I actually have a friend who lives near Damian Barrett. He is apparently a nice bloke with a wonderful family. You would never guess he was an "ambulance chaser". 🤣 Overall, I honestly never notice the media much when we are winning. Like most of the media they love "controversy" because it sells. Sadly there is a long list of "Melbourne haters" in the media. Tony Jones, Caroline Wilson, Jack Dyer (when he was alive), Mick Malthouse, Kevin Sheedy, Brian Taylor, Matthew Lloyd etc. We just gotta keep winning Premierships to make them hate us more! 😉
-
We might still be a sneaky chance to reach 70,000 Melbourne Football Club members? But I think it is more a realistic objective for next year. Nevertheless, gotta keep winning Premierships for our membership numbers to continue to grow.

Still Woewodin!!! A brilliant first ever goal by SOW (Son Of Woewodin)! His Father Shane would be proud! Hopefully his family was at the MCG to see it!

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Supreme_Demon replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think a belated top 4 AFL Draft pick for Luke Jackson is "fair and just" after losing Luke Jackson to Fremantle last year. Anyway, we'll see what happens and continue to enjoy the death riding. -
I am not too worried. I have faith that Brodie Grundy can adapt. I think it is fair enough for Brodie Grundy to learn to play forward a bit more. He has to be flexible and be a ruckman-forward and not just a pure ruckman. That's always the challenge when you play two ruckmen in a team. One or both of them must be goal kickers for it to work. It worked in that pre-seaon game a few months ago against St. Kilda down at Moorabbin. Both Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy kicked a few goals each in that game. I also think Brodie Grundy's bigger challenge is taking more contested marks! That's probably the most frustrating aspect of his game I would like to see improve. Fix that and the goals will come.

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition

Freeeoooo! Free falling! -
Adam Tomlinson deserves another chance if Harry Petty is out injured. He has been playing extremely well at VFL level. I also like the idea of playing Jake Bowey forward instead of Charlie Spargo and have Michael Hibberd (if fit?) take Jake Bowey's place in the backline.
-
I'm not really a fan of the current VFL with it's interstate teams. You would think after COVID-19 they can go back to their local state leagues? Would love to see a few of the "old" VFA/VFL clubs return. Bring back Brunswick, Traralgon, Bendigo, Northcote, Camberwell, North Ballarat, Caulfield, Prahran, Oakleigh, Yarraville, Brighton, Sunshine, Dandenong, Kilsyth, Berwick, Waverley, even Fitzroy and South Melbourne. Unfortunately, I understand it is a matter of money and resources.

I have a few questions from last night. 1) Will Judd McVee finally get that elusive Rising Star Nomination this week? 2) Was that Jake Melksham's best game for the Demons? 3) Now with 8 goals from 2 games, if Christian Petracca can continue this incredible form is he a smoky chance to win the Brownlow medal? 4) If Harry Petty is out injured does Adam Tomlinson come in as his replacement? 5) What do we need to do to beat the Adelaide Crows next week at the MCG?

Wow! What a win! 1 point! I thought we were gone. But we managed to find a way to win. Unbelievable! Was a fantastic game too. Lots of highlights. I lost my voice too! Anyway, glad we got the win. GO YOU MIGHTY DEMONS!!!! 🔴🔵👹
-
At the MCG early. Was feeling anxious and wanted to have some beers to calm my nerves. The Demons better bloody win! Anyway, I reckon it will be a close game. But hopefully we get over the line against the Lions. GO DEMONS!!!! 🔴🔵👹

AFL Under 18 Championships 2023
Supreme_Demon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who ever we take with Freo's (or should our) first AFL Draft pick needs to be an elite kick and elite talent. Elite kicking and elite decision making you can never have too much of in an AFL team. The Melbourne Demons still needs to remedy these deficiencies. Particularly with our connection into the forwardline. Harley Reid would be ideal. But there's no way he lasts past pick 2 or 3. North Melbourne and Hawthorn would definitely snap him up if West Coast didn't. I am also concerned about the risk of taking Tasmanian pair Colby McKercer (who is very impressive) and Ryley Sanders. Primarily due to the impending introduction of a Tasmanian AFL team. But that is to be expected. My possible future draftees for the Demons would be one of Nate Caddy (Northern Knights), Zane Duursma (Gippsland Power), Nick "The Wizard" Watson (Eastern Ranges) and Darcy Wilson (Murray Bushrangers). Anyway, no point speculating too much until the end of the season. There's plenty of time to worry about the 2023 AFL Draft in October onward. -
Jeff White is a very proud Dad! I think it's awesome! Respect to Kalani too for being a humble young fella. Just do your thing Kalani and enjoy playing footy. 😎👍🏻

I think a few others mentioned that Grundy looked "cooked" against the Saints? He probably needed a rest and might be very sore as well. It will be interesting who we have as our sub though. Will it be J. Smith, Dunstan, Chandler or even Grundy?
-
True he does. But he has explained that he does that from a position of love because he has high expectations for the Melbourne Football Club. At least I remember him saying something along those lines after we won the 2021 AFL Premiership. Additionally, I forgot to mention we have former Demons Captains Daisy Pearce (AFLW) and Nathan Jones (AFL) doing special comments too. They both have been pretty good.

