You can disagree but who would you have got instead? Easy to say we should’ve got better players but who specifically? Hunter, Billing’s, Schache, Hore and Fullerton were all basically free - who else was available for free that makes us better? The problem is our best 3 mids aren’t playing well, guys like Sparrow and Rivers have gone backwards, Lever is out hurt etc. McAdam yes looks like a miss at the moment but swapping our no good depth for other teams no good depth hasn’t made any difference

My point exactly. Lots of people using 20/20 hindsight on drafting and trading but missing critical points. Shafting Gus was never going to happen. Even if it did happen we weren’t keeping Jordon as he had an offer from the swans to play regular game time and was taking it. He would not be a walk up start if he’d stayed given we had Windsor coming in and Billings (yes people may pretend they knew Billings was going to be a dud but that wasn’t clear at the time, we brought him in to play 1s). Grundy, Harmes and Jordon are not why we are where we are now.

Were we going to play Grundy on the wing instead of Gus? If not then not sure he’s relevant to the discussion. Jordon as I said left as a free agent so it wasn’t up to us, whether Gus played again or not.

You assume incorrectly, we would not have got an extra pick - we would’ve had a free list spot to maybe rookie someone but no extra draft pick. Jordon went as an unrestricted free agent so not sure how we would’ve kept him.

But I don’t know - how would getting rid of him in November have given us a draft pick or something to trade for another mid?

Forgive me if I’m being slow here but what was the obvious decision? Pay out his long contract inside the salary cap? Trade a player being medically assessed for career ending brain injury?

Yeah, he gives me the irrits with the loading talk and is generally more glass half full than I am but people are talking like he’s the reason we got spanked today..

It sounded to me like players aren’t doing what they’re supposed to be doing and he doesn’t know why they aren’t - makes me think some have dropped their bundle or there’s something else going on. The list hasn’t suddenly got this much worse, there’s some not pulling their weight

The payoff for never belting teams was that we never got belted so always had a good %.. now if we’re getting belted it’s not great. Lever will at least be back in 3 or so but if the rest don’t lift things’ll be too far gone by then

I think that’s answered my questions about whether we were good or not this year, we’re not. Something is either wrong in the rooms or with the game plan. Some players are down on their best and we lost Gus and some depth from last year but it’s fallen off a cliff. No losses like that in a long time where it’s just totally fallen apart. I think the defence has been making the rest look good and now nothing looks good. Should we have extended Goodwin last year? We had to, 3 top 4 finishes in a row including a flag, no way he was getting sacked. And I don’t think sacking him now is the answer, rebuilding the list is the answer. Depth is non-existent. We haven’t been able to top up like the tigers or cats did, we rode it to try and win another flag and it seems like we rode it too long.

Lol absolutely would have. We kicked 3 in a half against the blues in the G 3 weeks ago, and the same against the cats the week before. The venue isn’t the problem the team is the problem

Yeh.. there’s been excuses and reasons but it’s pretty clear we’re not good enough. Even good teams lose a game or two they shouldn’t, when you lose this many you just aren’t good

No change. Armchair selector me says Woey Jnr into the 22, Windsor sub but I don’t think that will actually happen. If Petty isn’t hurt he plays. The only one who might push him out is Disco and he’s not fit yet. Maybe Tomlinson out for Howes if they think Freo is too mobile but I see the club just dropped a TMac x Tommo highlights tape so you think he’d be stiff.

15 marks inside 50 is pretty good for us overall, but with those sort of i50 numbers we should be taking a couple more ideally. Saints took 12 with much fewer i50s. Hopefully McAdam and Petty can start taking a couple, we need to be breaking 100 more regularly towards the end of the year.
