Clayton Oliver now 2022 Brownlow favourite?
It looks like Lachie Neal from the Brisbane Lions is slight favourite with Clayton Oliver a very close second. I am happy for a tie with Lachie Neal but it would certainly be nice for Clayton Oliver to win the 2022 Brownlow Medal outright. Anyway, here is an interesting article about it: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/brownlow-medal/brownlow-medal-2022-stats-preview-analysis-predictions-winner-favourites-odds-clubbyclub-best-chances-to-win-chances-of-a-tie/news-story/18524184fdd052236ef150723014cbc6 Good luck Clarrie! We hope you win the Brownlow! We all love you here at the Demons! Photo of Clayton Oliver with his "Checker" Hughes Medal from an ANZAC Eve Game against Richmond.

Phantom Drafts Thread 2022
My 7 ideal players that the Demons should look to possibly consider drafting (if we get 2 first round draft picks for Luke Jackson and keep them both) in the 2022 AFL National Draft would be the following young players in no particular order. 1) Aaron Cadman - Because we need a tall forward and he looks the best in the draft. 2) Matthew Jefferson - If we miss out on Aaron Cadman and want another likely tall forward. 3) Harry Sheezel - Just for pure talent and the goal kicking x factor that he has. 4) Bailey Humphrey - You simply cannot say no to a powerful goal kicking midfielder. 6) Isaac Keeler - An Indigenous forward-ruckman who could be an ideal replacement for Luke Jackson. 7) Lachie Cowan - A hard running defender-midfielder from Tasmania who could be a long term replacement for Michael Hibberd.

Jackson Callow
Hmmm....I did not know about this. Quite disappointing to hear that Jackson Callow has injured his ankle. Nevertheless, I think that the Demons could at least offer him a rookie spot. He has shown he has the talent and I think he would provide a better option than Mitch Brown in the future.

Oliver's fault he was gouged in the eye
What an absolute disgrace! Clayton Oliver could of been blinded! It was a despicable act by Jarrod Berry from the Brisbane Lions gouging at Clayton's eyes. Did you see Clayton's eye during the game? It was severely bruised with blood in his eyeball! I feel sorry for Clarrie he cops it every week from opposition midfielders trying to tag him. Let's hope he wins the 2022 Brownlow Medal this year to show the rest of the AFL why we rate him so highly. Shove it up the haters Clarrie! We love you here at the Demons!

Jackson Callow
Jackson Callow was delisted by the Hawks a few weeks ago. He will be a delisted free agent who I think the Demons should at least consider recruiting. Was originally a Tasmanian who was overlooked in the draft and then played for Norwood in the SANFL. He is a tall forward who is about 195-196cms in height and still only 20 years of age. Was apparently a Melbourne Demons supporter as a kid growing up in Tasmania. I don't know what his deficiencies are seeing as the Hawks did delist him. However, I think he is worth another chance on an AFL list and we are desperate for young tall forwards to develop. We should definitely look to recruit him and let him play in the forward line for the Casey Demons. That way we can watch him closely and see if he can make it on an AFL list ourselves. Here is his highlights reel at Norwood playing for the Redlegs in the SANFL. https://youtu.be/48RR72CzVh8 Here is Jackson Callow taking a massive mark at full speed while at Norwood. https://youtu.be/__RNFgjfcy8 Here are highlights of him playing in the Under 18s competition for Tasmania and NAB All Stars back in 2020. https://youtu.be/fM2kOFJywvg Anyway, I hope MFC Recruiting Boss Jason Taylor has a look at possibly picking up Jackson Callow as a delisted free agent.

Farewell Luke Jackson
If we get pick #2 from West Coast I would split that into two separate first round draft picks. The first one (ideally a top 5 pick) we use on someone like Aaron Cadman from the North Ballarat Rebels. The second first round pick we give to Collingwood for Brodie Grundy and for them to pay half his salary. That would be the best ideal scenario.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Disappointed that Luke Jackson is leaving the Demons. I guess the longer it dragged on the more likely it was going to happen. I was hopeful he would stay...but the pull of family and big money won out. At least he helped us break our 57 year Premiership drought. Nobody can ever take that away from him. Glad he just said a WA Club as that gives the Demons more bargaining power. I would expect either 2 first round picks or a first round pick and a good player in return. Let's now enjoy seeing Fremantle and West Coast fight it out to give the Melbourne Football Club the best trade deal for Luke Jackson.

Training Ground?
I think all of us as Melbourne Demons members and supporters need to be focused on the issue of a home base in the off season. I encourage every one of us to keep the pressure on the Melbourne Football Club board so that this matter of a home base is resolved. This means ringing the Club, sending emails to the Club and asking these questions about a home base at Club functions as well as at the AGM and other Melbourne member forums. If we keep up the inquiry and the demand of a home base....hopefully it will indeed happen. Eventually!