While I understand many of us wanted a Home Base in the MCG precinct it seems that unfortunately it wasn't possible. Too many obstacles and problems. All the stakeholders, the NIMBYs in East Melbourne etc just made it too difficult in the shadow of the MCG. A shame.......but it is what it is. While disappointed, I am happy to see a Home Base developed at the Caulfield Racecourse. Something which I think former late Demons champion player and President Stuart Spencer promised over 30 years ago. Better late than never! Anyway, I will wait until we receive official confirmation from the Melbourne Football Club. No point getting ahead of ourselves until they actually start construction. The positive about the Caulfield area is a lot of Melbourne supporters "generally" live around there. I myself used to live not far over in Ormond for about 2 years and regularly saw other Melbourne supporters in Caulfield, Malvern, Glen Huntly and Bentleigh. There is also the opportunity to develop community engagement in the area. Although, we should continue to have community engagement in Casey as well. Particularly as we still have a 30 year deal with the Casey Council and it is a growth area too with many young families.

I think the most important factor is to continue the pressure on the Melbourne Football Club Board. Email (or possibly call?) Board Members. Same with the Melbourne Football Club CEO Gary Pert (who I actually think is doing an excellent job overall and I appreciate he is an extremely busy man). Nevertheless, we need to keep asking the same questions. What is happening with our Home Base? Where will it be built? When will it be built? How long will it take for it to be built? How much will it cost? All fair and reasonable questions. Basically, we simply keep pestering them on a regular basis (not too much of course!). But enough to make sure they are all held accountable. We want all the objectives in our Strategic Plan achieved and that, in particular, includes our Home Base.

67,049 members is a pleasant surprise! I am pleased to be proven wrong! As I thought we would struggle. The win against St. Kilda on Saturday night probably helped. I have been a fanatical Melbourne Demons member since 1998 (obviously not as long as others) and to see us grow from barely having around 20,000 members to now getting close to 70,000 really is an amazing achievement that brings tears of joy to my eyes. Especially because of the hardships our Club has faced over the years during our 57 year Premiership drought. As for a breakdown of membership numbers and the different categories. I think that is a question you need to ask the MFC membership department or in a few months time at the next MFC AGM. Personally, I still think we will be unable to reach 70,000+ members this year. But as I previously said, if we continue to have sustained success then memberships will continue to grow. Winning more Premierships is the key for the Melbourne Demons. We continue to do that and memberships will take care of themselves. Everyone loves winners!

An interesting article here regarding Christian Petracca's chances of winning the 2023 Brownlow Medal. For those interested, the link to the article by Damian Barrett can be found here: https://www.afl.com.au/news/968337/barrett-cruel-twist-that-has-star-melbourne-demon-christian-petracca-on-track-for-brownlow-medal I definitely think that Christian Petracca is a smoky to win it. That is the one silver lining of Clayton Oliver being out injured, I guess. Although I would prefer them to steal Brownlow votes from eachother. However, realistically, the Magpies Nick Daicos is probably the clear favourite for the Brownlow. Nevertheless, I am sure Christian and the rest of us here would prefer he wins another Premiership Medallion and a Norm Smith Medal with the Melbourne Football Club.

I thought Taj played well against the Saints. The new "Woey" was smooth with the ball. No fumbling that I recall. Did a clever kick to the top of the goal square that resulted in a fluke goal for the Demons by Ed Langdon. Shame he didn't kick that goal! When he had a chance later in the game. Hopefully he kicks a goal (or two!) against the Lions this week. Well done SOW (Son Of Woewodin)! 😁

We should get to 65,000 Melbourne Demons members. Getting to 66,000+ might be a struggle. Cost of living hasn't helped. Memberships are expensive! I think unfortunately 70,000-75,000 members is beyond us unless we win another AFL Premiership or two. Sustained success = membership growth!

Time to put the 'Kozzy Form Slump' bias to bed!
Supreme_Demon replied to waynewussell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Kozzie is such a freakish player. He could end up kicking 6 goals against Brisbane this week, you just never know. However, his recent form has been disappointing. I would give him more midfield minutes just so he touches the ball more. His creativity is quite brilliant. Anyway, I don't see any other small forwards really banging down the selector's door to replace Kozzie just yet. Hopefully, Kozzie plays well on Friday night against the Lions. -
I have got another 50 years in me at least. But that may even not be enough time to get a Home Base! 😅😆😂🤣 I think I gotta win about $150 million in the lottery to get it done. 🤞 In all honesty the Melbourne Football Club should have set up a new Home Base fund after we won the AFL Premiership in 2021. We would of all been quite generous and in good spirits plus it would of been a great initiative to at least get the ball rolling with finances required. Anyway, it was good to see that the aquatics centre is getting built down at Casey Fields in that video shown previously. That is actually some progress at least! Albeit not exactly what we want when it comes to an actual Home Base. A positive for Casey though!

All good. 😎👍🏻 I greatly appreciate the explanation. I wasn't familiar with the process of acknowledging milestone games.

Luke Darcy's blatant bias towards St. Kilda on Saturday night was odious. Even though he is a Bulldogs man. But in the end, I don't care too much as Melbourne got the win. I think the issue is besides Garry Lyon, we don't really have many TV commentators who are Melbourne aligned. I have faith in the new online generation of commentators though. Particularly this guy (shown below) by the name of Caden MacDonald who is a passionate Demons supporter and is starting to develop a bit of a following on YouTube. https://youtu.be/Qcx6NxyNfI0 Good luck to the young fella! 😎👍🏻
