  1. ditto There is absolutely no sense in keeping a bloke on the list ( even rookie ) getting paid... when the upside is miniscule at best. Just pointless. To those who suggest a trade....you can only do that when theres a plus-plus between dealers. He has no trade currency, thats just reality. Good luck John, must be very disappointing to have worked out this way.
  2. ralph...nice waffle So Meesen and Newton werent demoted ?? call it what you like it was a contrived demotion. Opening up rookie spots alows for exactly such a process again ,should it be deemed worthwhile. Its all part of the overall list management. Do you think the club ignores it ?
  3. Totally convoluted and unrealistic if no mention of Meesen Newton , Hughes nor Healey can be had... nor demoting to rookie etc as thats a legitimate and precedented practice. No unrealistic scenariojs ?? This thread must surely be a contradiction in terms
  4. Who cares ... Lol they were true
  5. It still amazes me anyone is allowed to take to the field who can't hit a team mate on the chest over 30-40 m. It just ought to be a given at afl level !!!! clearly it's not . Can't blame the ball as everyones using same one, some can kick some can't, bloody frustrating. The rain deprived us of our clean feet , dry hands and run. We need to develop an ugly winning game as well as the nice pacey one. Was Dunn wearing the right stops ?
  6. I wouldnt go quite so far as say doomed but definitely it changed the effectiveness of our style to date. Ironic that the official conditions were "fine" geez hate to see a bad day..lol. That aside the Hawks just semed a little more composed this wont always be the case. The real difference between the two teams on the day to me seemed to be the turnovers. We literally gifted them the game in all reality. Take away half a dozen clangers and the game was ours. But Hawthorn caused or encouraged those clangers. They created the moments where indecision reigned and we delivered.. Bailey would have pulled hair...had he. We didnt play a bad game... It was pretty good for the most part. Hawthorns was just a bit better. Some late goals belied the real eveness. Some strange umping here and there but isnt there always and wont grant them the game deciding as some might. We still seemed suprised ( the team it seems ) that they are as competitve as they are and get caught napping. This is mainly the preserve of a handful of players but they will get better or others will take their spots. Though Jamar probably the most effective ruck Hawthorn were far more effective at getting the ball out of clearances. But some perspective. Hawthorn had a hard day at the office. They will not be so happy to met us in the future. Hawthorn arent much better than we saw yesterday but Melbourne still has some way to go. They were more battle hardened ( as a group ) and that was the winning trump yesterday. Wont always be the case. Where we are now compared to where we're expected to be is satisfying. There is much improvement still to come. we lost because we werent quite good enough to win. That will change
  7. Bail - Solid running contribution Bartram - the good ..(overall games ) the bad..disposal.. Bennell - some great endeavour...needs to be more consistent..getting there Bruce - A very good game.. needed to stay on Hodge ( not his fault ) Davey - bugger Dunn - they worked him out... He can bounce back Frawley - work cut out.. some woeful umping. Great effort Garland - hmm..bit rusty off the foot there Col Green - was covered well for the most part Jamar - Stellar...simply great Johnson - a few good bits.. needs far more Jones - good game... keep at it Jurrah - Glimpses of brilliance.. not really his day though JoelMacDonald - surely no more doubters JnrMcDonald - keeps on keeping on Rivers - Some good ..some not so good. ( sorry just not convinced here ) Scully -pepetual motion...needs inmproved foot disposals Sylvia - a rock Trengove - good but not great game.. Looking forward to next season Watts - Like this guy but christ hes frustrating... JUST DO IT !!! Wonaemirri - weve missed him McKenzie - nuggety
  8. So many arrows to his quiver. Guys a gem Some might have been drawn to their demise in such a long off time and heres a bloke who makes a silk purse out of a sours ear. Well done Col... am impressed
  9. Had a little laugh at al that. Here we have some impotent leaguers thinking they were important !! A bit of we can if you can sort of school yard mouthing off. Highly unlikely to get beyond a laugh-fest. Yes any code ought to not confine its net to just its own back yard but this smacks of embarassment more than any reality. Poor little NRL... so irrelevent in the greta scheme of things !!
  10. Still means 3/4 don't !!!
  11. Hence Warnock on the standby.. Still , the way we need to go about this game is all hands to the ready from that first bounce. We need to attack fiercely and hunt them. They haven't done too well when pressure applied early and we can do it if the ticker is there. We have to hurt them and early . Need to force buddy up the ground and that will negate his influence. Clarko will be desperate to stop our run and will want stoppage after stoppage but just as the Swannies showed you can play that to advantage. The sqawkers beat us only when they jump us and make us play catch up . They are no better. Russian will define this game.. On song and first advantage we can break them open .. They bleed they can be beaten.Peterson is a dark horse (npi) needs to be contained.Hawks like to hunt but aren't so good when they are the prey. Time to cook some birds
  12. Its tempting to just dismiss out of hand....but Laidley is reknown for his ability as a match tactician. Is this Bail's forte ? well certainly not his long suit, though he is seemingly getting much better results. Its a funny question...ought to be obvious but isnt
  13. now theres a fresh breath of confidence. :) fits in with what many of us suspected..it aint broke..no fix required
  14. still if nothing else we no he's not shy of a bit of man-o-man stuff.
  15. Hats off to cuddles for putting the club ahead of getting some folk bent out of shape . Takes balls . Were very lucky to have so many professionals who are died in the wool Demons
  16. Yes we do overlook some of these guys ages at times . Another aspect is it's very rare for anyone to maintain a particular rate of development. Some of these guys will ebb and flow a bit on their way up. Cales a bit flat currently but like many others will spark again. Think forward and another year and 20 odd games ought have him in sparking Nick with prob a bit more meat to boot.
  17. Im ready for that...I can live with such animosity !!
  18. At the risk of muddying metaphors.. and the Phoenix arose in the form of a Demon !! Again noting that we grew from a ground and as such so represented the classic Saturday arvo Melburnian past-time, this to I would love see as a hallmark of our club. Love to see us play more games on the Sat arvo ...even if this doesnt sit in amongst the great scheme of Anderson-Demetriou. That aside I think there is genuine applause from the greater footy family happy that such an icon of the game is finding new favour and success. I dont actually know anyone who hates Melbourne.. ( can lose count of those who show this towards Collingwood Carlton...even Essendon ) We are quite different in this league
  19. This seems about closest to the reality of things. I semto recall Gotch thinking he needs to improve a little ...as per : " I still would have liked to have seen a little bit more intensity as far as pressure on the opposition, and that’s probably why he’s a bit down at the minute. He’s just got to add that to his game a lot more." Needs to be a little more bi-drectional in efforts. Ability , talent in spades....apllication needs augmenting. he'll be back
  20. All warm and fuzzy !! Theres a chnage in how the rest of footy world is seeing us know. even a mate ( Filth ) commented "it's great to see you guys back up and running"......" been a while in the wilderness hasnt it !!" And it certainly was. Agree Deeoldfart....we ARE a club...not just a team !!
  21. Never never let a snicked kick become a goal..its unique and its just part of the game. Heartbreaking at times...but thats footy !! Off limits !! No caps is my preference but prepared to see what results would be garnered via the preseason games before deciding. 3 int and a sub ( or even two ) might be interesting..best of both worlds.. Allows for significant injuries ( to be catered to) in game whilst forcing coaches to be more prudent with adhoc interchanging. Worth a trial in preaseason also NO SNICKED GOALS !!!!!
  22. cant see Grimes being risked by being rushed . A return to VFL and then a soid preseason prior to 2011 surely
  23. A very physical match franklin kept to 3 Dees by 5 points in a nail biter
  24. Maybe !!
