Great game from Cale. He heard footsteps once, and I thought , but knew he'd made the mistake and was right back in there tackling and was rewarded the free. His kicking is fantastic. His first half was abit rusty skillswise, but he sure got a feel for it by the end. I think with more weight and experience, he will be a star for us. He doesnt seem to have that cockiness that Sylvia and Mclean have, he just sort of goes about his game trying to improve, sort of like Jones but obviously minus abit of aggression and intensity. I actually hope he stays a midfielder and doesnt develop into a KPP. People will think me mad, but we will draft a big CHF eventually, and personally I think we could use a star midfielder as we havent had one in a long long time. Travis is the closest thing we've had in probably 20 years or so, with flashes from Woe and some grit from Viney etc. I want a midfielder with exquisite skills who wins games off his own boot, and Cale could be that player.

Nathan Jones- Love the enthusiasm
Lord Travis replied to Maybe next year's topic in Melbourne Demons
Jones had an average and forgettable game. Those who think he was good are kidding themselves. He tried hard, but didnt get the results. I personally have been disappointed with his season thus far. Trying hard isnt enough. If it were, then we'd have a team full of triers that would win zero games a year. Jones needs to fix his kicking mainly, but also follow his opponent closer and learn when the time to run off him is. It will all come with experience, and he will be a great player for us. His kicking isnt that bad when he takes the time to assess his options. When he ran out of defense and had a bounce then kick, he pulled off a nice low 35-40 metre pass to a lead. His problem is he gets it in the packs often, doesnt have much time to get rid of it, and so he panics and just throws it on his boot. That's why he has so many up and under kicks. His kicking is actually pretty good when he has the time. I think with more experience, he will be able to buy that extra half second, and process the surroundings that extra half second quicker, and so we'll see less and less of the up and under kicks to nothing. -
Riewolt has been well held goalwise though these opening few rounds. The reason St Kilda lost to the Doggies the other night was because Riewolt and Gehrig barely scored. Riewolt will still kick over 30 goals this year and could go far higher. Miller has kicked 36 goals in his 90 something games. One goal every three games is shite, even if he has played about 20 or so in defense. I like that he gives us a lead up target and opens up the forwardline, but we really need someone who can kick goals. Neitz will retire come years end, and we're going to struggle with forward to kick goals. This draft hopefully we get a big forward, big back, and big ruck. Got enough mids now.

Alot better today obviously. Most of the players actually tried today, and werent smashed by their opponents one on one as has been the case the first few rounds. Great to have Rivers back. He's just a general down in the backline isnt he! First game back in what a year or so, and he already looked at home and was yelling instructions to people. Also Miller at CHF was good. Led up giving us a target around the middle of the ground, which also opens up the forward line for the forwards to lead into, or midfielders to recieve a handball or chip and run on into that space. If we play that way next week, I think we'll have our first win of the season. P.S Cale Morton was great. I met him before the season started and he was a really nice guy. Shook my hand and had a chat to me over a beer (he had water ). Also met Jake Spencer, and good lordi he is enormous! If he puts some weight on that frame it'll be interesting to see what he could do.

Quote for the motherf*ckin win. He has earnt the names "Turnover King" and "Mr defense" from me and my mates. He can run fast and break through packs, but he usually turns it over at the end of it. It's probably a good thing he was sent back to Sandy, as he can work on his decision making and gain confidence in doing so. Daniel Bell had the exact same problem earlier in hsi career, and now he has fixed it and is a good disposer of the ball. If Buckley can do what Bell did, he will wind up a good player. The other thing is the defensive side of his game; there is none. I've seen him lay 1 tackle in the 5-6 games I've seen him. Most of the time he concedes defeat and just jogs back to where he knows the ball will come to him eventually. Often jogs alongside the opponent with the ball, but doesnt actually apply pressure to them. The best example of this was in the NAb cup match against Geelong, where he actually had a decent few quarters. There was a passage of play along the boundary line where he broke a tackle and then gave the ball up by hand. Wojinski wound up with it, a known speedster, burst alongside the boundary line next to Buckley and Mcdonald. Buckley casually jogged on watching, where as Junior chased, got a hand to Wojinski, but wound up losing him because he didnt have the pace to go with him. Wojinskis pass led to a mark inside 50 and goal. Junior turned around and sprayed Buckley for not chasing. And that piece of play sums it up perfectly for me. Not sure if others remember it, but it's stuck in my mind, and it's the main thing Buckley needs to work on. He has the pace to chase and really cause the oppositions some headaches like Davey, but he only ever uses it going one direction when it should go both.

