Not against HARD decisions, I’m just against unnecessary panic leading to poor decisions. Yardsticks of the competition, Swans (two coaches since 2002), Cats (two coaches since 2000). Underachieving panic merchants, Blues (8 coaches since 2001, many of them would’ve sacked Voss mid-year last year if they could’ve too), Bombers (6 coaches since 2008, plus some interims). Who do we want to be? Perennial finalists or panicked yo-yos? P.s. Seems you find typing HARD… to do, maybe try… using… both hands.

PREGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne
Textbook fishing from Ralph, wants her and Pert to start jumping at shadows so they can really kick off the media frenzy. The board don’t report to Ralph, or Cornes, or Gerard - those guys just want drama to fill their radio slots and newspaper columns. No good outcome for the board to start making big calls “we fully support Goody and the boys” = we’re going to sack Goody, “we want the team to start playing better” = we’re going to sack Goody, “we have no comment to make” = we’re going to sack Goody”. Better to just stay quiet and let the footy department get on with it.

Thank you for that extremely well thought out and measured response to something that I did not write anywhere in that post

I do get it. There’s a lot of people on here scared that we’re falling back to the dark times of winning twice a year and racking up wooden spoons and they’re coping with that fear by getting in first and weeping and moaning about how it’s all falling apart so they can psychologically protect themselves if it does come true, and also pat themselves on the back and say they called it before anyone else, and called it harder than anyone else. It’s fine, do what you need to do. But stop lapping up every half arsed article knocked out in their sleep by journos and ex-players and ex-coaches and whatnot as if it’s wisdom from the gods. We’re not playing well, no [censored]. We’ve got some issues off field, no [censored]. Good clubs work through those issues and tough times and make changes and get better. [censored] clubs panic and sack everyone and set the whole place on fire. We’ve previously been the latter, I think it’s time we were the former - but some on here want the flames cos then they don’t have to fear being disappointed.

See above. He’s added zero, just recycled and said here is why Melbourne is bad now and he’s pretending the signs were there all along despite picking us to finish 5th when all those same signs were apparently there. Convenient and on trend yes, insightful no. also “he’s not writing this as a journalist”? He’s paid to pump out columns and that’s what he’s doing, it’s not a charity gig.

If you’re going to question my intelligence try not to misspell 2 out of your first 6 words but hey. The connection, which was quite clear, is that you were accusing others of not addressing Malthouse’s points and instead mocking him, and when someone else made another quite clear point about Malthouse making up stories to fit the facts you chose to mock them rather than address the point. Simples when you think about it.

Point by point? Why? We read it all in February, and January, and December.. nothing new there. Easy to write it now and say the warning signs were there, but he tipped us for 5th preseason so where was Nostradamick then? https://archive.md/xpua8 Fine, he’s kicking us while we’re down, good luck to him but let’s not pretend he’s got any great insight here.

Surely a job for Demonblog publishing.. it just struck me how if you’d asked 1000 people in 2010 which of Max & Scully would be the 6x all Australian, 2x B&F winner, premiership-winning captain of an AFL club and which one would be none of those things approximately 0 of those people would’ve picked Max. Absolutely absurd how things turned around.

Maybe our supporters need to harden up. We won a flag, we’ve been in the top 4 for 3 years straight, now we play bad for 6 weeks and everyone is crying into their pillows. [censored]. No pies supporter is ever going to say nice things about us, accept it, tell them to FO and move on with your life. We’re not going well, need to fix some things and play better. No need to curl up into the foetal position and cry.

Gerard Whateley on Petracca incident
Gerard loves when there’s a high horse he can climb on. No one owes him an explanation, the AFL has reviewed it and found no issues, Trac and his family need to be satisfied he’s been looked after and everyone else can GAGF. Talk of installing a CT scanner at the G is rubbish, the epworth is literally across the road. Half a mil plus for a machine, plus operators, plus software, plus to have a CT they need to inject contrast dye and so forth - if a scan is needed get them to hospital which is what happened.

