Absolutely! A big THANK YOU to Jason Taylor our National Recruiting Officer. He really is a brilliant recruiter. Clayton Oliver has been a star since his debut game for the Demons! Here is a great video clip of his debut game in Round 1 back in 2016 against GWS to bring back some fond memories. And once again, well done on 150 games Clarrie! Let's hope you play at least 200 more (so over 350 AFL games) for the Demons! 🔴🔵👹

Just glad big Maxy Gawn will be alright in a few weeks time. He is the heart and soul of the Melbourne Football Club and I hope Jack Viney steps up to the plate as Captain. Additionally, let's hope Jacob van Rooyen gets his chance to debut for the Demons against the Swans.

Just thought this deserved a separate thread on Demonland. As mentioned by @WalkingCivilWarin another thread, it will be Clayton Oliver's 150th game for the Melbourne Football Club. Clayton Oliver, only one third of the way through his career, at 25 years of age has to be one of the greatest Demons players in the modern era. You gotta love Clarrie. I hope he wins more Premierships for the Demons and also grabs that elusive Brownlow Medal one day. Clayton Oliver is a Champion for the Melbourne Football Club. I hope he goes on to play at least 350 or even 400 games for the Demons. I encourage as many Melbourne supporters as possible to attend the match against the Swans on Sunday at the MCG to say a massive THANK YOU to Clarrie in his 150th game for the Demons! His "bang, bang bang!" goal late in the 3rd Quarter of the 2021 AFL Grand Final will never be forgotten! Fingers crossed Clayton Oliver plays, many, many more magnificent games for the Melbourne Football Club! Congratulations on 150 games for the Demons Clarrie! 🔴🔵👹

The big issue is the entire system is flawed and needs to be overhauled. It needs to be a much fairer system. The fact that that the Western Bulldogs got their NGA product with the number #1 pick in Jamarra Ugle-Hagan in the 2020 AFL Draft and we could not even bid on Mac Andrew who went to Gold Coast with the number #5 pick in the 2021 AFL Draft was grossly unfair. Personally, I think the Melbourne Football Club should of made a bigger stink about this matter, but it may have been seen as "over the top" due to the fact we were 2021 AFL Premiers at the time. But still, an official complaint to the AFL should of been made. Unfortunately, we sadly "rolled over" and should have fought the AFL more on the unfair changing of the rules. Especially when teams like Sydney, GWS and Gold Coast have a distinct advantage with their own Interstate Academies. If this serious problem is not resolved it makes the NGA Academies almost pointless for Victorian AFL Clubs, in particular, to bother to financially support. Clubs want to see reward for effort and if you don't allow this then the whole idea of having an NGA Academy is a waste of time.

Hawthorn smashed by 81 points today up against Sydney. If we can have that happen ×1000 times over 57 years they will know what we as Melbourne supporters have endured. -
Here are my questions for the Demonland podcasters. Is it time to finally debut Jacob van Rooyen? Who do we play on Tom Papley? Judd McVee? Unless we bring back Michael Hibberd? Who played an excellent game for the Casey Demons in the VFL. After such a poor performance in the midfield do we bring in James Jordon or even Luke Dunstan? Lastly, what do we need to do to actually beat the Swans?
-
It will definitely be interesting if we play Judd McVee on Tom Papley. Hope the Demons come out "breathing fire" against the Swans for two reasons. Firstly, to respond to the disappointing loss to the Lions. Secondly, as a bit of "pay back" for losing to the Swans in the finals last season.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition

Hahahahahaha! Kangaroos by 1 point! Alistair Clarkson doing a pretty good job as coach so far. Let's hope Fremantle finish in the bottom 4 of the ladder so we can get that top draft pick we should have received for Luke Jackson. Fair is fair. -
Good question. I didn't see Daniel "Disco" Turner out there today? Was pleased with the performances of many of our players. Thought Matthew Jefferson did alright with a few good marks. Just gotta learn to kick straight.
-
Phew! What a sigh of relief! However, 4 to 6 weeks is still a fair chunk of footy to miss for Max Gawn. Note to Jack Viney, from now on, please accidentally injure opposition players and not your teammates!
-
Not a fan of this kind of "journalism". Let's wait until we hear from the medical experts and get all the facts on Max Gawn's knee scan first.
-
Hopefully Steven May comes back. We desperately need him. As for Max Gawn....we gotta wait and see. However, I think Josh Schache is a chance to play next week, but only if he plays well in the VFL for the Casey Demons tomorrow.
-
I have done an ACL myself (still have 2 steel pins in my right knee) and I just don't get that "vibe" from Max Gawn. Nevertheless, we will wait and see what the actual medical experts say. I guess we will all wait in trepidation and find out after Max Gawn has his scans tomorrow. Hopefully nothing too serious.
-
A disappointing game. Just like our finals loss to the Lions last year. The game was basically lost after the 1st quarter to be brutally honest. Especially after losing Max Gawn to injury. But glad we kicked a few goals late to earn a small amount of respectability. Let's hope that Max Gawn's injury isn't too bad. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Lights are Gawn! What a disaster of a night! Just finish the game now. Or....make it a draw 😁
-
Great photo! Glad to see that Jeff White's sons love the Mighty Demons! No point putting any pressure on this young fella in Kalani. He has plenty of time on his side. I am sure he is still growing taller too! I wish Kalani all the best for the future. ☺️

