  1. You can see my answer here http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/37564-welcome-to-the-melbourne-football-club-ben-newton/?p=1027760
  2. No co-captain Grimes and again who gives Jamar ruck relief?
  3. Right now I've got 18 starters: Back: Jetta, Dunn, Garland Half-back: Grimes, TMac, Howe Mid: Vince, Tyson, Lumumba Half-Forward: Viney, Dawes, Watts Forward: Kent, Hogan, Garlett Followers: Jamar, Cross, N.Jones There has to be a 2nd ruck/fwd = Gawn, Pedersen or Fitzpatrick That leaves 3 spots for mids (including the sub) and Newton has plenty of competition: Salem, Toumpas, McKenzie, Michie, JKH, Riley, Bail, M.Jones, Pick 2/3 and I could be missing someone ... Frost doesn't squeeze in, yet.
  4. Just wonder if the Saints will take Petracca since they took Billings last year?
  5. 10 new players added last year on the list. 11 new players this year (subject to re-rookie) That's half the list.
  6. Picks 2 & 3 thread disappeared.
  7. I love reading this stuff from the likes of GNF and Qwerty30 but generally take it with a grain of salt because I hope no-one in the FD would leak recruiting info to the general public - it's too vital. However when roads start to point in the same direction maybe there is some fire where there's smoke. FWIW, I happened to bump into a bloke I know on the train last night who is very well connected at the club and I mentioned this post and the De Goey reference and he just smiled and said "you might think that, I couldn't possibly comment".
  8. We can agree to disagree - it's not just about the money it's about the AFL dream and Evans quite likely still holds onto it and was contracted by us to have one more year's shot at it. If we delist him it should be on full contract amount and we should offer to re-rookie him. If he doesn't want that he can tell us - "no thanks". Then he could take his chances in the ND and RD with another club and failing that end up choosing to go to VFL, SANFL, WAFL. I think that's the way to treat him with respect and show an example to the rest of our list. But then I am a old pinko
  9. A fair deal would be for us to pay him out in full and then rookie him - that gives him a $55k bonus on your figures for the heartache. There should be something in it for him.
  10. Surely we're not going to waste pick 83 that we got in the Garlett trade either?
  11. I think their first pick is 57 so 40 would've been handy.
  12. It seems we rate Newton > 40 > Tapscott. If we can't take 40 it probably means we overpaid for Frost but you can only trade the picks you have and I think we underpaid for Garlett. Both were probably 3rd rounders that we'd used on Stretch.
  13. Not upgrading Jetta is not an option IMO for the "iron clad guarantee" reasons discussed above. The possible options are to delist Trengove, McKenzie or Evans with the promise to re-rookie them, But there has to be something in it for them. There's definitely not more security of tenure so I think the only other thing MFC can offer is more money. We could offer them a big pay increase on this year's contract. I know a player can name a contract price in the ND but can they do the same in the RD? If they can then I suspect they'd have to put it on for both the ND and the RD and that would restrict their options to be picked up by another club in the ND - I think DFA is over so the only way they can get to another club is through the draft. If they can't name a price in the RD then the risk for those guys is that another club rookies them before our RD19 at the standard Rookie rate - we'd have to commit to picking them at RD2 to make it work. Not sure what the AFL would think about us throwing money around like that though. I'm not burned up like everyone else seems to be about passing on pick 40 when I weigh it against the cultural implications of enabling it to be used.
  14. I see ideas in here to manipulate Trengove or Jetta onto the Rookie list or delist contracted players McKenzie and Evans who worked their way up from the Rookie list just so we can take ND53! Ideas from people who know the price of everything but the value of nothing. Ideas I do not agree with.
  15. With GWS reportedly offering 4 and 7 to St.Kilda for 1 (and 21?) and the Saints turning it down, it's pretty clear they don't rate the top 4 players equally. I've never seen Wright play but the little I've read about him worries me. Ruckmen (or Ruckmen/Forwards) have to go hard. Spencer does - that's his main attribute. Great KPFs come in the top 5 of the draft (or F/S), but that doesn't mean all KPFs taken in the top 5 are great. Midfield remains our big weakness so if the Saints go for McCartin we could get two highly rated mids which would be great. I know we've all been burned by our drafting failures over the years, but it's an almost entirely new team in that area now, there's hope. And it's pretty likely we'll have a very early pick again next year.
  16. So much sooking from so many who have no idea what might have been really happening! Have some faith - maybe St.Kilda had a trade on the table for Frost that GWS was tempted by. The problem is we had 23 and they had 40 and 53 and that's all the currency there was. If Frost turns out to be a starting 22 KPD replacement for Frawley, we're laughing.
  17. There's still tomorrow to package Blease, Strauss and Tapscott for something amazing!
  18. Seems to me if Trengove was at Richmond with a similar history we'd be trying to trade him in Tyson-style. 3 for 12 + Trengove. Jimmy Bartel and Jordan Lewis seem to be coping with modern footy but it is likely that Jack is not that good or too limited by his foot. I'm sentimental about Trengove at MFC. It is impossible to argue against the move to the Tigers being better for him.
  19. No, I'd say pretty consistent level of integrity for a long time.