Good listen. I thought Gibby was going to ask him point blank if it was true that Gawn spewed on Tom Scully in China but they didn’t go into a lot of detail on that front..

https://omny.fm/shows/3aw-is-football/alan-richardson-lifts-lid-on-whether-theyll-target#description He said it on radio, listening back (about 7:40 onwards in the clip) the coaches asked the leadership group if they thought it was going to be an issue that players would go too hard at Maynard and not focus on the game, leaders said it wasn’t. He said the focus in the week before the game was internal, not on the pies or Maynard.

Adventurous to call a bloke that came back on the field with 4 broken ribs and a ruptured spleen “weak as” I would’ve thought. I think people need to acknowledge that it’s pretty clear the players don’t view Maynard the same way demonlanders view him. They’re all professionals, they’ve played together and against each other since they were kids - Maynard’s brother played with us for a few years, they’ll know each other pretty well. If they held a grudge they would’ve let him know so it’s pretty clear in my view that there aren’t any hard feelings.

Dees Down But Not Out
Therapeutic listening from Robbo and the Deebrief: Makes a lot of sense talking about our poor decision making and such lately. A bit of nostalgia in there too.

Distance or financial circumstances are both understandable from my point of view, I just thought it was a bit rich to be potting 2 players (one of whom is a 4x B&F winner) and stating they were the reason you weren’t going to be a member anymore.. when you’re not actually a member. Say you’re angry, say you’re disappointed - fine. But don’t pretend they killed your membership.

Dees Down But Not Out
That doesn’t line up with the narrative that we need to sack the coach, all the assistants, everyone on the board and trade or delist 20 players so can’t be accurate! It obviously hasn’t gone to plan this year on a number of fronts, and Trac going out for an extended period or even the season makes it hard to see us challenging for a flag but I don’t think we’re dead yet. Max, May, TMac and Brown are the only ones pushing retirement. You’d think the first 2 can at least go one more year. The rest have plenty left, and we had 9 players 23yo or younger in the 22 on Monday. We were a full year younger on average than the pies. We can still play finals this year, and even if we don’t I reckon the window is still open next year. edit: I’d also add that the swans played in a GF in 2022, fell to 8th last year and are now favs for the flag. Lions were ~ a goal away from being premiers and are currently 13th. The consistent high level we’ve been at the past 3 years is unusual, and one blip of a year doesn’t mean it’s all over.

Time for a Change….Don’t wait another 2 years…
Average years in the job for the winning premiership coach since 2000 is 6 years. Some shorter ones, Scott and Longmire walked into flag ready teams, McRae probably got there ahead of schedule but the average is the average.. so we’d be looking at 6 years all going well (5.5 if you exclude Sheeds in 2000)

PREGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne
B: McVee May Rivers HB: Salem McDonald Lever C: Langdon Oliver Windsor HF: Pickett Fritsch Petty F: Chandler Van Rooyen Neal-Bullen Foll: Gawn Viney Sparrow I/C: Howes Turner Bowey Woewodin Sub K Brown In Lever, Woewodin, K Brown Out: Petracca, Billings, Laurie Billings & Laurie don’t get enough of it and don’t use it well enough to compensate for being small. If you’re a little tacker like Laurie you need to be a Bowey or Caleb Daniel level user and he isn’t. Billings is slightly bigger but doesn’t compete physically and doesn’t use it well enough at the moment. Potentially Howes or Turner out for Tomlinson if we need another bigger body but you wouldn’t think we do if Lever gets up.

The Controversial Discussion about the Knee that needs to be had
I think it’s inevitable that the knee gets taken out, maybe a while away but it’ll happen. At the moment it’s a legitimate action but there’s too much damage. My controversial take is that taking away the ability to use your hands to get on someone’s shoulders means the only way to get up is to hit them at speed with the knee which is more dangerous. Bring back the school yard hands on the shoulders speckie