I'll be waking up hung over from a friends birthday the night before. I'll watch on TV. Also i hope my girlfriend will make me pancakes.

He wont leave Brisbane. Why would he? Played there his whole career, and they're on the verge of challenging again. Why would he want to play out his career at a club which is on the brink of destruction and wont make a tilt at the flag before he retires? 99% sure he is staying at Brisbane.

Zebras lose to Borough by 1 point
Lord Travis replied to Beach Road Bazza's topic in Melbourne Demons
LOL at Warnock in the SANDY RESERVES (no disrespect to Sandy meant) Delisted at the end of the year. Why did we bother? -
Hopefully. That new away jumper is hideous and makes it even harder to tell the difference <_<
-
Just attack attack attack. No point in playing defensive football when we dont have the talent to do it properly. When you're getting smashed as bad as we have been recently, what's the difference between 100 and 200 points. Just makes getting #1 pick easier

[censored] changes. A bench with a first gamer off the rookie list, a talented young player with only 2 games under his belt, Garland the flailing [censored], and Chris 'he was playing today?' Johnson...against Geelong. Inspires no confidence. Buckley is currently abit of a turnover king, but he is one of the few in the team with pace who is actually suited to Baileys run and handball gameplan. To drop him was abit silly. What must Moloney do to get a game? Spends 2 years getting over injury, Rnd 1 i thought he was our best player, gets dropped and still cant crack the team? I'd ask for a trade. Your talents are being wasted Brent Hope one of Buckley or Moloney come in for Davey, surely isnt fit to take on the Cats who will run him off his feet and smash the [censored] out of that tiny frame of his. If he plays, he will get injured and be out for even longer! 1-2 sounded like a great result. I was expecting 10. Leave him out for this week. Was thinking about putting money down on us with those $34 odds, now i wont bother. Thank god Rivers is back. He'll be the difference between another 100 point smashing and a 75 point smashing <_< P.S ive been drinking, so excuse harsh negativity lol

Good luck to Aussie. Has impressed the right people and has apparently been working hard to get fitter and shed more weight. Will likely play this week as Davey wont play. Not good news about Grimes. A back injury is one that plagues you for the rest of your career usually. Considering he hasnt even played a game yet, and has been suffering back problems since he was 16 or so...not good news
-
Complete agree with that bench. Would've prefered to see Maric in action but oh well. Good to see Frawley being called up after i literally just last night started the thread asking why he wasnt playing Rivers strengthens the backline soooo much. Hopefully he is fit now and doesn't break down again. Best line up we've fielded for a while I think. So Aussie to cover Davey. Moloney, Buckley, Morton as midfield rotations. Frawley as back up KPP. Normally there's a ruckman on the bench but both are named on field. And yes people it's Moloney. And PettErd. AN E PEOPLE. PETTERD. Good luck spelling Wonawkiheza3hget8LOL's name though

Grimes wont play until the 2nd half of the season at best I'd say. Not that it matters, as there's no need to push him early in his career when it is completely unnecessary. Hopefully he is given time to overcome his injuries before they become chronic and turn him into another Rivers, Sylvia etc. Bate probably wont play this week. I'd say he'll play for Sandy, and then return in Rnd 4 at CHF in the role he played most of last year.
-
Forward line isnt looking great when big Neita retires. Hopefully we draft a good sized forward in the upcoming draft to play FF or CHF. Will still be years off it though. Newton to play as either FF or CHF depending on others. Maric to fill the crumber role. Bate and Sylvia to lead off the flanks and push into the midfield. Doesnt look great when compareed to say the Hawks forward line of Buddy, Roughead, Boyle, Rioli, Williams etc
-
Doubt very much that he'll play this weekend. 1-2 weeks is a good result. Thought he may have been gone for 10 when he was carried off the field :S Hopefully now we get to see Maric in action. Give the supporters a glimpse of light at the tunnel, because it sure is dark at the moment!

