  1. given the shape of our forward line I think Jack Watts will play a lot more football than everyone expects next year if we draft him... Bailey showed this year he wasn't afraid to give the kids a go, i don't think it will be any different next year either... i imagine he'll play at least half the games, therefore I've included him in this, and our best 22... it was a toss up between Grimes, Buckley and Petterd for that half back flank position, and I decided to go with grimes... B: Whelan, Martin, Garland HB: Grimes, Rivers, Green C: Morton, McLean, Bruce HF: Davey, Miller, Bate F: Wonaeamirri, Watts, Robertson R: Jamar, Jones, Dunn I: Sylvia, Johnson, Wheatley, McDonald E: Buckley, Warnock, Moloney
  2. there hasn't been much talent in the PSD for some time... look at the PSD's since 2004, nothing in there to get excited about... the only good players to be drafted from it are those who slipped through the national draft... the last time the PSD was decent was 2003 when Stevens and Rawlings were in it... 2004 1 Trent Knobel 2 Blake Caracella 3 Eddie Betts 4 Lance Picioane 5 Jarrad Schofield 6 Ty Zantuck 7 Elijah Ware 2005 1 Dylan McLaren 2 Sam Iles 3 Brent Guerra 4 Scott Camporeale 5 Matthew White 6 Ben Fixter 7 Cameron Thurley 8 Matt Thomas 9 Jason Porplyzia 10 Chris Heffernan 2006 1 Cain Ackland 2 Mal Michael 3 Ben Ross 4 Adam Cockshell 5 Josh Thurgood 6 Kent Kingsley 7 Matthew Clarke 8 Chris Bryan 9 Cameron Cloke 2007 1 David Gourdis 2 Darren Pfeiffer 3 Stefan Martin 4 Scott Welsh 5 John Williams 6 Joshua Head 7 Patrick McGinnity 8 Tom Bellchambers
  3. I really get the feeling Jack has a really good head on his shoulders. I'd imagine he's a smart guy, given he wants to finish year 12 in Melbourne, he goes to a good school, he's no dummy. And unlike a lot of dummy AFL footballers who look for quick success (ie. Chris Johnson, Robbie Warnock), Jack would understand that while Melbourne aren't going to be successful when he joins them in 2009, that the whole system is cyclical, and he would have the opportunity to help build a team which will be in contention for a premiership in 5 years time. I'd get much more satisfaction out of this than being drafted to Hawthorn, being a fringe player in the forward line behind Buddy and Roughead, and fluking a flag in my first year, and I'd imagine Jack feels the same way. Jack doesn't want to play football to play finals in 2009, he wants to play football for 10-15 years, and he understands that clubs can change a lot in that time. And I'd imagine he's keen to be a part of that change at the Melbourne Football Club.
  4. loved the interview with Robbo... you can tell just how much that man bleeds red and blue... he gets criticised alot around here for the way he plays his footy, but noone loves the dees more than this bloke...
  5. this one has me angry... i really rated chris, thought he was going to be a really important player for us... but now instead he's going to that scum... I hope he doesn't make it there and someone else picks him up...
  6. would have thought we would've got someone else in from the outside... Bailey obviously impressed with his work... http://melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/Defau...px?newsid=69391
  7. how many full time assistant coaches commentate football games all weekend and do drive time radio in the week? none, so unless Ox quits the media he won't be our new assistant coach
  8. as far as i stand it the 17 year olds taken outside the draft have to agree to go to the gold coast... the good ones will opt for the draft you'd think and then run the gauntlet of being taken by the gold coast's share of draft picks the following year... having said that those draft picks, will most likely be traded for more experienced players to ensure the team isn't full of kids and gets smashed every week to begin with...
  9. thanks for the link, this from CC made me laugh
  10. the casey council deal would be somewhat seperate to the scorpions deal... we could not have a base out at casey, yet still have our players play with the scorpions... however it would be extremely disappointing if this deal falls through...
  11. look at his hands in those highlights... he just reads the ball so well... combine that with the pace he's shown at the draft camp and tell me that he won't be a great key forward of the game...
  12. worst idea ever Tasmania = passionate aussie rules community New Zealand = Aussie Rules bro? what's that bro?
  13. we won't get him in a trade, he won't want to come to us... why would he want to come to a club, which isn't going to threaten for a flag during his career? the only way he'd possibly be in red and blue, is if a deal is not brokered and he ends up in the PSD...
  14. i've updated the list... still a few players we're unsure of, but we can work on that over time... a lot should come out of the wash in the next few weeks...
  15. lets say warnock is traded to the blues, and we nab primall but ROK slips through to the PSD... would we take him if there was noone else there? would he bring more value over the next 3-5 years than what a young draftee at this stage may offer over his career?
  16. you keep telling us to pick Vickery, you seem to be the only one... you a mate of his or something? care to outline why ? forgive me if you have somewhere and I missed it, but i'm interested why you mention this guy in every 2nd post yet no one else rates him as highly...
  17. exactly... all things going to plan, our window will open in about 5 years time, placing Green at 32... he hasn't had many injury problems, there's no reason he couldn't contribute at that age to a premiership side...
  18. number 1 pick i believe = Luke Hodge and could've been Chris Judd as for dealing with Richmond, CC is likely to have his views on our players, but at the same time he never watched the MFC train or play much... his job was to be out looking at TAC cup football, watching the kids that were yet to come through... so while like all recruiting managers he would remember a lot about the kids before they were drafted, he wouldn't have in depth knowledge of our players development since... if anything, CC might have a favourite which he would be willing to pay more than the market rate for... the club that would have that knowledge is west coast, with ND assuming a football department position there...
  19. even if we do all clubs will be disadvantaged by the draft concessions they are receiving... if you finish 9th next year, rather than getting pick 8 you're looking at pick 18... wheras if you finsh last you get pick 4... what's a bigger drop? 1 > 4 or 8 > 18?
  20. 6. M. Whelan 5. S. Valenti 4. J. McDonald 3. S. Martin 2. S. Buckley 1. A. Maric / J. Frawley
  21. that's fantastic... i laughed heaps during that... "Get Strauchnie on the line" hahahaha good movie that too, great performance...
  22. hopefully Miller is back... i can't believe people don't think we need to add something to our forward line this week... the cats defence will destroy us if we don't have a strong target back there... even if it's just dutchy sitting in the square, with aussie roving to him, it will be a much better option than pagans paddock with Colin Sylvia playing Wayne Carey, especially against the cats...
  23. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story...5012432,00.html disappointing Fox has withdrawn... I think the club should really pursue him harder if they think he is the man... really make him think about withdrawing his application...
  24. really the poll should be 100% yes... we can beat Geelong... they only won by 5 goals down at the cattery earlier in the year, and we gave them a run for their money... it is possible... do I think we'll beat Geelong? no... what's the line this week?
