Jack Watts - don't expect too much too soon

Did you mean that you got your info from your source or you came up with the idea while you were on the sauce. -

goose/ym is pulling your chain HT. -
I will come for a look, but I suppose I could be an emergency. I retired a few years ago due to dud shoulders, a crook back, ankles, hammys etc but I could sit in a pocket if I had to.

Are you satisfied with Bailey at the moment?

Sorry mo but you're clutching at straws there. The premierships that Carlton purchased back then were when there was free trade. Sides these days are built. Very different situation. I suppose Clarkson and Thompson should have been sacked after their first year for not being able to get their message across? There is only one way for this club to win a premiership and that is with the long term view. The same view that messrs clarkson and thompson had. -

I agree with this in principle but one thing I believe that Bailey should be given credit for is putting his arse on the line in the following ways. He has exposed inexperienced kids when he could have selected veterans. The kids were and unknown quantity and are prone to losing the plot in a game and getting thrashed. Playing the older blokes may have stemmed the thrashings. He has not made excuses for his or the teams performances. He has not tried to deflect responsibility. He has made decisions with the long term view of the club at heart rather than basing his decisions around his success as a coach in the short term. Whether he is going to be successful with his plan remains to be seen. A one or two year contract for a coach in our situation would have been a terrible idea. It would force a coach to attempt to rush results and be more inclined to mediocrity rather than have a long term premiership view. two steps back, three steps forward. -

You don't modify your gameplan down to your skill level, thats a silly notion. You build your skill level to the level required to play the game plan that will win a premiership. Modifying a gameplan might minimise damage in the short term and may get you a few more wins and or reduce the shellaquings but wont win you a premiership. Far too early to call on Bailey but he appears to be following the modern prototype of building a team from the ground up ala hawthorn/geelong. -
That is garbage. What did he contribute exactly? I think if you examine this a little deeper you may discover that it was the MFC that persisted with CJ without him delivering any real contribution on the field until this year. Like many of the posters I would have liked to see CJ stay and start to pay out on the investment that our club has put into him. He has chosen to go elsewhere. Goodbye.

I would consider these things to precede the above points. 1. A culture of excellence and hardness 2. Compiling a team capable and willing to play as a team 3. Player development 4. List management/talent identification 5. Leadership development 6. Communication skills with members and supporters, media and players and staff These are factors that I see being addressed by bailey and co. If addressed successfully, results will start to come. -
It was in the gossip thread in drafting that YM/Goose posted that.
-
I think he has another year to run on his two year contract but i stand to be corrected.
-
I would also contend that YM or Goose or whoever he is posting as at the time is rarely posting out of a love of the game or concern about the MFC. I would expect that his posts are a search for some significance or out of frustration of not wielding influence or having a voice in the "real" world. Footy just happens to be the topic he is best acquainted with. This will no doubt be taken as a sledge but it isn't meant to be. Rather an observation. I agree with deanox and took his advice some time ago re YM.
-
Thanks melbfan and welcome. Do I take it that you have a close affinity with Jake.
-
did you write that yourself, genius!
-
dean laidley is one strange cat. he has basically just [censored] off one of thier young stars for nothing. pretty hard to demand loyalty from him now. strange tactics.
-
Yep, It also gives us the salary cap room to pay him that exorbitant amount.
-
Just been reported on 10 sport that this is what is being looked at Okeefe to Hawks Green to Swans Pick 16 to Us Makes sense
-
I agree, if he goes to the filth it will be for pick 29 and a player. Ten news have just said that the swans want him??
-
reasonable question I would have thought.
-
I am not really into the speculative stuff but I feel that this could fall our way. Could it be that we are waiting till the last minute to offer 19 for him. It seems that way to me. The question is can we afford him or pay him. If we sweeten (ahem) the pick with one Nathan Carroll that could work. I am willing to pay warnock what we would have paid carroll. Especially seeing that Freo say they have enough room in thier cap for warnock. Of course being contracted Carroll needs to agree to it. He might, it would be his last chance to play senior footy?
-
Yes, they have refused to do the round table thing with the AFL.
-
Agreed. I suspect that freo are saying "we want pick 6 they are offering 24. He is not going to Carlton. Nothing more to say. Negotiation over. Next offer please". I also suspect that the AFL are envisaging some backlash from Visy and the player and having the whole free agency/restraint of trade debate flare up and this is why they are attempting to get involved. Kudos to Freo in this case. They are playing hard ball. This could go well for us.
-
I believe that fremantle has refused to come to the table at all basically saying the same thing.
-
This may or may not mean nothing but there are carlton people bemoaning an apparent stalling in the deal. Both clubs are refusing to budge with fremantle refusing to sit down with Visy. He may or may not be headed to the PSD. Hopefully they both stick to thier guns and we pick him up for 0.
