  1. He's been talked up as pick 2. All year it's been Whitfield pick 1, Grundy pick 2, Toumpas pick 3. Whitfield will go pick 1 to GWS. GC don't need a ruckman so will take a midfielder with pick 2. Hopefully Grundy is there at pick 3, so we can snatch him up and a mid with pick 4. Jamar is still going ok. Hopefully with a good preseason he can have another season like 2010 and really have a big impact. Grundy is an ideal replacement though. Bigger than Jamar already, very aggressive, and has good pace and marking ability. He often scores as a target up forward. If we can get him as a ruckman who rotates forward, with his skill, aggression and size, we're onto a winner. He could step straight in.
  2. Martin will already be 26 next season and isn't even in the best 22 of an awful awful team. He was originally taken in the Pre-Season Draft so holds no "high draft pick" value either. Reality is getting a 2nd round pick for a VFL standard player would be daylight robbery for us. If we could get that deal done, then we should do it without a second thought.
  3. Pro-stats (the stat company the AFL uses) have Naita ranked 18th in the ruckman position for 2012. How he was picked as first ruck in the All Australian team is beyond comprehension.
  4. I love Neitz but I'm not too sure if he is AFL HOF material. He'd be close! I can't find the bump on Mccabe on youtube at all! Haven't seen it for years. Has anyone got a link?
  5. Would definitely be good to get Smith he was wanting to come home to Vic. He's got good pace, decent kicking skills and can lock down on a man. He played a few really good games for Eagles last year in the back pocket/half back flank. Koby Stevens is a pass for me. We could do better than him in the draft, and he doesn't fill a need for us IMO
  6. This. He doesn't even enter into discussions. He is a pick 4 who has more than proven his worth in two seasons. He's possibly the best young mid to come from the draft system in the last 5 years IMO. We'd have to give up pick 3+4 to get him. I do like the idea of trying to get Savage though. He has good pace and skills, and could be a dangerous player for us up forward rotating through the midfield.
  7. Get him. We need drive coming out of the backline, which is now top heavy. He provides a bit of pace and decent kicking skills. He's out of favor at Carlton because the two back flank rebounding roles belong to Yarran and Gibbs, Both are more talented and are persisted with despite inconsistent form. He's been in and out of the team due to that team balance. I think he'd be a good fit on a half back flank for us. We need some smaller defenders as we have too many talls down there. With Grimes moving into the midfield and Bartram injured and a ? on his return at this point, We are relying on Nicholson and Strauss down there. To add a 100+ gamer who's a proven small/medium size defender with decent pace, skills and ball winning ability can only be a big plus. We need senior experienced players. He fits the bill of what we need. I say we chase him.
  8. In order of need, our list requires the following to move forward: - A classy quick skilled outside midfielder (Toumpas?) - Another quick skilled outside midfielder (Kennedy?) - A quick small crumbing forward (Garlett?) - A Key forward to aid Clark (?) - Another hard inside midfielder (Viney?)
  9. Boak has now signed with Port. Mackay has signed with Adelaide. The list is shrinking, and there isn't much left that's worth chasing to be honest. This off season may be as disappointing as the season we've just had!
  10. Was a broken leg or knee injury from memory. I'd be interested to see how he's come back from that injury and developed. I have no knowledge of him after being drafted.
  11. Or run it into the ground! We'll have to wait a few years to see how it pans out, but he's certainly making some bold moves and won't die wondering. Good to see a different approach I guess! Very disappointed by this news though. Not necessarily by losing Cook, as he has shown nothing, but the fact we wasted our first pick in that draft for nothing. We could've been safe and picked 30-40 players who would've given us good service, so it was just a baffling choice and a waste that sets us back further.
  12. Best of luck for the future Brent. You've been a favorite of mine for years, and I'll miss you leading the charge for us. You've got a Bluey medal for your mantle piece and represented Australia in the International Rules. Decent effort for someone who battled chronic OP for years. I wish you success at another club after having to battle in the doldrums with us for years.
  13. Surely we can't get rid of more than 10!?! You people realize we have to fill each spot on the list? So we'd essentially be using super late draft picks and loading up on long-shot kids if we can't buy heaps of players? Not going to happen.
