  1. Simple really - supporters typically base selection each week on viewing 120 minutes of footy from the week before, quite often on Foxtel. Match committees at all AFL clubs, however, also take other things into consideration when selecting sides each week. For instance, they also look at how players train ALL week as something relevant to team selection - not something that most of us get line of sight on.
  2. 3. GWS's star recruits were Israel Folau and Tom Scully. 7. Gary Ablett left Geelong. Chris Judd left WCE. Tom Scully left us. Hardly in the same league really. 8. We weren't actually. 9. "Look guilty" - hardly a sophisticated approach. The underlying factual evidence disclosed to date suggests otherwise. But, then again, some prefer ABC's Radio National in the morning. Others prefer Channel 7's Sunrise.
  3. Yep, it's all too hard for some. Lucky those 108 Aussie diggers took a different approach when they confronted 1,500 to 2,000 advancing North Vietnamese soldiers at Long Tan. Show some mettle for Christ's sake. All you need to do is actually support the club and the players - it's not war. Surely that's not too hard. Geez there are a lot of drama queens here.
  4. I really rate this bloke. His interview on The Robbo Show is first class. May not be big names, but I'm expecting small, but highly effective, steps from the likes of Evans, Matt Jones, Terlich and Kent.
  5. Welcome back Ben Hur. Stick around.
  6. This thread reads like a sensationalist headline from News of the World or OK magazine. Stop being such reactionary, uncritical lemmings - it's unbecoming.
  7. I would take Matt Jones over Tom Scully. And to think we also got Mitch Clark*, Hogan or Toumpas and Barry/Dawes for the little pr1ck. No brainer. Thank you GWS. * from the money we'd kept aside to retain TS.
  8. We need to keep Frawley. Surely that's obvious. That said, he's never been the player he was under Wellman. So - get Wellman back. And Junior McDonald.
  9. What a delusional thread this has turned into. You guys have got to be kidding if you think some of these names mentioned here would ever come to the MFC. Until we show something, the very mature age recruits we have managed to secure are the best we'll get.
  10. Hey, be careful PaulRB - you're basing your opinion on a detailed analysis of the underlying facts. Many in the media and some here simply hate that approach. They prefer a simplistic analysis of 'facts', all of which merely confirm their pre-existing bias. So, here goes - we're 300 plus points down after the first three games. What do you say about that?! And don't tell me that Port, Essendon and West Coast (with Kerr and LeCras back) were actually in red hot form in those games. Ohh, and even though we finished 12th in 2010, we actually won games against the Swans and the Crows at the G. How do you explain those facts? Interested in your views on these two points, given that they get flogged to death here.
  11. Yes. It. Is. A. Crack. At. Toumpas. You are essentially saying we stuffed up monumentally by selecting him over Wines. Everyone on this site is impressed with Wines. A couple of facts though: 1. he went at pick 7. 2. people are amazed we managed to snag Toumpas at all - he was widely touted as top 2 pick for most of the year. 3. Todd Viney would've known all about Wines - and, for much of that time, you wouldn't have heard of him, nor cared about him. Without doubt, this club has made some unbelievable drafting mistakes over the years. But drafting Hogan, Toumpas and Viney will not be in that category. And, by the way, we get it that you like Wines. Toumpas and the Vineys (snr and jnr) probably do too.
  12. Bailey also 'retired' most of our senior players prematurely and gave free games to these underdeveloped 18 year olds. Why did he do that, particularly if they weren't fit/hard enough?!He completely lost me when he forced Junior McDonald to retire a year early. His approach to the development of young talent was IMO naive in the extreme. Let's not now get revisionistic about things. Nice bloke - but it seems to me that he completely stuffed our list. It was all way out of balance when Neeld arrived and was wholly lacking in many of the fundamentals (ie, leadership, fitness, culture). The whole world knows this - surely. Edit - iPad typo.
  13. I'm happy to defer to Dave Misson's expertise when it comes to AFL player fitness. I expect many of the keyboard experts here couldn't even do 10 push ups.
  14. Toumpas will be a bloody great player for us. Cracking kid too. Wish we could have him and Wines to be honest. And Viney. And Hogan. Got three out of the four though.
  15. This exactly. Worst start of any club since 1985 and people think it'll be different if we picked Wines over Toumpas.
  16. Worst player to play 100 games of AFL?! He was All Australian for Christ's sake. That said, he has been absolutely pathetic this year and for much of last year. Missing out on Jack Hannath was not ideal.
  17. Pass mark - more tackles than WCE at the final siren. Good if we actually managed to win a few clearances too.
  18. That was the first thing I noticed in that photo too. No empathy or respect - the kid will most likely turn into a scumbag of the highest order.
  19. Not yet a midfielder IMO. Play him as our sub until he builds his engine, because he is undoubtedly a good impact player.
  20. I find self serving posts to be annoying in the extreme, although the two points for me from that article are two points that several of us here have been hammering home for ages: 1. cutting Junior McDonald prematurely was a major miscalculation; and 2. appointing Sheedy, rather than Bailey, in 2007 would've been a huge shot in the arm for this club. Both very regrettable mistakes IMO. Good article.
