  1. If the Hawks finish 5th again next year the Saints go back from 10 to 14 a year later that's -234 points. 23 + 36 is worth 1317. Minus 234 = 1083 = Pick 16 is their bonus - you have a different definition of "fantastic" from me

  3. Would Steele get a game in our midfield? I reckon he'd struggle. 23 & 36 woo-hoo!!! It's nice but not world beating. And it depends where Hawthorn finishes next year, if they make the eight then 10 is down-graded - they have to finish lower than 9th for this part to be a win.
  4. Saints trade way over-rated. Steele, Koby Stevens and Brown is Melksham, Bugg, Kennedy material to me. Those 3 players they picked up are not best 22 at a top 4 club. Their "pick coup" with Hawthorn is being over-rated too, they do have an extra 1st next year but they don't have one this year, it's a good deal but it's not earth-shattering. I'm looking forward to giving them a mother of a hiding next year.
  5. I think he should be in the frame. He was smashed in the VFL GF along with Spencer which looked bad and cooled expectations, but his overall rate of improvement last year was great. He has a lot of scope for physical development. We need to draft at least one ruckman.
  6. We have to make 3 senior list changes at the draft (can be selections or rookie upgrades) Off: Grimes, M.Jones, Terlich, Dunn (traded) On: Lewis, Hibberd, McKenna That gives us one vacancy so we need minimum 2 more off and Dawes and Newton are uncontracted so almost certain to go. Rookie list: Wagner (possible upgrade) Michie, White, Max King (all likely to go IMO) B list Rookies: Smith (possible upgrade), Maynard (new so retained), one vacancy
  7. b: Jetta OMac Hibberd hb: Hunt TMac Vince c: Stretch Lewis Salem hf: Petracca Hogan Kent f: Watts Weideman Garlett r: Gawn Jones Viney i: Tyson Oliver Brayshaw Harmes e: Frost Melksham Vandenberg
  8. Can you read? They didn't violate them.
  9. Lumumba's run is an attribute but he needs to work on his contested football if he's going to find a spot in our team. As DA pointed out above that's the biggest difference between HL and Hunt, Hunt is hard at the contest. I think as others have observed that HL can be an asset in a good team which we are becoming but he needs to go when it's his turn. I see him playing further up the ground on the wing if he makes it, the backline is looking pretty set. We are really crying out for someone like him to stand up - play like Isaac Smith does.
  10. Yes the point of the rule is to stop Academy clubs from downgrading early picks for bulk later picks with points - a loophole we exploited last year. I don't have a full audit on how GWS got all those picks, but I agree with you that it is very hard to see them having 11 list vacancies to be able to use that pick 60 in a bid What is does mean is that either way our pick 69 will come in a long way.
  11. Went to a draft information night the year we drafted Rohan Bail - his Qld Senior League highlights reel looked fantastic. Loved Rohan but the AFL is a big step up. Best of luck to Pat!
  12. The answer is 42 of course. Pat McKenna was #42 at GWS.
  13. It's complex Luke but I don't think all of your analysis is correct: Hawthorn did trade out 2017 1st and 2nd but I believe they hold Carlton's 2017 2nd so are able to count that just like we could count 2 1st rounders last year GWS may have all those picks but the new rule is they can only USE the number that match their list vacancies. Their total number of list vacancies isn't settled yet, just like ours isn't. To take it to it's extreme, in theory we hold 47, 69, 84, 102, 120, 138, 156, 174. Further confirmation that these late picks do actually exist is that pick 135 was traded for a player! In addition the rule only came in this year so any future picks they were already holding this year from last year's trading are exempt - I'm not sure if any are? If you trade future 1st you must hold future other rounds (see Hawthorn above). If you hold future 1st you can trade all other rounds Yeah the Geelong one is weird. In theory it's fine because they must use 2 in 4 years which means they have to use 1sts in 2017 and 2018 but they don't have a 2017 1st. How can the guarantee they'll be able to trade into next year's 1st round?
  14. Freo may take English at 7?
  15. To be completely fair I liked both those trades at the time.
  16. As I posted in the other thread, we effectively got Hibberd and Lewis for 29 which is a stellar result. Went in with 29, 48, 66, 84. Came out with 47, 69, 84. Dunn vs McKenna steak knives
  17. The video is not exactly flattering
  18. I think we have 47, 69. 84, 102 and our complete 2017 set intact. That's pretty good since we brought in Weidemann (effectively), Hibberd, Lewis, McKenna. With Dunn out We started with 29, 48, 66, 84, 102 - So we got Hibberd, Lewis and McKenna for 29 and Dunn
  19. Hawthorn's first pick is 88 - the pick from the Sam Mitchell deal so it was worthwhile after all!
  20. Hypothetical - if the O'Meara trade doesn't get done and Hawthorn plan to take him at 10 in the ND. If we still held our 1st at 8 would we take him with it? We'd have the period up to the draft to convince him to join us.
  21. It's not really as much as it seems: Tuohy + future Carlton's 2nd (25 this year) for Smedts + future Geelong 1st (16 this year)
  22. Agree. We might have our eye on someone like Hunt and have a fair idea of where the competition is - I think that's why we took him at 57 when we did. If so we will know whether 57 this year covers us or we need to upgrade. Dunn + 57 + 59 for 47 could be a win-win anyway if we're only looking to draft 1 and upgrade 2.