Improving the Demons coaching staff for 2023?
I was just wondering who we could add to the Melbourne Demons coaching staff to help us next year in 2023? I definitely think Simon Goodwin would like to improve our line coaches. I know a lot will depend if Adem Yze ends up getting the Essendon coaching job or (hopefully) stays with us. Nevertheless, I think the Melbourne Demons should definitely look to consider pursuing Ben Rutten and Nathan Buckley. I do not like to compare with other clubs. But if you look at Collingwood they definitely improved their coaching staff for 2022. They brought in Brendon Bolton and Justin Leppitsch who have definitely helped Craig McCrae in his first year as senior coach at the Magpies. Obviously we still have Mark "Choco" Williams who has been absolutely fantastic for us. As has Adem Yze in supporting Simon Goodwin. We also shouldn't forget the efforts made by Troy Chaplin and Greg Stafford. Not to mention the Casey Demons VFL coach Mark Corrigan. Alan Richardson does a brilliant job as Football Manager and I am sure Sam Radford contributes immensely too. Nevertheless, I just would like to see improvements made for our forward line connection and if we can bring some more talented coaches in to help improve team performance then that would definitely make a difference. I also still think we need a proper goal kicking coach at the Melbourne Football Club. Anyway, please let me know your thoughts on whether or not we should consider pursuing Ben Rutten and Nathan Buckley to join our coaching staff at the Melbourne Football Club? I think anything we can do to help us improve for season 2023 needs to at least be considered.

Trade and Free Agency rumours
What about chasing after Tanner Bruhn from GWS? We could look to rotate him as a wingman and a half-forward. The kid can certainly play! Just have a look at his highlights video from GWS. https://youtu.be/vlqS4buD0UI Tanner Bruhn wants to move back to Victoria as well. He is currently got North Melbourne and Geelong keen for his signature. But why not us? After missing out on Adam Cerra last year this could be the chance we need to boost our midfield even more.

What a waste of a season!
Wow! I am glad my original post for this thread stirred up so much debate. I have cooled down alot since Friday night. And I apologise if people don't agree with my harsh thoughts. Nevertheless, I am sure we can all admit that it was a disappointing end to season 2022. But oh well....let's hope the Melbourne Football Club learns from it's mistakes and can fix the vulnerabilities it has. As for being a "fickle" supporter....that's a laughable comment. I have been a member of the Melbourne Football Club since 1998 and the last 2 years I have spent over $2,000 on reserve Redleg memberships for me and family members. I went to every home game and finals. My Parents call me a Demons fanatic. I love the Melbourne Football Club and will until the day I die. You may not agree with the unpleasant comments I said but this is a discussion forum afterall and I have a right to give my view about how upset and angry I was after going out in straight sets in the finals after finishing 2nd on the ladder. I guess it just shows how much emotion and passion we put into Aussies Rules Football and how we all dearly love the Melbourne Demons. Nothing pisses me off more than losing finals! I will try my best to now move on and look forward to seeing the Melbourne Demons use the harsh lessons we learnt this year as motivation to strive for a Premiership once again in season 2023.

What a pathetic and disappointing way to end the season. It's going to take me a long time to get over being this [censored] angry! 😡

What a waste of a season!
Just as I am sure many of us here are...I am still in a blind rage after losing to the Brisbane Lions. What an absolutely disgraceful waste of a season! Especially after winning the first 10 games of the season and hoping to go back to back as Premiers. What a pathetic end to the finals too. Dumb turnovers and decision-making and dumb coaching. I spent over $500+ on a Melbourne Demons reserve seat Redlegs memberships and also bought finals tickets. Only to be served up a big steaming pile of excrement by the players and coaches. To go out in straight sets is a utter humiliation. The players and coaches should be ashamed on themselves for that. No more pats on the back for a "good effort" by the players. We cannot accept such a disappointing end to the season. We as Melbourne members and supporters should not tolerate this if we want to be a serious AFL Club that demands success. Clubs like Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney and Collingwood wouldn't accept this. The Melbourne Football Club needs to know that we as supporters and members won't put up with this type of garbage. From now on anything less than a Premiership is a failure. It is going to take me an extremely long time to cool down after this gigantic embarassment! I demand a Flag next season! Rant over.

