There appears to be a general presumption Voss was sacked because a better coach has already signed or has committed to the Lions. This overlooks the fact that Voss has been coach for almost 5 years and has not really done anything special. Nor does he ever come across as an exceptional coach. Nor did his special comments on 10 reveal a great footy brain. And the less said about his recruiting coups, the better (unless you like to point and laugh, but that would hardly be the done thing for a Melbourne fan). He coached a reasonable squad to the finals in his first year, but Black, Brown and Power (and, of course, Travis Johnstone) were still influencing games. And the Lions have had some good wins this year, but they are nevertheless 13th. In short: Voss's time is up.

I think we know the answer to that. They don't sell (m)any Ages and Herald Suns in Queensland.

Roos without Ross Lyon is a less attractive prospect, anyway.
