  1. North have been absolutely kissed on the d*ck. Massive overcompensation. They've already got a very stacked young midfield that just needs time to mature. LDU, Sympkin, T Thomas, Sheezel, Wardlaw, Philips, Powell is the makings of an elite midfield. Add in another 5 picks within the first 20 in this draft and anything less than a premiership in 5-6 years time must be considered an outright failure. Similar stacked young list to GWS and Gold Coast, both who have failed and are now losing the advantage they were handed.

Will have he best career of this draft crop. Not necessarily the highest peak performance, but best overall career. Couldn't be more rounded as a midfielder and leader very impressive youngster and I hope he winds up in red and blue.
  3. Curtin, Sanders, Watson in that order for pick 6 preferences. Windsor doesn't seem to be pick 6 level IMO. Curtin would be a steal.
  4. They do use it to create a bit of intrigue for sure. We took Hayden Young and Pickett in the year we the two first rounders, so showed our hand slightly. Jackson the surprise bolter then, someone else could be the same this year.
  5. Gave nothing away other than we're still keen to trade up whether for pick 1 or improving our draft hand. The recruiters do a mock draft together every year and it was this afternoon. If anyone gets details of how it went, please share!
  6. I think it'll be 6 - Curtin 11 - Windsor I'm hoping for 6- Sanders 11 - O'Sullivan

He's a jet and I expect him to be picked by another club before us. If he slid to us then he'd be a great pickup. Him and Kozzie would cause nightmares up forward and both can take stints in the midfield for extra damage.
  8. A Sanders and O'Sullivan double would be the ideal result IMO.
  9. Yes. he and club have nominated. Will very likely become a Demon either by a late draft pick or the rookie draft. The only way he doesn't now is if a club bids on him very high so we choose/can't match it, which appears unlikely.
  10. The draft picks don't have an end point - they are infinite as long as clubs have list spots to fill and are not choosing to pass. As mentioned by RalphiusMaximus however, once you hit a certain point of the draft each pick has 0 points assigned value. So if a club bid on him at pick 88, we can just match the bid and take him if we have a list spot available. The kicker though is having a list spot available to actually draft him, and that may be why delisted Turner.
  11. He's a Gold Coast academy draftee and was always expected to be drafted top 10. GC have 3 academy prospects (Walter, Read, Rogers) set to be taken I the first round. Read is not an option for us, though we'll likely bid on him if he available.

Looks like Marc Murphy to me. Quick neat player, but lacks the power of top line midfielders.

He's from country Victoria and is a Geelong supporter. Will likely be down at the cattery in a few years time and handed the keys to the city.
  14. Reid is from country Victoria and supports Geelong... Guess who will be a Cat in a few years!

Clayton Oliver no good then? How about two time brownlow medalist Lachie Neale? Or brownlow medalist Cripps? Versatility is nice to have, but if you're a gun midfielder then why would you ever play any other position. Talk about impact, Sanders is the best performed midfielder in this 2023 draft class. He won the Larke medal for best player in the national championships. He's a ball winner, he's got burst of pace, classy agile mover, good kicking skills, strong overhead, hits the scoreboard, leadership qualities. There's no reason why he won't make it as a good AFL midfielder. He's probably the safest bet in this whole draft class and looks to me like hell carve out a Joel Selwood type career. If JT and the recruiters decide Leake is our guy, then we'll all support him and hope he's a star. At this point in time, he's a lesser player than Sanders and hasn't shown much as a midfielder yet. Pick 6 is a lot to spend on a flanker sized intercept defender when there's potentially a superb midfielder on offer.
  16. This thread is about Kynan Brown not Ben Brown.

Essentially means West Coast are taking pick 1 to draft. Norths offer is better than ours, and ours is already overs IMO. We're better off taking what we have to draft. A shame as Reid looks to be a potential game breaking star of the future, but it would be unwise to over commit for one player. Let's say we wind up with Sanders at 6, Windsor at 11, Brown at 42, and our future first is round pick 15 as an example. If we use the moneyball math idea, Reid is a 10/10 Sanders is 9/10 Windsor is 7/10 Brown is 4/10 Future first is 6/10. 26 beats 10, but it's just about what's better for the list at that point in time. If it was just 6 and 11 I'd consider it. To add future firsts and other picks tips it too far the other way. If West Coast won't accept 2+15+17, then it's extremely unlikely they will accept 6+11+42+future first. And I hope they don't. it's overs. Time to move on from pick 1/Reid.

On viewing I thought he played like a shorter Lever, so I'm baffled by the Fyfe, Hird, Bailey and other comparisons... If JT thinks he can become an elite midfielder, then I'm all for it. That's what we need. Would be a huge call to take him ahead of Sanders, Watson or Curtin if available.

This coaching change is the biggest watch for me. Our midfield has elite top end talent, but hasn't maximised it the past two years. A fresh voice and mind to structure ours mids differently could push us back into a dominant team. We lost our centre stoppage impact this year, but more importantly we actually got beat up there defensively. Seeing Carlton late in the season pile on 3 quick centre bounce goals against us when the game was on the line was heartbreaking. The ball movement through the midfield needs a refresh too, so McQualter could be our biggest trump card this coming season.

Agreed on the captaincy. Max is contracted through 2025 and himself said he can't see himself playing beyond this contract. That means he's got two seasons left and will be 34/35 when he retires. It's reasonable to assume he hands off captaincy soon. Lever is our most rounded leader and has been for years. He's the general, an on field coach, a vocal leader at training also setting standards, handles off field and media well. Personally I'd make him captain with Max or Viney vice.
  21. Fantastic achievement by all. The girls are flying and look set to go back to back! AFL mens premiership 2021. VFL premiership 2022. AFLW premiership 2022. The club is in a really fruitful period of success. Enjoy it while it lasts and hopefully what has been built the past few years is sustainable long term.

I've seen him mostly as an intercept defender playing on mediums and smalls. He was pretty good, especially his marking, but nothing screamed top 5-10 pick compared to others on the field, especially Sanders and Mckercher. We need fresh elite midfield talent coming through, and multiple first round picks in a draft is the time to get some. I haven't seen him play midfield. What are peoples impressions of him in the guts?
  23. Hopefully we pick him up as a father son either late or rookie. Though he's slight, he's a real goer and was actually one of Vic Metros best players! With a bit of work to build his body strength up he could definitely forge an afl career. Fingers crossed he makes it in red and blue.
  24. Lost both finals by single digits. We were a bees [censored] away from a grand final and premiership. If we had a better run with injury in our forward half at the tail end of the year we would've won the premiership with little resistance. It's why 2023 hurts so much. Alongside the Bulldogs in 2016, Collingwood are the weakest premier of the century so far. They won their 3 finals by a cumulative margin of 12 points. Fully fit, we account for them comfortably and so do a few other teams. Next year is flag or bust. If we bail out of finals in straight sets again, or worse, then it's time for drastic action like sacking Goodwin or some seriously strong trading. This window won't stay open forever and we need to make the most of it now. We've realistically got 1-2 years strong years left before Gawn and May are out of contract and likely retiring or declining sharply. Make it count.
  25. Very good comparison. His leg speed, two way running and attacking flair are a key reason why he's shooting up draft boards and we're reportedly interested.
