Yes and according to you Nathan Jones is the worst AFL player you've ever seen. Bartlett said he was gone.... where? On one hand you heard he did his ACL and will be out for most of the season and on the other you say that KB wasnt very descriptive. Who exactly doesnt see him as a required player at Melbourne? I know something and I would be happy to enlighten you but fortunately for you there are rules and limiting my ability to express this in words.
-
Id be assuming her name wasn't Jones then. Cant think of any chunky, tree trunk shaped, bald, famous sportswomen.
-
Yeah, but then I thought he played well and many demonlanders put him in their votes. He got a bit of the footy and we shall see if he can move forward with a bit of confidence and become a handy player for us. Confidence is a massive part of decision making.
-
Fair enough J you are right to point out the error, but I dont think M2W has deliberately made it up. I am sure from what I know of M2W it is just an error. I personally felt that Frawley's game was reasonable and I for one has serious doubts about him. I am still unsure of his ability to handle a power forward but he showed enough Sat night to show he could be a useful player. Cheney showed a little bit too and I thought his disposal and decsion making were a feature.
-
Agreed, I thought he was very good. 70-80% you can read either way. 96% is indisputably good.

What I wanted to see was a competitive outfit against the reigning premiers slug it out and show that they can mix it up. I also wanted to see a strong effective midfield and some run from the back throught the middle with some purpose. Regardless of the disappointing result we have a number of players who could develop into excellent footballers. We have also discovered a ruckman. We have some perennial offenders who make poor decisions under pressure. We also have a couple of players who do not play with enough intensity and a number of young players waiting in the wings to take thier place. We lack system and efficiency in the forward line and we are just not potent enough.
-
Agreed Wiseblood, young sides have a tendency to choke and this will happen again. A few of our blokes mad poor decision under pressure. Other than that most players showed reasonable intensity, our skill level looked OK, some young players put there name forward and we were more than competitive. We coulda should won but we didn't. We still have players who continue to disappoint and who fail to show the necessary maturity and intensity and with this I am disapponted.

6 Green 5 Mclean 4 Frawley 3 Bate 2 Davey 1 Spencer
-
Spencer moves well, likes the responsibilty, strong, and courageaous and must have decent fitness as he has rucked nearly the whole game. Early days but he could be the answer to our rucking problems. Enjoying Frawley's game. Bate is a confidence player.
-
Spencer, Frawley and Cheney impressive. Grimes just starting to show some class.
-
yeah, bate is leading out of square most of the time. dunno who is on him, dont tend to notice the opposition, his kicking for goal has been good, unfortunately miller's has been poor. chook is in everything as is green. petterd and whelan are two very courageous players. cheney and in particular spencerhave been very impressive. miller has struggled with his kicking but has been a target. davey is classy and has executed well. bartram has been busy and is a little more composed. frawley has shown a bit more poise. PJ has done some nice things and looks in prime shape. there are a number of players whose output is down and a couple who are really struggling and panicing. no sign of bail yet. bruce has hurt his shoulder, aussie has done a hammy, and junior has come off for the day.
-
matty whelan is great, daveys skills standing out. cheney has been good in clinches. still serious lack of forward targets.
-
Spencer is very impressive. Has shown good skills, strength and poise. Seems to move well.

Yeah players shouldn have to earn a spot, they should just be played just to satisfy the curiosity of supporters. Do you want to create a team who have to earn every opportunity, prove to the teammates and coach that they are worthy of wearing the jumper and cherish every minute of game time they get? Thats what I want.
-
Ditto, Dunn cannot take the ball above his head which somewhat limits his ability to play as a key or even back up forward. Surprised at the disclusion of Petterd in many sides. IMO an injury free Petterd will be best 22. He has gone along quietly but I expect him to make an impact this year.

I share your concerns about sponsorship but I don't think your concerns about being kept in the dark are legitimate. It fact the matters that you are reffering to are matters for the club and should and will only be released at the right time. This actually reflects positively on the club. Ie: It would be irresponsible and unprofessional to release details of a potential sponsorship deal until the deal was done.

Agreed, I dont think we will see JW much this year. This is a big year in his development as a person and footballer and he, his family and the club won't want to throw him too the wolves just yet.
-
I suspect that you are on the money. Hisense has no connection to the bushfire appeal. It is however a Chinese TV/appliance brand that is marketing vigorously in this country. Pretty fair educated guess I reckon, but a guess nonetheless. Lets hope it's confirmed soon .

Im in, "stimulus package".

Interesting post. You dont care about people busting thier guts and trying hard? Um, trying hard doesn't win premierships?? We need to change the mentality of trying hard? Yes, I can see him helping us win a flag, should he manage to make the next step. Personally I want to see evertone busting thier guts for the club, from the boardroom to the coaching staff, to the players, to the medical staff to the members and supporters etc etc and this is exactly the mentality we ned at the football club. If each part of the club functioned at its best, we would again have a succesful football club.

2nd year player and too hard to make a call either way. What he does deserve though is every opportunity to prove himself. He has been a consistent performer in the 2s and his commitment can't be questioned. I do believe that given opportunity he can be a consistent clearance and possession winner, problem is that he can really only be played in the guts. The question is whether his deficiencies and lack of flexibility are outweighed by his effectiveness. He needs to be an extremely efficient player to counter his deficiencies. I like him and I hope he makes it, time will tell.
-
I had him in and took him out, I just don't think he will play enough footy this year. But it will be interesting to get a vibe or comment from him or the club as to thier expectations of him. I suppose we will know more after the NAB cup. I replaced him in the forward line with Ziebell.
-
Yeah gotta agree with the consensus on this one, it is a shocker. Perhaps Im in the wrong demographic.
-
I pick a couple of blue chip players ie. cox, bartel, franklin etc on all lines and make up the rest with mid range players who I believe will increase in value ie; Petterd, Araon Edwards and some young players like veszpremi, grimes. The rest are players who have played less that three games but are likely to play early on ie Ziebell, Vickery, Srauss, Bail, hill, swift etc etc. These players can often be the best value but are also hit and miss. Keep an eye on the pre-season comp and pick a few young players who are doing well but haven't debuted. Trade prudently and don't use too many trades early. You dont have to use all your salary cap. i like to have a little in reserve to upgrade to a class form player.

Time to move into the future. Not to say that the club can't learn a thing or two from the lessons of the past. What's important is that mistakes were made, it doesn't matter who made them, what matters is that they are not repeated. Negatively dwelling on past failures will not help the club, drawing positives from our history, our present and looking forward to success is what will drive the club.
