It's funny how last season many of the anti-Neeld brigade said we should've landed Sanderson. No mention of Hinkley at all. Port's 5-0 thus far this season. And now it's Hinkley. No mention of Sanderson. At all. Talk about blowing in the breeze.

This exactly. 10 out of 10, Dr Gonzo. Dead set, some MFC supporters remind me of those two old muppets, Statler and Waldorf - grumpy old fellas for whom nothing is ever okay. For instance, I was watching the game last week with a Demons supporter who fits this mould. He was bitching and moaning throughout the whole game. After the final quarter, one of the best I have ever seen, I said to him, tongue in cheek, "you hated that, didn't you?! I mean, what are you going to whinge about now?" His response - "it was only GWS". My response - "you're #%#%ing delisted".

I can't see where he said this.

There might be some truth to this. The following is an excerpt from the article on the official website about strengthening the ties between Casey and MFC. "On match day, Nichol is also the Casey backline coach and Melbourne forward line development coach Paul Satterley is also the Casey forward line coach. Melbourne midfield coach Aaron Greaves also works closely with Casey midfield coach Steve O’Brien, and provides feedback at games. Throughout the article, the other MFC assistant/development coaches (ie, Nichol and Satterley) are mentioned as such. Greaves, however, is referred to as the Melbourne midfield coach - not as the assistant midfield coach. Suspect it's no accident.

Davey has kicked three or four fantastic goals this year. Pity they've been lost in the fact that we were absolutely belted in each of the games in which he kicked them.

The thing that most disappoints me is that certain posters here seem all too willing to (uncritically) accept many of these 'whsipering campaigns' and run with them to support their anti-Neeld agendas. Can't believe it in fact - just have to shake your head.

Dawes will prove himself to be another good recruit IMO - on and off field. Good to hear his insight into what's happening 'inside' the club. IMO it's clear that the focus of this football department is on nailing the underlying fundamentals. They've also consistently said it's a journey and that we started well behind the pack - but they are diligently putting in elite systems and processes, such that success will/should come. In time. Some here wanted success within three weeks of the commencement of this season. It was never going to happen - nonetheless, several here have been religiously and, I think, wholly irrationally baying from Neeld's blood. Much of their patience seems to stem from the fact that we've been rebuilding for literally ages, but for most of this period Neeld wasn't even at the club. That mentality is the very reason countries like Italy will never get back on their feet. They flip and flop around like feathers in the breeze. We need to stick to the program - it has clearly been well conceived, even if Neeld may not ultimately be the coach to take us to the ultimate glory - the systems he is introducing are clearly in the best interests of the club. Chopping and changing wreaks of incompetence and gutlessness IMO. That said, I think everyone has been a bit surprised at how uncompetitive we were in those first three games - but I trust the football department's assessment of the list and the quality of the pre-season etc. After all, more than a few of them have come from elite AFL club environments. Relevantly, I think many people here (and in the media) also underestimated the quality of the midlfields of Port and the Dons, as against ours, in those first couple of games.

If it's any consolation demondays, a current Geelong player told me that they didn't rate Green at all and couldn't believe he was an AFL Captain. Perhaps harsh, but that was definitely the view expressed. As a supporter, I liked Green FWIW.

Yep, it was unbelievable. He was like an angry rhino on jungle juice. I loved his apparent passion for the club after the game too - geez, I hope he commits to this club for the rest of his career.

Sorry Fifty 5 - cannot agree with you.This was not a nothing win. Particularly given the way in which we won: 19 points down at 3/4 time, then a 12.2 final quarter. I think it was a incredibly important win.

I am absolutely pumped. That was an epic final quarter. And win. Down and out against the co-cellar dwellers, who've actually shown a bit this year. We've been bagged mercilessly all year, down on confidence, down by 19 points at 3/4 time, plenty of talk in the media of massive changes if we fail to win the game, poor umpiring decisions during the entire game to overcome - in short, so much stacked against a win by this player group in the circumstances. And then - Geelong like intensity at the ball. And skill - it began to look like a training drill. Don't under-estimate that win - it was fantastic in the circumstances. Not to over-estimate it either, but we really needed it. This is apparently the third oldest football club in the world. It is the oldest in the league. And we have won 12 premierships. And not ever before have we had a 12.2 final quarter. Bloody fantastic. So yep - I'm pumped C&B.

The media is literally out of control these days. Look at the way in which The New York Post has been reporting on the Boston marathon bombing - totally outrageous. There is also no such thing as sports journalism anymore. You only need to watch that documentary "When We Where Kings"' about Ali to realise that the old school sports journalists being interviewed about the George Foreman fight in Zaire were quite intellectual, very considered and interesting. Sports journos now are all absolute dolts.

Quite the opposite IMO. Having another big ruckman yesterday highlighted to me that Jamar has been going against two ruckmen each week, and that he simply can't do that anymore. With another ruckman in the team, however, Jamar looked much better. In my view, there is a role for both of them. And yep - like the rest of you - I am very excited about Maxy Gawn.
