  1. Lions and pies got hit with the shortest preseasons probably in AFL history with the 30 Sep grand final into 8/9 Mar opening round games. I think they both started under done and will start coming into full fitness now. Lions are probably there now. We categorically did not do anything extra in advance of the lions game, doing additional work on top of playing 4 games in 19 days would be grounds to fire the fitness staff for incompetence. I think what happened is pretty simply we were cooked by 3QT in the Adelaide game and didn’t come up for the Lions. No way we would’ve voluntarily chosen a path that would leave us less than fully fit to play the Lions at the G - taking 4 points off Brisbane at home is way more valuable than beating the Crom in Adelaide. We now face the risk of going 0-2 against them as we need to play them at the Gabba and that gives them a massive leg up on us in terms of the top 4. Port and Crom took more out of us than we hoped or planned for and that left us flat. The plan would’ve been to get through to the first bye as healthy as possible, recover and then potentially players that need it do some heavy work prior to the Tigers. Reset and prepare for the next 7 games to our other bye.
  2. Too small for mine. Bowey when fit plays tall(ish) and can impact despite his size, from what I’ve seen of Laurie he looks good at VFL level due to smarts and skills but can’t impact at AFL level as he’s just not physically capable and isn’t quick enough to get free like a Caleb Daniel (when he’s not in Bevo’s bad books). Hunter is ahead of him for me, or Brown if they think he’s ready.
  3. I was told they had made it clear with Koz getting a week that contact with the head was an automatic week holiday, I did suspect they’d be tying themselves in knots to avoid following that precedent when it was one of the special ones..
  4. Yuck. That says fatigue to me. That’s a smashing at stoppage. Couldn’t generate scores ourselves plus couldn’t stop them. Given our strengths are normally contest, stoppage work and pressure it looks to me like a one off where we just physically couldn’t perform rather than a fundamental personnel/game style issue. Wouldn’t want to put up these numbers against the Cats and Blues though.
  5. I think there’s enough excuses to say we can write that one off. They flogged us in rd2 last year, we got junk goals after the lights came on and made it respectable but they flogged us and in the end we still finished top 4. Tonight Trac and Oliver had 20 and 18 respectively, that never happens and you wouldn’t think it’ll happen again. It didn’t look Melbourne-like at all when we had the ball, rushing, bad decisions, indecision. I think it was an aberration. But (a big but), does make it hard to have confidence until we prove ourselves again. Need to go 2 out of the next 3 to be a contender I think.
  6. Hopefully this is a one off, everyone has the flu or were fatigued or something. Rare to have a game where everyone is bad. Bears weren’t even good we just couldn’t run, kick, handball or mark which I’m told are all key facets of the game. make this our worst game of the year and we can still win the flag, have too many of them and we are junk.
  7. He ain’t the forward line saviour we were hoping for
  8. One would be talking out their rear end then. 2 goals, 3 goal assists, 11 score involvements and you reckon he lost us that game by bumping Cripps? Laughable. Finished 7th in the B&F, coaches must hate him.
  9. You’re right that he won’t play at Casey, out for 1 week at all levels. Bit harsh on the VFL though, it’s serious footy no one’s going to king hit him.
  10. Yes. He made incidental contact with an opponent and got a week suspension. Why would the club need to put extra punishment on top of that? Should Rivers have got an additional punishment from the club on top of his fine for a dangerous tackle on Rozee?
  11. Be serious, it’s nothing like the hits on Smith and Cripps. Baker got a week for worse than Koz’s hit 7 days ago, this is the strictest application so far of a new interpretation they only brought in this year. Any previous year it’s a fine at worst.
  12. I look forward to all the reasonings next time around when it’s one of the afl’s favourites they need to get out of a minor bump.. Sounds like a pretty average performance from Anderson but the lawyering up front is only part of the process, other key pieces include “how will this make the AFL look in the media?” and “how will this affect the class action lawsuits down the track?”
  13. My issue isn’t with how you want to soften your criticism. My issue is with the myth that he’s ill-disciplined. Think about what you’re actually putting forward “he’s too important” to play at Casey? So are Goody and co scared to drop a 22yo even though he ignores their instructions to be front and centre? And they’re also ticked off with him about bumping players but can’t drop him for that either? Or is it more likely that there aren’t any such instructions and frustrations internally and he’s doing fine on the field (averaging 2goals per game so far, above his career average of 1.49) and the bump is just one of those things that happens (and one which he may still get off with a fine for)? It’s not about MFC can do no wrong, it’s don’t make things up in your head and project them out into reality.
  14. Yeah I don’t think they’re going to rest him, if anything minor can be done about the hand they might do an op after this week and have him back for the tigers or cats. My daughter got his signature at the family day and I thought “geez his hand must be buggered” but then I compared it to a previous signature from 2021 and it’s just as unreadable then so the hand can’t be that bad.
  15. Standard claim by those who reckon he’s undisciplined. You don’t know if he makes his bed and I’m sure you also don’t know what Goody and the coaches tell him to do on field either. If there was a serious issue with the way he plays he would’ve been at Casey working on it in the twos at some point. The Cripps bump was silly but hardly outrageous, this one is not worth a week and discipline had nothing to do with it.

Appreciate the clarification and insight into the glamorous world of footy podcasting

I haven’t noticed the umms but I am glad that @binman has a new mic and doesn’t sound like he’s calling in from inside the stats file filing cabinet anymore
  18. Shocking spot to stand, had my daughter on my shoulders for a bit and gave up and moved to the punt road wing. Bowzer had the red top on, someone asked him about the shoulder, said he was about halfway through rehab, 4 weeks from playing.
  19. I think we’ll avoid the media false equivalence linking us losing Brayshaw to a high hit with defending Koz
  20. Should appeal but probably won’t. It’s low impact by any measure, if they want to put in writing that there’s no such thing as low impact high contact then do so rather than put in unwritten loadings when they feel like it. The incident itself was accidental, he jumped to try and stop the handball going over the top, anyone wetting the bed about “he needs to get this out of his game” needs a lie down - it happened, wasn’t trying to hurt the bloke, move on..
  21. Funny that no one paid much attention to Pendles basically hanging a dual brownlow medalist out to dry and saying he was only retaliating for something Neale did.. St Pendlebury never does anything wrong. Did you know he played basketball growing up?
  22. I think that only applies if you’ve had multiple fines previously, his last two have been suspensions so if this is assessed as a fine it’s his first low-level one
  23. Clearly Koz just needs to go around with a bottle of wine and some flowers for Mrs Soligo and we can put this all behind us and move on to the Lions