This is certainly an interesting topic. I definitely think player longevity has changed and as long an an AFL player can keep healthy and still impact the game then there is no reason why they can't have long careers. I know that Max Gawn is getting close to 200 games but I think he could still make it to 250+ games. Especially with Brodie Grundy as his fellow "tap brother" now helping him in the ruck. Tom McDonald is a little over 200 games now and should also be able to reach 250+ games. I think Jack Viney could also reach 250+ games (as long as he can stay fit and healthy). As for the big 5 of Angus Brayshaw, Christian Petracca, James Harmes, Christian Salem and Clayton Oliver. Angus Brayshaw is close to 150 games and I think is able to play between 300 and 350 games. Christian Petracca is just over 150 games and I think is also able to play between 300 and even beyond 350+ games. James Harmes is close to 150 games too and I think he can definitely reach 300+ games. Lastly, I think Clayton Oliver due to his age, at still only 25 and very close to 150 games, will eventually become the Melbourne Football Club's Games Record Holder and most likely to play 400+ games for the Demons. I understand some may believe this to be a bit delusional, but it would be fantastic if we can have a few more players that are able to reach the milestones of 300, 350 and even 400 games for the Melbourne Football Club. Besides winning more Premierships, it all adds to the rich history and culture of our Club. Hopefully, I am correct in my very ambitious predictions but obviously time will tell in the long run.

It will be interesting who ends up being the "super sub". Will it be Jake Melksham again or perhaps Adam Tomlinson?
-
Hahahahahahaha!! 🤣 Rick in between the Tap Brothers.

I cannot have any sympathy for Hawthorn. They have laughed at us and humiliated us many times over the years. It is important to have long memories about the slights against us from the Hawks. In my own memory, there's the 1987 Preliminary Final where Jimmy Stynes unfortunately ran through the mark and gave away a 15 metre penalty to allow Gary Buckenara to be "within reach" to kick that goal after the siren. I have had many Hawthorn supporters gleefully remind me of this. Then in 1988 when the Demons got smashed in the Grand Final by 96 points by the Hawks. That was humiliating and you had Hawthorn supporters holding out print-outs saying "Suffer Demons". Then there is the whole merger debacle in 1996 with Hawthorn. Luckily it never eventuated (thanks to Don Scott). But the stinging reminders by Hawthorn supporters that we voted "yes" to merge and become the "Melbourne Hawks" still irks me. Then in 2013 or 2014 we had Hawks President Jeff Kennett and even Hawks Coach Alistair Clarkson (a former Melbourne Demons player) saying the Melbourne Football Club should be kicked out of the AFL or moved to the Gold Coast. Rudely commentating and disrespecting our Club. I also personally remember walking out of a game at the MCG after we were losing by over 100 points against the Hawks, back in 2015, and being laughed at and ridiculed by Hawthorn supporters. The fact that I stayed up until that point in the game showed I was a glutton for punishment really! But back to my point, we should never forget the insults made against our Club and grudges we have against Hawthorn. They hate us and we should hate them even more!- 117 replies

An excellent podcast as usual! 😎👍🏻 Thank you for answering my questions regarding the performances of our Demon debutants against the Bulldogs.
-
I also agree that Steven May should not be risked unless 100% fit. Would rather see him line up in a re-match against Buddy Franklin when we play the Swans at the MCG in Round 3.
-
Ohh nooo! 😔 Let's hope it's nothing too serious for Tom McDonald. Fingers crossed! 🤞
-
There's no way I would be risking any of our 4 Premiership players in Steven May, Jack Viney, Bayley Fritsch and Christian Salem unless they are 100% fit. Remember it is a VERY long season! However, I think Viney replacing Bailey Laurie and Fritsch replacing Kozzy Pickett are the most logical replacements. As long as they are fit and ready to play. If there is ANY doubt we should not risk them. As other fellow Demonlanders have mentioned, I am definitely concerned about dangerous small forward Charlie Cameron. Would he slaughter 2nd gamer in Judd McVee? Is it better to replace him with Michael Hibberd? That's my biggest question. Perhaps Michael Hibberd should be the "super sub" for this game? Although, I do believe Jake Melksham did an excellent job against the Bulldogs. I also think Harmes should tag Daniel Rich as a defensive half forward. We also need to be mindful of speedy Irishman Conor McKenna. The Brisbane Lions have a team stacked full of talent and will be fired up to make amends after their disappointing loss to Port Adelaide. This will certainly be a challenging game for the Demons up at the GABBA on Friday night.