Training Ground?
Ideally I would like something quite large built around Gosch's Paddock. If you can imagine it...basically...I would love to see a massive red and dark blue building extending from Carpark F next to AAMI Park over to that triangle area connecting Citylink exits with Punt Road. It could easily house our home base for the Melbourne Football Club with all the facilities we would need. I don't think building either over or under the roads near the Citylink exits would be a problem either Here is a map showing the area I am talking about. https://static.wixstatic.com/media/0b0b9b_edcf73dc906842f4904573e60fb39b93~mv2.png/v1/fill/w_640,h_500,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto/0b0b9b_edcf73dc906842f4904573e60fb39b93~mv2.png The bigger issue would be getting permission to get the building constructed and the overall costs. Finding the money to get it constructed is the more serious challenge. It would easily cost $100+ million to get the home base built.

Trade and Free Agency rumours
Absolutely! Jackson Callow was a Melbourne supporter growing up as a kid. About 194-195cms tall. He has a vice-like grip when taking marks Would definitely be worthwhile giving a chance to. Hopefully Jason Taylor is having a re-look at the Tasmanian under-18s football footage. Would definitely be a better prospect than Mitch Brown and is only 20 years of age. Found some more video footage of Jackson Callow playing for Tasmania here: https://youtu.be/fM2kOFJywvg

Trade and Free Agency rumours
What about Jackson Callow? The big Tasmanian forward who played for Norwood in the SANFL and then got picked up by Hawthorn in the mid-season draft? Apparently he got surprisingly delisted by the Hawks. I think he is worth looking at as a delisted free agent. Here is a video of some highlights of him when he was playing at Norwood.

TEAMS: SF vs Brisbane
No surprises. Simon Goodwin likes a stable team. Would of liked to roll the dice with Tom McDonald but I guess he needs another run in the VFL for match fitness. Just hope all our forwards have their goal kicking boots on this Friday. No more excuses for Alex Neal-Bullen and Jake Melksham. They need to perform! Fingers crossed Christian Petracca can have a significant impact too. 🤞

Training Ground?
I thought about Brunswick Street Oval as an option. I still see it as the spiritual home of the old Fitzroy Football Club. I dunno if it would feel right. It would be a bit like moving into Lakeside Oval in Albert Park where the old South Melbourne Football Club used to play. Sadly moving to Brunswick Street Oval would face the same opposition as the plans for Jolimont Station/Yarra Park which were proposed and shut down by the Government and East Melbourne residents. If this was the 1960s or 1970s it could of been built in that area with no problem. But we live in different times now. In the inner City there are unfortunately too many NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard) types who have their on prerogatives and don't have any interest in the Melbourne Football Club. I am sure some barrack for Melbourne but not enough to change community opinion. It greatly annoys me that Eddie McGuire and Collingwood snuck in and took the Olympic Park area in 2005. I think we were originally offered it around 2000(?) but former Melbourne President Joe Gutnick declined. This also had to do with the fact that we just didn't have the funds to afford to build our home base back then. Being at Junction Oval (St. Kilda's old home ground for many years until they moved to Moorabbin) was adequate for the 1980s but the facilities there were mediocre. We have all heard the stories of the possum droppings and other poor maintenance issues at Junction Oval. How we made the finals using that place really is beyond my comprehension. To think the MCC leased it to us for 30 years and then a few years after we move out to go to AAMI Park it goes to Cricket Victoria and gets a multi-million dollar upgrade. Wow! Gee....thanks for that MCC! 😒 I will never give up on the Melbourne Football Club having a new home base built. Hypothetically, if I was a billionaire and had the money I would build it myself no matter what the cost. But that isn't the case. The MCC has really screwed us over in many ways for decades. If you even look at the way they treated us when we were a subsection of the MCC they barely gave us any money to recruit players and we were constantly kicked off the MCG when it came to Pre-Season training. The Melbourne Football Club was basically the unwanted step-child of the MCC. To think that in the 1950s and early 1960s we helped make the MCG not just the home of cricket, which is already was, but also the home of Australian Rules Football. We should be the wealthiest and most resourced Club in the AFL. But the MCC would rather just spend $1 billion on upgrading the Shane Warne/Great Southern Stand and ignore us. But yeah, I am definitely very angry at how the MCC has treated us in recent times. All we can do is continue to raise this matter with the Melbourne Football Club board and make sure that our home base gets built eventually!

Trade and Free Agency rumours
How Richmond can afford both Tim Taranto and Jacob Hopper is beyond me?! I am still keen on the idea of the Demons making a last minute pitch to Tim Taranto. Especially if we do end up losing Luke Jackson. Apparently Tim Taranto used to barrack for the Melbourne Demons as a kid growing up and as much as we probably need another tall forward it would be a massive coup to bolster our midfield even more with someone of his calbre. Anyway, we will see whether or not Luke Jackson stays with the Melbourne Demons or goes to either Fremantle or West Coast.

