  1. He really looks like a Swans half bank flanker to me. Perhaps that one year he spent there as a rookie has never really left him. Great pick up.
  2. Just lost the priority pick. We dominated that game, but for the final quarter. Would've necked myself, and possibly a few others, if we lost that one. I feel numb. But relieved. And maybe even a bit happy.
  3. My problem with this analysis is that I don't think Roos really has the desire to coach again - irrespective of whether the MFC gets its act together or not. In short, some of his hesitance appears not to relate to MFC's brand at all - it seems to be family and lifestyle related. How can Jackson or the AFL possibly change those factors? It's clear he'd be great for this club - everyone knows that (including, it would seem, the AFL) - but there appears to be a fairly high degree of wish thinking going on here. I also don't see why the new AFL approved Board is required to be in place prior to the new coach being appointed/announced, given that the new coach is also clearly going to be an AFL sanctioned appointment (ie, it appears that the new coach is not going to be a Board decision - rather it'll be a Jackson/AFL appointment).
  4. The senior player confirmed the rumours that Bomber was mucking around with a popular team mate's girlfriend and was regularly indulging with stuff that you couldn't buy over the bar at the Geelong Ex-Servicemen's Club. Behaviour that didn't exactly win over the sheds. Said that the senior players got sick of it, because he applied different standards and rules for himself to the player group. He also stated that, even though Bomber built the list, its senior leaders were (at that time) so good that they could virtually win big games despite the coach - and that, in his last year at the club, Bomber's influence was becoming more of a negative than a positive. He observed that Scott was a top selection as coach, although this was perhaps a bit predictable/convenient given they had won the flag only a few weeks earlier. I formed the view that they seemed to think Bomber was an extremely experienced/capable coach, but fundamentally a bit of a loose cannon by the end of his time at Geelong, although not in a wholly entertaining/positive way. If we miss out on Roos - which IMO seems likely, despite some here reading between the lines and thinking a "no" actually means a "yes" - my vote goes strongly for Mark Williams. I will be disappointed with anyone else given that Choco is ready to go, and passionately so. I reckon the players and supporters alike would absolutely love the personality infusion that he'd inject into this tired old club.
  5. If this firms up Viney's role at the club, then it's a positive.
  6. Not according to some of the senior Geelong players ...
  7. Toumpas was a no brainer at pick 4. Astonishing that he was still available in fact.
  8. I think you're on the money here rjay - I've heard the same thing about him from numerous people. Wrong bloke to have on our board.
  9. I want Williams - or Roos (but I think that's wish thinking more than a real chance). That said, I really think they should do everything to keep Craig at the club in some capacity. He's too good and experienced to let him go, particularly for a club like ours.
  10. I have a mate who's the CEO of a company which sponsors several AFL clubs: Pies, Dons, MFC, Freo etc. He says that the gulf between the Pies, Dons and the MFC is incredible. In short, the other clubs are really professional whereas the Dees are absolutely amateur when it comes to stakeholder relations. The article doesn't surprise me.
  11. Yep, let's get some boring, box ticking, process oriented robot again who doesn't put any of the old school MFC supporters' noses out of joint - and who, as an unfortunate aside, couldn't motivate any player in the entire world to play footy well or inspire any passion around the place. In fact, why don't we simply appoint one of the Board members to coach the team - perhaps the company secretary, if we have one. I, for one, want a fair dinkum experienced footy bloke to take this list, and the club, by the the throat and really rev it up - much like a red hot blood infusion. And I reckon Choco Williams is the perfect man to achieve that, even if some of the Toorak set might find aspects of his conduct slightly 'untoward' at times. I'm sick of the MFC being the prissy club in the comp. As Checker Hughes stated to his Fuchsias in the sheds during a game - "You are playing like a lot of flowers. Lift your heads and play like demons!" As well all know, the name was promptly embraced and the 'Demons' went on to win four premierships during his reign. Let's get that headspace back once again. It's a no brainer. Get Choco.
  12. Yep, we had heaps of credibility in 2011 - particularly after Geelong thumped us by 186 points.
  13. He's got a double century on the board with this club IMO. The players respect him, he was hard at it, he was a great midfielder, and he loves the club. Fundamentally though, it's about culture. We've been run by dispassionate management consultants for too long. We need to get some footy people back into the place and get these players loving the joint - die for the club and one another stuff. And I reckon Junior has their respect - he can also perform a valuable role from a technical perspective. No brainer IMO. People like Choco with Junior as a key assistant would thrive in an MFC 'backs to the wall' environment IMO.
  14. He's a first year, second round pick, rookie who's on the verge of senior team selection - that, to me, is a good news story.Contrast this with, say, spending pick 12 on Lucas Cook in a draft where every other player selected in the top 30 played senior AFL games. This therefore appears to me to be a good news story.
  15. Clearly an error - but press conferences with Choco will be far more entertaining than under Ross Lyon. I agree with the comments his brother made in that article. This club, in its current circumstances, is ready made for Choco Williams. IMO he is far better suited to the MFC at the moment, than a Geelong or a Hawthorn or a Swans.
  16. I heard Choco speak at a GWS Coterie function two years ago. He was absolutely sensational. He is a fantastic communicator in a footy environment - bloody funny, has a bucket of larrikin war stories as long as your arm, clearly a wealth of football experience - and he undoubtedly knows how to control the sheds/motivate players/create a bullet proof culture. I really hope he's our coach at the end of this year. The case for Roos is compelling, but I don't think his heart is in it. Choco would inspire something this club has lacked for far too long - PASSION. For the first time in living memory, the MFC may actually develop a personality/some character. My wish list: Head coach: Choco Williams Assistants: Junior McDonald and Wellman (offer to double his Essendon pay cheque). And then keep the best off the current assistants (Rawlings, Brown etc). Football director: Neale Daniher Fitness guru: Dave Misson Head of other elite performance stuff: Neil Craig Head of player development/recruiting/some other important role: Todd Viney Sylvia, Gawn and Watts to re-sign, and Frawley to sign a contract extension. And secure a couple experienced A grade mids from other clubs in the trade period. I reckon this is achievable if the AFL is committed to assisting us with the rebuild/restructure. C'mon MFC Board - it's about time for some character/personality to be injected into this club.
  17. Thanks stinga. Any views on how Stark is going?
  18. This is a really good news story. I don't know anything about him, but it seems we've unearthed another potentially good player from the minor leagues here. Along with Matt Jones and Dean Terlich, I'm pretty impressed with the way in which we used our bottom end picks last year. Just out of interest, would we have picked Hannath with the rookie pick we used on Clisby?
  19. Not trying to sound like Fred Nile here, but this is a very serious criminal charge which I expect has had a major impact on the woman in question and the respective families. Get some perspective fellas. It's bigger than whether he'll be on the team sheet this weekend.
