  1. where does that article that talks about stride and the dees talking about him signing up come from? i would be ecstatic about that. and $1m per season? puh-lease. post-2017, the landscape changes enormously - the solid dependable players could be earning that sort of cash, the (potential) superstars like hogan will command closer to $1.5-2m per season if the aflpa gets their way and player salaries are tied to 25% of all revenue in the game.
  2. Interesting comparison with Farren Ray. Since leaving to go to the Saints he's gone from much maligned top 5 pick to a classic good ordinary player who has played in excess of 200 games. I think in terms of a 'fresh start' the best thing for Jimmy to do is go elsewhere. For what it's worth, it was Ray and pick 48 (nick heyne) for pick 31 (Jordan Roughead).
  3. I agree with others actually, I think it's a good thing that we don't leak.
  4. parish balic wiedeman mathieson francis curnow seem to be the ones that there's chatter about. tucker's stocks have well and truly fallen. parish will be gone unless somehow we end of moving up a pick; isn't he the one the bombers are meant to be keen on? if blues lose kruezer they will inevitably land a pick directly after their top pick for him, pushing us further down the draft. i personally think they should let him go - very good player but terribly injury prone. i really like the sound of wiedeman, but hard to judge cos he's missed so much footy.
  5. would love it if we could come in late and land a player such as treloar. unlikely. the only real stories around melbourne are that we are chasing lynch, likely to lose howe, and have enquired about every decent midfielder in the comp as well as a couple of fringe gws talls.
  6. also not strictly true of thompson. he was a lock in our side in his last year for us, then broke his arm, and when he got fit we were flying so it was tough to break back in.
  7. Toumpas could be a bit like Ben Jacobs for North - joined a poor side, was gifted games in which he made a litany of errors and looked miles off the pace, and has taken til he's four seasons and a different role at a different club to come on. Was also a first round pick (albeit late, in a weak and diluted draft). I can't see Toumpas making it at Melbourne.
  8. Toumpas is clearly trade bait, and has very little value. Third round pick, at best, or part of a package you'd expect.
  9. Also Roos was never held up as a 'messiah' by the rank and file on here and in the outer at the G. That was (another) media creation.
  10. - 51 seasons without a premiership - 2 grand final appearances in that time - 12 finals appearances in the last 51 seasons - a litany of off-field disasters including a failed merger that we (would like to think was thanks to vote-stacking) voted in favour of, the 'not tanking' tanking scandal - a host of failed draft picks who were meant to help us become a better side - top draft picks walking out of the club on a regular basis (thompson, scully) - past greats being struck with bizarre illnesses causing their deaths at a young age (i still blame jolimont oval) - past players and board members taking potshots at the club on a regular basis - no dedicated 'home base' because we gave ours away to first richmond and then every other club - a general sense of nothingness to the club - tried and true 30k supporters who have stuck fat through the litany of failures being told they're 'negative' on a regular basis damn right we are!
  11. So I've heard today that he wants $700k. I am presuming that he's having a laff, and just wants out of the Dees.
  12. there's every chance that dawes has a year left in him. he's crocked. this could well be why lynch is a priority.
  13. the velvet sledgehammer is a moron. worst 'commentator' in the business.
  14. IN: Jetta, Tyson, Spencer OUT: Lumumba (inj.), Brayshaw (rest), insert-mystery-injured-player-here
  15. Father-son assured! Will be lucky to get a second round pick for him.
  16. I have a theory that whenever Grimes plays well we have a whole played badly - he's not the player you want having oodles of possessions as he's simply not a good enough user of the ball. I maintain my dream trade scenario outlined above is still the dream...however unlikely it may be. Also, what's all this about Hogan being likely to request a trade at the end of this year or the next? Couldn't blame him, I would not want to play for the rabble that is the MFC either.
  17. i certainly can't possibly believe that he'd get $500k from us or on the open market. he's a below average footballer playing in a below average side.
  18. yep, i'm the same. why bother buying a real true dinks membership. armchair and set the attention span to 'ignore' as this team is too pathetic to bother with.
  19. i want him gone. he won't help us get better.
  20. Don't think I've ever left a game at quarter time. There's a first for everything!!
