  1. big difference is t mac was there in jlt1, and he was - from memory - a constant threat up forward, combining with hogan pedo is a solid servant, but t mac is far more talented from memory garlett didn't play?
  2. i'd hazard a guess, if hogan isn't in it, that these are the top 6 untradeables: gawn, oliver, petracca, viney, t mac, jones (plus all the other veterans like jones by default, more or less)
  3. salem may also have been playing a run-with player on dayne beams, whose influence was curtailed
  4. Twins will do that to you!

Great post I think it’s going to be a very even season this year and every goal counts - that’s part of why I was so pleased that Fritsch kicked that goal late I think, in fairness to Goodwin, if not Viney then he certainly prepared the season with T Mac playing not just the role that Pedo is but also closer to goal He’s had to adjust things on the fly - just as he had to do last year with the suspension / injury / cancer run of incident, and he’s fairly good at making changes What I don’t understand is why the messaging seems to take so long to get through - our players don’t seem to be able to work through a run-on from the oppo; i don’t know if this is a coaching or a leadership on field issue When they flash to the box he always looks concerned which makes ME concerned or, as Dockett 32 pointed out, stomping around the house At the moment the coaching dept as a whole gets a pass mark, but really we should have made finals last year Finals this year or they’re all going to be under massive pressure in 2019
  6. As a rule, Goodwin doesn’t seem to like the come in / go out ethos Based upon the Casey reports, it would seem that those pushing for selection are Frost, Brayshaw, Kent, Hannan, and to a lesser extent Weideman, plus Stretch was again the travelling emergency, which means he’s barely had a skerrick of actual competitive football since JLT2 I don’t recall any injuries, Fritsch excepted, and he came back on and didn’t look under any particularly massive stress with that lovely goal after the siren The players that would seem to be under the most pressure to hold their spots would seem to be: Salem (not finding the ball as a mid) Hunt (not finding the ball or offering much rebound from half-back) Bugg (ineffectual in front of goal) Pedersen (ineffective as a tall forward target, but provides a vital ruck chop-out for Max) Melksham (not hitting the scoreboard nor limiting oppo defensive rebound) Wagner (not particularly effective offensively, but is solid if unspectacular defensively) Jetta (been crucified two weeks in a row by the best oppo small) Frost to cover Waite would make sense, but does it mean we are top heavy down back and won’t have the ‘bounce’ off half-back that Hunt is supposed to provide? My best guess at this stage is: OUT: Salem, Hunt IN: Frost, Brayshaw Which means: B: Jetta - O Mac - Frost HB: Vince - Lever - Hibberd C: Jones - Tyson - Lewis HF: ANB - Pedersen - Melksham F: Fritsch - Hogan - Garlett Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Petracca I/c: Harmes - Brayshaw - Bugg - Wagner Emerg: Salem - Kent - Weideman - Hunt Which in reality is more like: Jetta - O Mac Vince - Lever - Frost - Hibberd - Lewis Gawn - Oliver - Petracca - Tyson - ANB - Jones Fritsch - Pedersen - Melksham Hogan - Garlett Bench: Harmes - Brayshaw - Bugg - Wagner

gawn was recovering from a knee injury and built like a twig when he joined us
  9. thread is good: 1. no major injuries 2. no suspensions 3. we got blown away in 20 minutes and fought back brilliantly, had it back to less than a goal the diff at 3/4 time, and held them to 2.5 after half time
  10. cortisone is one of the most common treatments for pain and inflammation i wonder whether t mac has a case of turf toe, perhaps caused by pushing off repeatedly when running or jumping for ruck contests?

this i also think it has to be factored in that he and curnow are very different sorts of players for us, hogan plays the curnow role weideman will ideally be able to pinch hit in the ruck as well as be a tall marking option it would be fab to have curnow, but it'd also be fab to have martin, fyfe, sloane etc. etc - we have to work with what we've got not worry about what we didn't i'm still convinced weid will be a very good player for us
  12. yes and no there's two issues at play here from my perspective: 1) injury diagnosis and treatment is either incorrect or mismanaged 2) communication of the above is poorly done, leading to the charge of the club lying to the media / supporter base my concern is we've had comms since end of season last year that viney would be 'right for round 1', when pretty much no one believes that the bigger issue is that t mac played aflx on that wretched carpark and then jlt1 when - according to our medical staff - already suffering from an injury that was being managed the only question for the latter is 'why??'
  13. it'll be very interesting to see what the club does about our injury management and medical expertise it seems more and more that there is an issue with that aspect of the club
  14. they generally toe the line, but purple barrett tends to sink the slipper
  15. AFL media is not the afl; independent editorial
  16. slower than blease, faster than trengove!
  17. I personally think we’re going to need him to play default chf if t mac is missing
  18. I actually think the crux of the article was more about the change in player attitudes and behaviour
  19. Couch went hard on this tonight on fox footy Seems that, regardless of whether it was flippant or not, Goodwin did indeed offer his resignation https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/simon-goodwin-flippantly-offered-resignation-as-melbourne-coach-after-preseason-camp-was-canned/news-story/ad3596ab3ffd626df318806e281d0b6b

My kids all had Dees pjs They had Schwab’s logo all over them at weird angles everywhere
  21. no way the afl will split from asada if it means they stop getting all the govt funding that is a requirement for asada agreement
  22. i presume you mean brett lovett? my 33 years watching the dees i'd go this as order of great defenders for the dees: 1. sean wight 2. alan johnson (expecting this spot to very quickly be filled by lever, but really he could end up being the best defender we've had) 3. brett lovett 4. matthew whelan 5. adem yze 6. jared rivers 7. graeme yeats 8. james frawley 9. neville jetta 10. anthony ingerson
  23. t mac report - another metatarsal injury ffs: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/melbourne-swingman-tom-mcdonald-in-doubt-for-round-1-clash-with-geelong-at-the-mcg/news-story/47f971e45c3636e4fef6068f80175a56 looks like jones needs injections to manage his back, and lewis is battling
