I had forgotten Cross was playing until I heard his name mentioned on the radio in the last quarter.

Ditto the lack of a forward line. We also lacked pace when a break was on. The Saints were able to close us down too easily. We were also unable to open space between our forwards and their defenders. AND!!!!! For crying out loud, when are we ever going to be able to hit a leading target without sitting the ball on or over his head?!?!? We've been doing it for years.

Glass half full. I've barracked for Melbourne more than twice as long as I barracked for Carlton.

Barrack for another team? Yeah, right. Why would anyone do anything so daft? Can't imagine the stupidity it would take to change sides; to change to a team other than Melbourne; to go to the footy or watch telly and cheer for another team. Utterly bizarre. I would never, ever barrack for a team other than Melbourne. (Except for those 16 years I barracked for Carlton.)

I couldn't care less about players coming on and off, the number of trainers and runners on the ground, the number of rotations, the substitute, and the rest of the AFL non-issue issues.

The AFL will get into the act and set up a training fees working group with an aim to have a family friendly training fee structure in place by 2015.

From the footage I saw on the Demon website, Hunt looked the best player out of Salem, JKH and Hunt.

How many Demonlanders have seen these kids play? And subsequent to that, how many of the Demonlanders who have seen these kids play are good judges of a footballer?

Assess the relative commentary about Ablett and Buddy compared with $cully. For the former two the line went something like "Gazza & Buddy have won flags and paid their dues and earned their big pay day." For the latter it went something like "$cully could not wait to get out of the Demon basket case."

It gave our many critics a chance to say - read: have another free hit - that $cully wanting to leave is symptomatic of Melbourne being a shambles.

Fortunately the Demons embarked on a campaign to exaggerate $cully's value, and as a result we ended up with a very good trade. The $cully situation reflected poorly on Melbourne and fitted neatly with the "Demon shambles" narrative, but in the long run, fingers crossed, we probably dodged a bullet.

I shudder just that little bit more violently every time I see "Next years guernsey" without the apostrophe.
