  1. Where are the dozens of posts accusing this guy of having an agenda? Yeah I know, petty, churlish, cheap shot in a thread where this doesn't belong. Ban me if you want.
  2. You're letting your emotions get the better of you. There's nothing to gain from this proposal other than messing with the young man's head. He's been given his one shot at a career, the last thing he should be doing is spending a precious season thinking about being elsewhere. He needs to focus. We say thanks anyway, we wish him well, we shut the door behind him.
  3. haha, going on a 4am bender when his future career is clearly already on the rocks before it's even started. The kid doesn't want it. Forget about him and move on.
  4. Pavlich, Salmon... and all in the rookie draft! Yeah yeah I know nobody is claiming he'll reach those heights, but still I can't help but chuckle at the ridiculous comparisons.
  5. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2012-12-11/just-trying-to-get-my-thoughts-together What a bittersweet moment. He's obviously a loyal type of guy if he's formed that much of a bond with the boys already. I expect once he walks through the door at Freo and gets in to training and really gets in to it he'll be just as happy there as he was with us. I guess at the end of the day he'll be living the dream even if it didn't quite pan out the way we all thought it would. Jeez I feel robbed, but amused at the same time. That's how the system works, so no point dwelling on it too much. Good luck Jack.
  6. Indeed. Players cost more than just their draft pick number; getting Garlett would not have been "cheap" even if they'd taken him with their last pick in the rookie draft. We took Liam Jurrah in the PSD, does anyone think that came cheaply? Increasingly we'll see players with obviously poor attitude and/or behavior get overlooked. Personally I wouldn't even bother looking at this guy again until his mid 20s. It wouldn't surprise me if he can get temporarily get himself together for a year and convince everyone he's changed, but I'd want at *least* three years of solid, mature behavior before I even had a look.
  7. My browsing time is too sporadic sorry. I tend to hold these things up. Also, I can't really be bothered.
  8. Calls it as she imagines it more like it. Anyway, this was a really interesting and insightful article, but of course it's not sensationalist or controversial so it won't get the same attention that other junk got.
  9. So do I. There are a lot of people guilty of it in this thread. It's why I've involved myself in it when I'd normally just observe. I'm just trying to see the link between that and moderating the forum; you explicity mentioned moderators bias, so I assumed there must be a reason.
  10. ...because usually when a company with a turnover the size of ours registers a profit the size we have, it usually is because the books have been manipulated. I've seen first hand the level of manipulation that goes on in companies with big turnovers to ensure a particular threshold is crossed when it's borderline. It isn't even accusing the board of anything sinister; this is common practice. It happens all the time. I'd expect the board to do it. It is simply pointing out that the profit doesn't tell the entire story, and it doesn't. This view is borne out of business experience, not out of an unreasonable bias for mine.
  11. I apologise If it was brusque, it was unintentional. I tend to be overly blunt when expressing opinion and I have to self-manage it, but sometimes I fail. It comes from being an anti-social nerd My point was that I don't believe that holding a strong opinion precludes someone from performing moderator duties, so long as they don't start breaking the rules when expressing them, or lose sight of what's appropriate behavior in others. I understand your point that holders of extreme opinions most probably will lose sight of that, but I don't think it's a given or an obvious contradiction as you suggest. Jack is Whispering_Jack, co-owner of the site. The man I consider to be the "managing director" of Demonland.
  12. Is that really a question for me...? Edit: I've entered this discussion on the assumption that B-H was talking about Fan here, but I get the impression you guys are talking about Rhino? I haven't read his contributions in this thread.
  13. You can, and I haven't suggested otherwise. But like anyone else, I reserve the right the call you on it if I don't agree. The moderators' job on this forum is to ensure topics remain civil and readable, so yes, so long as the moderator does that then he has the right to whatever opinion he wants. If a moderator isn't doing that, take it up with Jack.
  14. If nothing else, Clackline is a ripping name for a town.
  15. I'd expect a moderator to be objective when it comes to making decisions on what is and isn't appropriate content for the forum, but I take the view that a moderator can hold whatever opinion they like on topical matters, no matter how extreme.
  16. I think that's true for both sides of this discussion. In this case, I can't see why so many have flipped their wigs over Fan's comments. They're rational and grounded, as far as I can see do not seek to heroize the previous board or slander the existing one (Fan didn't even mention either board; WYL brought it up), and most of all, make complete sense. It's not a message of doom either, if I took one message away from it, it would be "we've got a lot of work to do still". And don't we? Too many in this thread are looking at who is delivering the message and not the message that is being delivered. The reactions from some members of this forum have been completely over the top.
  17. Why is that annoying? Surely moderators are as entitled to an opinion, an affiliation or even a bias as anyone else? If it's completely impartial, opinion free moderators you're after, the position will be permanently vacant.
  18. Yes, I used to see the council guy with the leaf blower every day and wondered whether that was his only task for the day, or...? It's hard to imagine a more menial, low responsibility job. Maybe it's the job for me when I win div 1 in the lottery and just need something to do to pass the time.
  19. I'm in the same boat, old dee - IE is forced upon me at work.
  20. Yes, Anderson has stood down...
  21. Not sorry to see the back of this guy to be frank. That role is largely considered to be heir to the throne, and a number of bungles have his signature on it, including the witch hunt we're being subjected to. I'd hate to have him in charge of our game.
  22. I'm numb too, the continual lurching between excitement and disappointment burned me out ages ago. That's why if he plays out of his skin and then leaves this year I'd laugh, it's just so predictable that I wouldn't be able to help it. I would certainly expose where his true priorities lie.
  23. Haha, it seems so predicable doesn't it? If that's how it turns out, I don't think I'd be able to do anything other than laugh.
  24. Yes, they get to name their wages. By drafting them, you're automatically agreeing to their terms with regards to payment, there's no further agreement to be had.
  25. Maybe they don't want to take him because he's revealed himself to be a complete flog with a psychopathic father. Given they apparently passed on Toumpas purely so they could build a list that gels quicker by taking the less talented but pre-bonded Victorian players, it doesn't seem out of the question to me.
