I like the way soem seem to want to suggest ......hey its all ok really , over all. The occasional late pick that over achieves v the high picks who crashed. This quite frankly is crap. Any overs we get from late picks are simply bonus, they ought not be compensation for any lack of success higher in the order. Those high picks should return higher gains..But we havent really had a fair return on these picks over the years and no amount of occasional joy from the lower ranks ought to be seem as some sort of rebalance.

Instead of trying to cut and dice this up or down Im happy to observe it holistically...We stuffed it for quite a while. How do I know this, I just look at where we are and compare. For all our high picks , in fact for all our picks we reaaly have little to write home about I dont think for may years our development's been much chop. Its taken a hell of a long while for some guys to come on. We seem to have more than our fair share of lemons . Some think thats harsh but I dont see this as a neighborhood footy club, its business. The business is to win. We dont and we havent in any meaningful way for a hell of a long time. So for me its a combinational effect. We havent had enough of hte right types and havent had the right facilites and direction to realise the abilites of those we brought to the club. Hopefully this is to change.

There has to be a balance between enlightened and left field type recruitig and the pragmatic.. .......and sometimes the balance tilts.

Well I wish the lad well and hope he can sought out his troubles. Hes between a rock and a harder place more often and some of his own construct. I have no particular feeling that he'll front for us again, more the shame. It just seems one of those spiralling ever decreasing circle type messes doesnt it. You never know I suppose but im not putting money on it. God this year sucks !!

yep...a hard fought ,drawn out slog of a game with many injuries..... if there's any justice !!

Hindsight IS the tool of evaluation. It offer a time point at which you can see an event take place and then give it context as and how it eventually affected things right up to the point of actual view( i.e hindsight) So we can quite readily deduce that despite anyones best intentions and efforts we really dont have a lot to show for those 7-8 years. For if we did we wouldnt be in this groundhog day of a situation whereby we starea build in the face, yet again.

Does the rise of McDonald spell the end for Rivers?
beelzebub replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
You seem to miss the idea that thats exactly what Neeld and co are looking to do EOS. They have flagged their intention to get some harder bodied , experienced "older' type aboard. -

Does the rise of McDonald spell the end for Rivers?
beelzebub replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Thats entirely plausible....buying it.The defence profers evidence 101a....The individual known as Clark !! In his 11 games to date he exhibited daredo than many. Hes here 5 mins and he takes on the mantel of "dont [censored] with the jumper". So strangely yes, it seems you can buy a fighting spirit, or rather you can buy those that have it. edit: random observation...how odd he played 11 games this year !! -
Does the rise of McDonald spell the end for Rivers?
beelzebub replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Given we havent been entirely gushing in success for 48 years i respectfully suggest it hasnt been there, let alone taken away !! -
I think he'll stay but purely as a result of agreeing to terms, nothing more simister than that

Keep in mind when Neeld came on voard he to a point respected some who were entrenched. Whilst he made it known where he thought the holes were he ( I take it ) left it mainly to those in tehfd/recruiting to call it on draft day. Yes Neeld was very active in getting Clark but I read it only passingly a hand in any absolutes int e nominees last draft. This will not happen this year. His stamp will be all over selections. Neeld a 'teacher' . He has intuition as to who can be taught. Will be very interesting to see the picks this year. I dont think many of the sins of the past will be repeated this year

List our current Top 10 on playing list (August 2012)
beelzebub replied to jurrahcane's topic in Melbourne Demons
Clark Jones. Frawley Grimes Watts Jamar Trengove Howe Blease McDonald For mine Jurrah ( and Im a fan ) forfeits any right to the top ten until he does something meaningful to reclaim his position. Were talking 2012 and hes been away. We all know why but that doesnt change the outcome. -
Does the rise of McDonald spell the end for Rivers?
beelzebub replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
Heres somethng for some to ponder.. Rivers oughtnt be top 22 if we are to be successful. His year has been OK..., nothing miraculous, nothing stellar, just ploddingly OK. If we are to be anything we have to move on beyond the likes of Jared still being considered. Its not meant as a slight to Rivers, he does try. Its condemnation of where our list still lays. It needs radical additions. Bring on EOS -

Hes a F A If we offer little he can walk...and he might. Be handy to gc or gws in their starting 22. For us hes a bit of insurance and depth going forward . Cant see him really figuring in Neelds grand plan. -

beelzebub replied to Dr. Gonzo's topic in Melbourne Demons
lol..... reputable ?? this guys turned in some wonderful aricles in recent times. Wouldnt beleive too much of what he comes up with. Hes very hit and miss -
Id love to know by what markers do those that feel Neeld is going down the wrong track measure things by. If its the abillity of some or the many to carry out a role or game plan thenb ask yourslef: is it really theplan or the ability of those tasked? The style of play required is testing but that to me says more of the medicocrity that passed as a team than it does of any misdirectionof those in charge. Some who suggest Neeld is barking up the wrong tree and losing the players must surely overate many of our exisitng list. That they struggle says more of them than the task. Its the sam etask asked by other clubs. Successful clubs have players that can play to higher asks. we dont have many at all. This year has shown to the FD who can and who cant and who might, with further mentoring. The only thing thats certain is the path we were on was sending us to a grave.

Contract discussions put on hold for eleven Demons
beelzebub replied to DemonDave's topic in Melbourne Demons
i think thats about 90% on the money. Dunn does seem to have some favour, but so does Joel...as to rest, thats pretty much how I see it, here or there, give or take.So much will depend on who surfaces in the silly season. What i do liek is we arent being conned into early signings of contracts. Weve been gouged and bitten big time in the past because of being panicked into signings. Neeld plays a good game of poker I think. Those who might also think all things will be fic=xed this EOS need to take a deep breath. It will take at least one more year but its will be a healthy start !! -
A precept for rational discussion is a viable and reasoned topic.. Sadly this isnt a well thought out subject. Its either imflamatory, inciteful or trolling. pick one doesnt matter

I ve often wondered whetherh it was purely coincidental or actually circumstantial. He does seem to be there currently simply becuase he is contracted. I suppose we'll knwo soon enough once the circus hits town.