  14. Would be happy to have him at the club if he doesn't cost much. He was a star junior, but has had trouble adapting up there on the Gold Coast. He has been homesick and wanting to come home to Victoria to be with family. He also had a niggling ankle injury preseason which meant he isn't as fit as he should be at the moment. A healthy mind and body is what he needs. If he is back home in Vic, gets fitter over preseason, he could be a very good get for us. He has a booming kick and could become out kick-out specialist, similar to Guerra/Suckling at the Hawks. Has the talent! I'd say get him cheaply if we can!
  15. Anything less than finals next year and I'm done. I've wasted $10,000's supporting this club and donating and I'm not getting any pleasure out of it anymore. Finals is non-negotiable. It would be our seventh year out of finals if we fail again, and that would be downright pathetic. We're already a pack of losers, we need to start winning or we die. It's as simple as that.
  16. Goddard is likely going to Freo, but even if he wasn't I wouldn't touch him with a 50 foot pole. He has a poor attitude, gets frustrated with the attention he receives and lashes out at taggers, just like Aaron Davey does. He hasn't played good football since 2010 and I wouldn't rate him in the top 50players in the league based on form the last 2 years. We want someone to lead with a good attitude, not someone who cracks the shits and struggles to get a kick if he isn't played as a loose man. Plus he might be suspended to open next season due to surprise surprise lashing out at a tagger and grabbing their face repeatedly. Massive No Thanks to Goddard.
  17. I feel this way. I will renew, but I don't feel like it and do it because I know it's the right thing to do. However, I pay for 5 other memberships every year for relatives and none of them care anymore, so that is 5 memberships I'm not wasting money on anymore and renewing. As much as I love the club, this year was the worst year in my lifetime I feel, and I get no pleasure watching the team anymore. I see no passion, I see no fight, but worst of all I see no hope going forward. Back in 2010 watching our young team play I thought we'd be hitting top 4 about now. Instead we have gone backwards in 6 years of rebuilding. If it wasn't for wins over expansion teams, which I don't consider real teams, then we've had one win this year. One win. And we are last. We hold no respect from anyone because we are terrible and weak and have been for decades, but the worst part is I see no hope. I don't see how we will improve and we sure as [censored] won't be getting near a flag in the next 5-10 years. Edit: forgive typos this was typed on a phone.
  18. If he has left then it's a big loss for us. He's one of the few senior players we have above the age of 25 and one of our few players with some bulk and fight. Off field he is borderline obsessed with the club, so he must have been treated like absolute [censored] to want to walk away. It seems our culture problems still exist and if anything Neeld has taken us plummeting down the ladder and losing the players along the way. It's a sad state of affairs at our club. We're worse off now than ever before IMO
  19. If he does I'll be distraught. It'd be like missing Cotchin again
  20. We need to land Toumpas. Would be nice to also pick up one of O'Rouke, Mayes, Wines depending on where we pick up Viney. We should definitely be targeting these quality mids, and Toumpas fills exact needs for us. Pace, skill, composure, leadership, work ethic. He's the complete package and we need to get him in red n blue!
  21. If he is not in red n blue next season onwards I will be severely disappointed by an already disappointing club.
  22. Really want Toumpas in red n blue next year. I'll be [censored] if we miss out on him. He is all class!
  23. If Gysberts wound up going to Geelong, based on how they've developed midfielders this last 6-7 years, he would be AA quality within two years. It's so frustrating that we can't seem to develop players like other teams. The talent is there, we just need to harness it.
  24. As sad as it is, I actually agree. I normally say give talls time, they will show signs and develop, but neither of these guys have shown anything IMO. Even guys like Troy Davis look more likely at the moment. Cook hasnt developed physically, appears mentally fragile, and hasnt shown anything in two years to suggest he will make it. He is still struggling to cement himself in the VFL let alone playing at AFL level. Fitzy, while I admire him and like his pace and agility for a tall, just has shocking skills and I fear with all the health issues he has, will likely not make it either. We have a number of talls on the list, and I do think we should give them both another year or two to see if they come on, but I am not expecting anything and wouldn't wait any longer than that.
  25. All the best with retirement Brad. I hope he stays connected with the club beyond his playing days. He's a really good guy, always positive and upbeat. The few times I've met him he has been really friendly and up for a chat. I'll always have fond memories of 2000 and many games he played. He managed to develop really well as his career progressed. Who would've thought that skinny kid would wind up making floating back into packs for marks a trademark! I also think he is the best set shot from Melbourne in modern times. Will miss him. The whole list is pretty new and young now. Nervous times ahead!