I didnt follow the pre-season as vigorously as previous years, but I dont remember anything about Frawley being injured. It concerns me that he isnt able to get a game with our current abysmal team. Players like Garland, who while they may turn out to be decent players, currently look like flailing [censored]. The fact that our top draft pick from 06 draft cant crack it into the team over him and many others is a worry! Many people had penciled him in as FB, or in the back pocket next to Carroll until he'd put on the mass to take over as FB. That is after all what he was drafted for! My question is where is he? Was he injured over pre-season and only now working back to match fitness? I read he played for Sandy and was average. Is he fully fit and in poor form? For those who have seen him, has he put on any weight? N. Brown from Collingwood was drafted 3-4 places earlier than him, was only 1kg heavier when drafted, and is now 95kg and looking like a real man competing against J. Brown and Pavlich! Where is Frawley? Why does our club always struggle to develop the talent properly? Have we wasted another high pick
-
Cale Morton is doing his chances no harm. If we could somehow land Morton or Cotchin, we will be laughing!

No demon deserved to be in the top 50 this year. Not even close. Mcdonald and Jones would be first up, and they'd probably rank at about 70-80

CHANGES 2007: TRADING AND DRAFTING - PART ONE
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I HATE trade week, and this silly period leading up to it. I cant stand weeks or speculation with nothing to actually talk about. That's why I avoid the forums this time of year. My opinion is that like always, we wont feature heavily in trade week. That's not necessarily a bad thing, because Judd aside, the talent you get through trade is usually traded for a reason, damaged goods. I'd trade for another top 10 pick. I'd love to draft Rance, the prototype modern fullback. The guys big, and has a great kick and rebounds well. Think of him as Matty Scartlett. Saints will take him at pick 9 guaranteed if he's around, so we need to get a pick before then, preferably pick 5 from the Doggies or 7 from Freo. That way we can draft say Palmer or Ebert with pick 4 (assuming Kreuzer Cotchin and Morton are pick 1-3), then land Rance aswell. Inject a talented midfielder into our already good young onball brigade, and add a full back we've ben waiting for to the defence. Then we'll have the following as a defence for the next 10 years basically. Frawley Rance Batram Petterd Rivers Bell Not to mention the rotating onball unit of Mclean, Jones, Moloney, Sylvia, Bate, Dunn, pick #4 etc COuld be very exciting. Will probably cost us TJ and picks to get there though. -
Brown wont be dropped. He played well on the weekend, and has been giving his all in this bleak season. He will definately be there for his good friend Neita's 300th, and likely play every game left this season, then probably retire at the end of the year.
-
Can someone tell me what is up with CJ? Is he playing for Sandy, or is he injured? Because I would have thought he'd be getting a game by now. He looked set to explode at the start of the year, but just didn't take his opportunities and is in real trouble. What do people think lays ahead for the future of Chris Johnson?
-
Mclean is the best of the 2003 draft thus far. Better than Cooney. That's not to say Cooney isn't a good player, because he is, and if he could put it together consistently he'd be fantastic, but Mclean has achieved the most thus far. Cooney just had a error riddled game on the weekend. This time last year, he played a magnificent game, had 35 disposals and 5 goals against Adelaide in a BOG performance to help secure the Doggies a finals place. Mclean did him one better and won us a final :D hahaha Point is Cooney is a good footballer, and there's no need to rubbish him.

Mine too. Watching Travis was the most exciting thing thats happened on Brownlow night since 2000 when Woey won it!

When will we produce our next Nathan Foley?
Lord Travis replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Foley is having a good season and standing out in a horrible team. Mclean is better, and will always be, better than him. Jones looks like he will be too, and he's even younger than Foley.
