Kalani has fully recovered from glandular fever. He’s feeling great. His girlfriend came down to Melbourne on the players’ 4-day break and despite Kalani becoming ill on day one, she loves Melbourne and is keen to live here. He said, “My dad’s here, come and see him!” Everyone was being seated so I said, “All good, I’ll hunt him down at some point.” Kalani said, “He’s over there, just look for the grey hair.” I thought well, Kalani, you need to narrow that down some 😅

I’m seated between Ricky Mentha and Shane. Ricky was just asked for I.D! The players are not allowed to drink but because there is a wine glass in front of him (as there is with everyone) he needs to show I.D. Ridiculous.

The first time I stayed at his parents’ house, in his old bedroom which is now a guest bedroom, I saw that the light switch was positioned only centimetres from the door handle and so when you pull down the door handle you turned the light on whether you wanted to or not. Pauline (his mum) said, “Yeah it’s obvious Bayles didn’t get much experience as a sparky before playing footy full time.” 😂😂😂

The Season Launch is imo the best event on the footy calendar. It’s a night full of hope for the new season; a clean slate, a fresh start etc. The mood is usually great* and it’s a lighthearted, fun evening. Understandably Luker won’t be there tonight. Maybe in Luker’s place the club will punish some young player by putting him next to me. Poor bastard 😂 *with the exception of 2024 when the Season Launch took place merely hours after Gussy’s forced retirement announcement. A very sad evening indeed.

Soooo glad it’s not his ACL. A month in a brace then a couple of months rehabbing is so much easier to swallow than a year or more on the sidelines. It’s probs the best news we could realistically have hoped for. And mark my words… he won’t be any different when he comes back. This boy doesn’t let anything drag him down. YAY LUKER!!!

Awesome news! Paddy’s the eldest of five boys. I was talking with his mum at the North praccy and she said they were all hoping like hell he’d get on the seniors list, and he has! Also great news that it’s not an ACL for Luker!

I don’t know a great deal about Ron other than Chappy was pleased with his performance in the scratch match vs North. He’s a very quiet boy, doesn’t give away too much, but a couple of weeks ago he said he’s been told by Kingy that they’re happy with his progress which is a very general comment but good to hear.

Last year we were granted an extension (AMW sustained an LTI in the praccy vs North a day or so after the deadline). The general feeling is that we were only granted the extension because Carlton was in the same boat and even by the AFL’s own standards it would’ve been unfair to help one team and not the other.

Other posters have expressed my sentiment perfectly. This is more about Luker than it is the impact on the team. It has nothing to do with MFCSS. The only consolation for mine is that the club has this incredible ability to keep LTI players in a good headspace for the entire time they’re on the sidelines; in Luker’s case it won’t be difficult to keep his spirits up since nothing seems to faze him greatly. He takes everything in his stride and isn’t given to self-pity.