Trade and Free Agency rumours
Ok....scratch the suggestion of Josh Schache from the Western Bulldogs. Bit of a case of too timid unfortunately I guess. What about two current Bombers that wanna leave Essendon? There's Aaron Francis who had enormous potential but still hasn't "kicked on" as either a forward or a defender. I know he was highly rated in his draft year back in 2015. However, Aaron is still incredibly talented and a change of scenery moving away from Essendon would probably do him good. Another Essendon player is wingman Brayden Ham who the Demons were keen on back in 2019 or 2020 I think? Would he be worth another look? Anyway, I am sure the Melbourne Demons List Management team is look at all these possibilities. Just wanted to hear what you all think about the options of Aaron Francis and Brayden Ham?
-
Trade and Free Agency rumours
Apparently Josh Schache from the Western Bulldogs is "desperate" to play for a new AFL Club. Could we consider him? He's a former number 2# AFL Draft pick from 2015. Originally from the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup and is friends with Clayton Oliver. Even won the Larke Medal at the State Under 18 Championships back in 2015 too. He is 199cms tall and can be played in defence or up forward. Frustratingly, Josh really hasn't "gone on" with his career but a change of environment may do him good? He is still only 25 years old and may be a handy addition to our list? Anyway, I am interested in knowing your thoughts on Josh?

Melbourne Demons Strategic Plan for 2020-2023 - Ongoing performance report.
I know the 2022 AFL Season isn't over for us yet. But I thought it would be worthwhile giving a progress report of the Melbourne Football Club's Strategic Plan for 2020-2023. Especially as we had a few lofty goals that we have now achieved. DEMON GOALS, 2020-23 1. Play AFL and AFLW finals each year, win at least one AFL and AFLW flag. - Besides 2020 we have been doing this and making the finals in both AFL and AFLW. We also have won (finally!) an AFL Premiership in 2021 and came close to winning an AFLW Premiership last season. 2. Eliminate debt, aggregate $4 million profit over 4 years, $30-million plus of income-producing assets. - As far as I know debt has been almost eliminated and we are heading in the right direction regarding assets. 3. Inspire excellence, attract new talent. - I definitely think we have begun doing that getting Adem Yze back at the club and Mark "Choco" Williams. 4. 75,000 members (from 52,000 in 2019), MCG home game average crowds of 50,000-plus. - Not sure on the average of 50,000+ crowds at the MCG but we are on the way to getting 75,000 members and currently have 66,000+ members as of 2022. 5. Finish high-performance facility at Casey Fields, start construction of new Melbourne home base facility with a social club, aiming to be ‘‘within walking distance of the MCG’’. - We have had the facility at Casey Fields completed and got the oval expanded at Gosch's Paddock. We now just need to get the home base facility and social club constructed. In this regard, you gotta say Melbourne Football Club's Strategic Plan for 2020-2023 has achieved most of it's goals. If you were to grade the success I would say the mark of a B or even a B+ for CEO Gary Pert and the Melbourne Demons Board would be a fair assessment. Just gotta get that home base facility and social club built! That will be the big challenge! Nevertheless, breaking our 57 year Premiership drought in the AFL and becoming 2021 Premiers was the number 1# achievement for the Melbourne Football Club. Just gotta win a few more Flags now! Feel free to let me know your own thoughts on this assessment of the performance of the Melbourne Football Club in implementing it's current Strategic Plan for 2020-2023, which I assume they are still following?

Training Ground?
Additionally, the home base should include a massive interactive museum for the Melbourne Football Club (even better than what other AFL Clubs like Carlton and Essendon have) which would illustrate our proud history, which is over 160 years old, and would be a wonderful experience for Melbourne Demons fans to walk through and experience. This would talk about the beginnings of the Melbourne Football Club. The great players, teams, coaches and administrators, the Premiership years and the years of disappointment. Melbourne fans could also see (and hold) all 13 (currently) of our Premiership Cups!

Training Ground?
With the new TV rights deal with the AFL for a whopping $4.5 billion dollars the Melbourne Football Club needs to take advantage of the significant windfall. I would love the Melbourne Demons to aim to get $100 million dollars from the AFL to help pay for our home base to be built at Gosch's Paddock. We could arrange so it is not just for the AFL team's training but also for the AFLW team's training. The home base should also include our administration as well as state of the art training facilities, a social club and even an Indigenous Centre (similar to Richmond) seeing as we have a connection with Aboriginal communities in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Anyway, hopefully the Melbourne Football Club board aims to try and get some funds to help us from the AFL. I understand it's not that simple but you gotta at least ask the question and develop a worthy proposal. Even if it is a loan from the AFL.
