  1. Do you expect the 'average' supporter to intellectualise situations? I think you're giving it a depth of thought that many footy supporters couldn't be bothered with (not speaking for myself btw - I agree with you).
  2. I think everything mentioned above is about the continued existence, but the reason the two communities exist is because they both spawned from two very differing methods of online networking, back in the late 90s/early 00s and both sites were alive and vibrant by the time they both became forum based. Both are proud communities and there hasn't been any need in the past to merge the two sites.
  3. By the sounds if it, it's a wonder you haven't been banned from the footy full stop. You sound like a nutcase.
  4. I don't think I'll ever care what other supporters think of us. Truth be told, I don't even really care about what half the MFC supporters think either.
  5. Christ, they could be brothers. I hereby reserve the right to just refer to them both as "Stisby" (or "Clark", if I feel like being extra confusing).
  6. Your ability to miss the point is stunning. Do you read, or do you just post? Demonland isn't just a way of voicing your ill informed opinion, it's a great way to learn a thing or two as well. I'd start with rpfc, Ben-Hur and Fan's posts.
  7. Phew! Thank goodness they finally played Clarke, Wade, Warner et al. Definitely made them a stronger and more competitive side.
  8. He's a stock, ordinary player who has forged out a career out through competitiveness and mental strength. I admire this sort of player greatly, more than any other sort of player really, but I wouldn't go expecting any more than what we get now.
  9. 'Take it out of our hands' - Harris http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/current/story/600951.html I'm really glad to read this article. When the media is saturated with dinosaurs like Ian Chappell who is stuck in the 70s and every fast bowler in the nation understandably going "stuff this rest crap, I want to play!", it's nice to hear that at least one cricketer actually gets it.
  10. I'm not as quick to speculate on reasoning, but his fielding has been nothing short of shocking in the BBL this year from the couple of games I've seen.
  11. They probably can't keep up with the thread. Last time I opened it we were on page 64, now it's 94 95. I'm assuming nothing new came up in the 30 other pages.
  12. He still lurks every now and again - I see his name on the users online list, but it's been a long while since he's posted. Apparently he got a life. Not something I understand - since I joined Demonland I've gotten married, had four children, changed the course of my career completely. My life is chockers, but I still have time for Demonland. Finks, if you're reading this: YOU'RE SOFT!
  13. So, I joined this thread in page 5. I'm lazy and can't be bothered reading pages 1-4: did it ever have anything worthwhile in it, or should I just close the thread now?
  14. Exactly. Based on pretty simple logic I'd expect them to be struggling at this point.
  15. 0/7? Goodness, at that pace, they should've made at least 70 runs.
  16. We need to be charged with something first!
  17. Yes, the timing is a bit of a bugger, but then again, when's a good time to lose one of your most experienced campaigners? I'll be sorry to see Mr Cricket go. He's been an amazing and ultra-reliable player over the years, especially when you consider he didn't make his test debut until he was 30. Like Matty Hayden he had to just keep amassing a mountain of runs at Shield level before the selectors had no choice but to pick him. He turned out to be a gem in all forms of the game as well, in that regard he was probably more versatile than any other player in era of Tests, ODIs and T20s. My hat goes off to him.
  18. I entertained the idea of Johnson as the all-rounder when pondering this last night, but then I dismissed it, because he's just not good enough with the bat. You have to look beyond one (very good) innings - his test average is 22.45 and he's scored one century in nearly 50 tests. Is that the guy to bat at 4 or 5 or 6? Bottom line is he's a bowler who is handy with the bat, but a true all-rounder he aint. I'd rather a guy in the du Plessis mould; a genuine batsman who can bowl 15 overs an innings if necessary. Watson as an opener - surely we've been there, done that. I know Cowan is B-grade and probably isn't the long term answer, but if we're going to start stuffing around with our opening then it has to be because the options we've got are genuinely better, not to go from ordinary pair to ordinary pair. Watson has proven he can't get big scores when opening the innings; I'd say that ship has well and truly sailed.
  19. These minor infractions annoy me almost as much as the major ones. It's not the fact that they went to the cricket or "played up" or were drinking while teammates were in the gym etc, it's the fact that they put themselves in a position where they could end up with bad press. Even if it is a complete media beatup - which I'm sure it is - it's really not that hard to stay out of the newspaper if you keep your brain engaged. It's just a disappointing lack of judgement for mine.
  20. It wouldn't be the first time it had been paid that way. I doubt it's ever happened in Test cricket, but it certainly has in lower levels.
  21. Did he throw the ball over the fence when he caught it? It looked like he may have on TV, but they only showed him throwing it, they didn't show where it landed. By the letter of the law it should have been six if he did.
  22. Huh? I thought Bird could only bowl well on Bellerive? It's pretty funny though, I remember listening to one of the SA tests on the radio and O'Keefe prattled on about how he didn't rate Bird at all (without offering any logical reasoning at all). Then yesterday on TV, Mark Nicholas was making Glenn McGrath comparisons. It's like reading Demonland on the off-season.
  23. Hi all, We had a bit of an oopsie with a routine software upgrade and had to restore the site from a backup, which was about 15 hours old. All posts, private messages, new registrations and so forth that happened between then and now have been lost. Apologies for the inconvience.
  24. Specifically, which whiners are attacking him? The response in this thread has been pro-Bailey, the only things that I can see that might be construed otherwise is Left Field's point that DB's primary interest is himself (whose isn't? I don't do a good job for the company I work for out of the kindness of my heart, I do it because they pay me to do so and they're the stepping stone to my next career move), and daisycutter's view that DB's words were clumsy and not particularly helpful to any of the parties. This is hardly whining or attacking. It's easy to make a sweeping, generalising, emotive post in a thread that people are passionate about and get 20 likes, but I think if you read the thread a bit more closely without pre-conceived ideas about what people are going to say, you'll see that your "some people" post is directed at nobody at all.
  25. 45HG16 did some research on this a few years ago and it turned out to be not the case at all. Compounded with the fact that as PaulRB mentioned, the teams that have been playing there have been horse poo anyway Darwin or not.
