howe In: Fevola How about it folks? Fev's already getting in the way of critical player development as it is. He'll just be further in the road if he's in the senior team. He's also thirty something. Even if we ignore his off-field antics completely, from a footy point of view it doesn't make any sense.
  16. Howe and Blease were the biggest positives. Both of these two gave me that feeling of confidence that something good was going to happen when they got near it. It's obvious to see what the charm was in recruiting Blease - he's a jet but more importantly, knows how to get the ball (contrast this to Bennell, who is also a jet but isn't involved enough). His kicking today was a bit "funny", but it was game #2 and it was a game when the team in general kicked poorly. Plenty to build on. If Howe had kicked that sitter it would've almost been a complete forward's game. He's a very reliable mark, I was just always so confident that he'd grab it when it went nearby. It was probably the first game where he was the main focus and he shone. Great stuff. The other positive I thought was the back line. This is the only area of the ground that looks close to being the finished product for mine. Frawley and Garland are just class, and I'm very happy with Macdonald, Blease and Tapscott as the support cast. Rivers was good today too, but by "window time" I'd like to see him produce this level consistently, or get passed by the hatchlings in McDonald or Davis. I'd be happy with either outcome. Obviously the result was poor but it wasn't all bad today.
  17. Until probably three weeks ago I'd have said yes. Now I'm firmly in the "let's just wrap up the Bailey era ASAP and not dwell on it any further" camp.
  18. 6. Howe 5. Macdonald 4. Trengove 3. Frawley 2. Petterd 1. Garland Thought Blease's game was very promising also.
  19. I remember that game as being one of the most enjoyable losses I've ever watched. That was the game where Wheaters booted it to the centre every time he took the kick out - for no reason other than for fun from what I could tell. To me it was no pressure to win (obviously) and no pressure to lose (unlike the previous week where it took a fairly monumental effort to lose) as the Saints should've beaten us easily on merit. Just fun footy to watch.
  20. Wow, okay then. One of Jetta's biggest strengths is his tackling and general ferocity. He averages 3.5 tackles per game; this is more than Nathan Jones or Brent Moloney (the only two I compared against). He'll never be a great player, but it's not for any of the reasons you've listed there.
  21. That was Jordie McKenzie. Furthermore Adelaide were offering him a spot when he was still on our rookie list. Jordie's response? No thanks, I'm happy here and I'll stay on the rookie list so Melbourne can draft another player. I'd like to take this opportunity to say I love Jordie McKenzie. Again.
  22. As far as I can tell it's a token thing.
