Roost it Read the post carefully and my previous post. No I am not putting Valenti in the same bracket as these guys, how the hell could you they have all established senior footy careers. My point is a lack of pace does not preclude a player from being a creative senior midfielder. There is no way that you can judge valenti either way from his handful of senior games. And FWIW many of those players had to work hard to cement a regular spot in the ones.
-
creative midfielders who lack pace peter bell, sam mitchell, james bartel, greg williams, cameron ling, brock mclean, shaun hart etc. without trying too hard I don't think the lack of pace is an issue if you allow the player to play his natural creative game.

There seems to be two camps here. The Valenti isn't good enough and the valenti is good enough camp. I would say that Valenti has been a very good and consistent performer at sandy. He wins the ball and uses it well and at that level is comaparable to a sam mitchell style of player. When he has played senior football he has shown the ability t o win the footy and has put his body on the line and played with spirit. His lack of pace has also been apparent. Whether he has the ability to transfer his possession winning, engine room type game in senior football is not known yet. He simply has not had the opportunities to settle in or the freedom to play his style of game. Do I think he is good enough? I like some of what I have seen and appreciate his endeavour but I need to see more of him at senior level to make a decision.

Fair enough I just had a barby at home without beer or red so I am a bit snooty. cheers.
-
Yes good pick up, he does look like he has seriously bulked up or they had the muscle-up lens on the camera. It will be interesting to see the changes in bodies over the pre-season.
-
the law of averages suggests that one of these days you will get one right, then maybe not. FWIW deboer may be rookied by someone, maybe even us, i don't think he will be picked up in the PSD.

great work theo

Yeah, let that be a lesson to everyone, don't post photos of players. Gotta love those blokes who contribute nothing and just sit back and ridicule people who provide images and info.
-
cheers, my only concern was that u seemed to have a go at m2w who posted the photos only with the caption "pics of bail". If that wasn't your intention then cheers for clearing it up. I reckon u are one of those blokes who doesn't want to set yourself up for disappointment. me i am just excited to see the MFC with a clear long term plan for the future both on and off the field.

Posted by goose 4/12. "We want Simpkin or Sibosado....... FACT! and nowadays it costs money to have someone train with you..... as we are strapped you might find that we dont have anyone train with us but we will go the cheap option and watch players like (i hope Simpkin and sibosado) from over the fence at other clubs...... maybe not though.... we will see..... oh and gugliotta not hard enough at the contest" And we will get natanui and davey is going to port etc etc If there is a bookie out there that will take a bet on Deboer not going to melb in the PSD get on it people

I detect a sense of negativity from u about this boy. Based on a little bit of info and some knowledge of his character I believe that he will surpass a couple of higher picks in achievement in his career. I don't really make these sorts of calls, but I really think this kid will be an inspired pick up.
-
I think the pics are good. It illustrates that the boy has decent athleticism and is able to get off the ground and the second photo shows his physique. That is it. I for one get jack of anyone who has a go at people who provide training reports and post pictures . I appreciate the reports and shots so please ignore the negative individuals and keep posting them. Thanks m2w.

Well that discounts us taking Deboer then!
-
Precisely my point. Why forgo someone like Martin for Valenti when you can have Martin and Valenti.
-
I think the issue is that most want Valenti to be available to play senior footy and at some stage next year he will. Therefore what Mo says is right and we would be silly to give up PSD 1 for the sake of having him available for the first eleven rounds. In this way we have our cake and eat it too. The club needs to take every possible avenue to get good senior footballers on the list. Gouga you are right, Valenti is stiff but we should not give up a Sibasado, Hayes or Rockliff.
-
I really feel for Valenti and I am a fan. He is a good little in and under who has very good hands and wins the footy. He is limited by a lack of pace and penetration in his kicking. The problem is we have numerous players with these limitations and the club has drafted players with pace and kicking as strengths.

Surely this is one of the best games in our recent history
jabberwocky replied to Yencks's topic in Melbourne Demons
I had only just started to take my 2 young boys to the footy this year. They have been tempted to follow other teams due to the fact that we live near Geelong and that our team has been struggling a little. That day they became lifelong Demons. -
Think you might need to reread my post monty, I think you do agree with me.
-
The big problem that I have observed with Frawley is that he seems to lack athleticism, ie a vertical leap to effect a spoil and the ability to keep himself upright in the marking contest. Until these things are addressed he cant hold down full back.
-
He qualifies it by stating "if he's the best player available". When we select an unproven teenager over CJ we are in effect sending a message that CJ is not the best available.

Demonland/Demonology v Saintsational
jabberwocky replied to rollinson 65's topic in Melbourne Demons
rollo, can't make it due to a sick wife. I can't leave five kids to fend for themselves. Sorry guys! -
First post? Thanks Sam, Sam's brother, sister, cousin or mate.

Agreed Dappa, it also gives you a chance to assess your list and sit back and look at who you can get on a needs basis. IMO big men are a great target as rookies. And for those poo-pooing the rookie draft, a Dean Cox or Nathan Foley would be okay. The club needs to take advantage of every opportunity to get a good footballer.

Bail 18 games Strauss 16 games Watts 8 games Jetta 4 games Bennell 4 games Blease maybe 2 games

Thats right and its possible, even likely that PSD selection will come from a player who hasn't trained with us. Maybe we are looking at a couple of these guys for the rookie list.
