  1. when you look at that, we really haven't had many indigenous players in comparison with other clubs, have we? i'd go: aaron davey nev jetta jeff farmer eddie jackson matthew whelan andy lovell jeff garlett sean charles liam jurrah austin wonnaemirri if may, kozzy pickett, and bedford become regular senior players they'll rocket into the top 10
  2. yeah, it's not good is it they are saying that players will be available as 'supplementary' players in the need of circumstances but how that will work in a practrical sense i have no idea a reduction to 35 on a list would definitely mean that you wouldn't be willing to 'carry' injured players
  3. @Satyriconhome, it's not unsubstantiated and it's not a rumour presuming you mean 2019? at one stage i think we had 26 players to pick from... this makes sense to me too although they may think that with reduction of quarter lengths to 16 mins + time on that the wear and tear on bodies will be reduced anyway, negating the need for on-field reductions
  4. they clearly need to focus on the priorities, which is CLEARLY g & t, light on the t!
  5. i literally just read that: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/27/global-condom-shortage-coronavirus-shuts-down-production baby boom 2.0
  6. would welcome him back in a heartbeat but i doubt it'll happen
  7. what's the win:loss record for games jack martin has played in? not including those that he's been injured in... he's not that good
  8. one of the bizarre things doing the rounds at the moment is that list squads will be reduced to 35, which - given our propensity for injury - doesn't seem like nearly enough apaz clubs will be able to sign players on short term waiver wires, much as clubs do in international sports but, for curiosity's sake, who would survive the chop at the dees? steven may nathan jones christian salem james harmes christian petracca luke jackson jack viney jake lever charlie spargo angus brayshaw max gawn toby bedford clayton oliver michael hibberd ed langdon jake melksham mitch hannan adam tomlinson brayden preuss james jordon trent rivers tom mcdonald sam weideman oscar mcdonald alex neal-bullen bayley fritsch tom sparrow marty hore harrison petty kysaiah pickett neville jetta jay lockhart kyle dunkley first pick second pick this is on the presumption that at the end of this year you only need to add two picks rather than the standard three... lots of squads around the league will look seriously short of depth; ours included if jones and hibberd retire, who makes it through? brown? a perennial injury like avb or smith?
  9. another option - by far my preferred one - is that the afl finally embraces it's quasi-socialism and instead of clubs making revenue on gate takings, finals, merchandise etc., the afl takes it ALL and splits all revenues such as those, as well as broadcast rights etc., evenly between the 18 clubs no more haves and have-nots, but instead everyone is on an equal footing
  10. we're merging with caaaaaaaaaaarlton; there's no such thing that visy can't 'fix'! also, jake niall has published this: But the biggest question of all will be the future of the 18 clubs. Had this calamity happened before expansion, there wouldn't be a Gold Coast or Greater Western Sydney and it's unclear whether AFLW would exist either. A couple of Victorian clubs, too, would be in danger of disappearing or being relocated to Gold Coast/Tasmania. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/amid-the-afl-s-great-depression-who-takes-the-hit-20200326-p54e56.html
  11. and jack martin, for those who stressed about missing out on him... B: Jetta - May - Weitering HB: Docherty - Lever - Salem ? Walsh - Cripps - Langdon HF: Petracca - Curnow - Martin F: McKay - T Mac - Betts Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney I/c: Marchbank - Melksham - Petrevski-Seton - Pickett ?
  12. no, i don't think it's the best model, just the 'best model' that the afl might be look at
  13. because they weren't expecting covid-19 to cut a swathe thru the world economy?
  14. unfortunately it very well may be needed in an ideal world a 12 or 14 team national afl competition would be the ideal 'model' with 22 or 26 games - and doing away completely with the pre-season rubbish - allows everyone playing home and away sadly, those thinking that we'd be part of that need to think again 16 min quarters plus time on will be here to stay as well
  15. the prospect of clubs being forced to merge as a result of this crisis is real - the senior reporters are all running with that at the moment, so i personally would rather our senior personnel don't run with the 'we'll be okay' narrative of the likes of north, saints, and gc17 because, quite simply, you really can't be that confident
  16. giving the great jakovich a bad name
  17. He wanted ridiculous money that only Carlton was prepared to pay him
  18. Won’t work; too poor by foot and doesn’t run defensively
  19. That 50% pay cut is only til June
  20. i imagine it was a difficult circumstance to play in, but that doesn't exclude the lack of effort and basic skill execution, not to mention the complete lack of cohesive game plan and structure if the season ever resumes, it will be interesting to see how we come back - after a seemingly positive pre-season, that was a massive let-down we did play the team that is likely to be right in premiership contention on their home deck in warm and extrezzo unusual conditions but my goodness...we ain't good
  21. our players pick and choose when to run and when not to do so laziest club in the competition
  22. nothing has changed bog ordinary player, massive disappointment
  23. saints turn to resemble witch's hats in the third quarter
  24. north look terrible
  25. very similar in size and shape to fritsch, melksham tho? he's had a very good first tho for sure
